Default Report Card for Dan Cake Bangladesh Pakistan ODI Series April 2015

Scorecard/report card for the Dan Cake Bangladesh Pakistan ODI Series

* Players had to play at least two matches to qualify for a grade. This rules out Abul Hassan. In any case, he would have gotten a D-.

Tamim Iqbal: A+
Great turnaround from the World Cup. Very impressive in all three matches. Though perhaps too cautious too early in the 3rd ODI, thus abandoning what worked for him in the first two matches.

Soumya Sarkar: B+
After getting out cheaply in the first two innings, he finally delivered perhaps the best innings of the entire series on the third. Continues to be a beast of a fielder, both in terms of efficiency and attitude.

Mahmadullah Riyad: C+
Abysmal performance with the bat. What happened to the technique shown at the world cup? 3 matches, 3 low scores, 3 balls to the wicket. Didn't seem to have an understanding where the stumps were. Was used as filler in bowling, so not enough material to judge on. At least be can be happy that he kept it reasonably tight in his few overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim: A+
Impeccable. Not much to say really. Staggering bat speed. Tamim might have been the man of the series, but he doesn't look quite as comfortable as one Mr. Mushfiqur Rahim. Solid keeping as well this series, a skill set he sometimes falters in.

Shakib Al Hassan: A -
Great bowling as usual, not other worldly. Helped out with the bat when he had a chance, however slim that may have been due to great top order batting. But it should be noted that his avg. Economy was almost par with our specialist spinner in the side in Sunny, and he just got one less wicket than him. Captained the team in the 1st ODI.

Shabbir Rahman: B+
Hard to judge, only got one batting and one bowling opportunity respectively. Played his limited role of whatever runs he could muster very quickly with the bat in the 1st ODI, bowled terribly when presented with the opportunity in the 3rd ODI. Is one of the better fielders in the side though, and he showed it throughout the series with his ground fielding. Had a spectacular run out in the 1st match.

Nasir Hossain: B+
Was used as the third wheel for spin options, and his bowling was a level below Shakib’s and Sunny’s. Was not a breakout series with the ball for him by any means, but did reasonably well. Faced one ball in the whole series, so can’t judge his batting. Was the best fielder for the side in the series, even better than the stellar Soumya. Fielding is a much overlooked reason for Bd’s whitewash.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza: B-
Once in a generation type of player, captained the team well in the 2nd and 3rd ODI which are the two he played. Had a horrible game with the ball on the 2nd ODI, but was fantastic on the 3rd ODI at a game where all pacers were struggling. Delivered when his team needed him.

Arafat Sunny: A-
Fine performance by Sunny. Held his own with Shakib as the side’s premier spin bowler. Highest wicket taker for Bd in this series with 6 wickets. And good economy rate, especially considering he was bowled his full quota in all three matches.

Taskin Ahmed: B-
Still has a long way to go, but has all the right intangibles which manifested themselves in game 1 and 2. Good fielding presence as well, all the next generation players in the field seem to have that extra spring or bounce in their steps.

Rubel Hossain: B-
Had an okay first game, was brilliant in game 2 and had his worst performance in game 3. The ups and downs in his game are very similar to Taskin. He needs to make his experience count more in order to be considered the premier pacer in the country.

I'll actually give Mash A-

His captaincy is the best we every had. It had big impact. Because he enabled everyone else to perform better, he deserves a better grade.

Sabbir A. Didn't give A+ because there is room for improvement. What a fielder we have.

Those two catches were outstanding! Especially the one in the 1st ODI was game changing. Gave us our first breakthrough.

It was close though, because Mash was so so so fine in that 3rd ODI. Always reminds me Shaun Pollock, knows he is still regarded the best pacer in the country, and trusts himself with the ball, sometimes a bit too much.

Couldn't give him an A- because of his bowling. Don't want to sugarcoat anything, it was pretty bad.
