Dr. Yunus purged from Grameen Bank
In a drama reminiscent of tin-pot oligarchies of old, a well-orchestrated plan to oust Dr Yunus from Grameen Back by Hasina and minions finally bore fruit today. The vendetta began when Dr Yunus had the temerity to start an alternate political stream - alternate to the non-democratic and dynastic political legacy that the people of Bangladesh are captive to. Shame on you Hasina - for being extra susceptible to the same blinkered view that the rest of the ignorant lot suffers from. Shame on you in advance Khaleda for you will surely take up for Dr Yunus solely for the political mileage she will get from this. Shame.

The "WEST (EU and US cohort) which so persistently called for return to democracy when CTG was doing such a good job can now see it in front of their eyes. I don't blame Hasina to be honest. She is what she always was, same with Khaleda.
The ones I blame are western countries and our very own native clowns went and voted in last election.

This is very sad. I still wonder why people would elect Hasina or Khaleda.

People voted in record numbers last election, if politicians can get away by committing such acts then why wouldn't they?

There is an age limitation for Managing Directors for Private banks. So it does not surprise me to see him being ousted. However what is surprising is why would they let it go on for so long? Did Prof yunus not know about this rule? It is also extremely obvious and shameful that BAL is doing it as a vendetta against Yunus so they keep looking for legal loopholes to get him entagled in. I dont understand why someone educated and knowledgeable like Yunus not know about this age barrier or knowing it did not do anything about it. Why was BB silent for the last 5 years. It is BB's job to implement this weird rule so if anything goverment should investigate the BB and see why it took them 5 yrs to realize an MD is over the age barrier !!!

Nope, the power to fire lies in the hands of the Board of Directors. It isn't uncommon to let go of the founder. Steve Jobs was fired from Apple when he was 30.

As per media reports, govt owns 25% of the share of the bank, while the borrowers own the rest. I believe that as per banking regulations bangladesh bank has to approve the managing directors, after he has been selected by the board of directors.
In this case, the board of directors has selected Yunus, but Grameen did not seek approval from Bangladesh Bank. I wonder why Grameen was so sloppy about this...
