We have been saying for quite some time that our players do not get to play much longer version of cricket. Thus, they cannot hone their test skills. Our Islam wrote a nice article in CI: Bangladesh doomed by paucity of first-class cricket.

Everybody agrees that we need more FC matches. Who will bell the cat?

While I agree with the notion that we need more FC matches and we need to be a more respectable team in Tests, I think the following is worth noting:

- Our players pointed to the lack of FC as a excuse for poor test performance (batting collapses). How do we explain the same collapses in ODI and T20? So the problem is not just FC but our cricket in general

- Given the current ICC structure and imbalance in fair schedules, we have little option but to take what is available to us. If thats a 5 match ODI series or a series with little or no warm up matches, that is reality

- We as fans (and the sentiment is obviously carried on in the media and selectors) pay little respect to NCL. We have our bias about certain players and use NCL to justify their performance or simply disregard NCL as irrelevant when it does not suit our argument

- We disrespect (or maybe respect too much and display cowardice) towards ZIM and top associates in the same manner teams such as IND, AUS, ENG do to us. Difference is that ZIM, IRE, NED are much closer in strength to us than we are to those top teams.

- The schedule for BCB needs to be set in stone. Figure out a calendar to include BPL, DPL (mandatory because withouth them you have no funding for FC cricket) and a meaningful FC league. Teams/players should be contracted and not changed every tournament and at the last minute.

- Players should be made to play the domestic league barring international or meaningful engagements (case by case basis for IPL, County or injuries)

- A good ball is a good ball, no matter what the format and a good shot is a good shot no matter what the format. Its about learning to bowl where you envision your ball to drop and turn/swing/pace and knowing which balls to go after or leave as a batsment based on the match situation. This is where I feel we have fallen behind by putting too much emphasis on meaning less stats when taking match situation into account.

বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেট ও ক্রিকেটারদের মানসিক দুর্বলতা




বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট দলের টেস্ট স্ট্যাটাস পাওয়ার অনেকদিন পার হয়ে গেলো। ২০০০ থেকে ২০১১, কম সময় নয় ক্রিকেটে উন্নতির জন্য। অথচ টেস্টে সাফল্য বলতে দুর্বল জিম্বাবুয়েই আর ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের দ্বিতীয় সারির দলের বিরুদ্ধে সিরিজ জয়। ২০০০ সালের অভিষেক টেস্টের প্রথম ইনিংসে ৪০০ রান করে যে সম্ভাবনার ঝলক দেখা দিয়েছিলো, শুরুর সেই ঝলক সামান্য আলোক রেখাই হয়ে থাকলো, কেবল কিছু ব্যক্তিগত নৈপুন্যকে ঘিরে। আশরাফুলের ক্রিকেট ক্রমহ্রাসমান নৈপুন্য যেন বাংলাদেশ দলের সামগ্রিক প্রতীক হয়ে আছে এখন পর্যন্ত। আর বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট দলের জন্য ব্যক্তিগত ধারবাহিক সাফল্যের প্রতীক তো একমাত্র সাকিব। জিম্বাবুয়েইয়ের কাছে সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে একদিনের এবং টেস্ট ম্যাচ সিরিজ পরাজয়সহ ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ আর পাকিস্তানের কাছে সহজ়ভাবে হার মানার প্রেক্ষাপটে আমাদের খেলো্যাড়দের মানসিক দুর্বলতার বিষয়টি এখন সবচাইতে বেশি সমালোচিত, যদিও সবাই এক বাক্যে স্বীকার করে নিচ্ছেন যে, আমাদের প্রতিভার অভাব নেই। তবে প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে এই দুর্বলতা আমাদের পিছু ছাড়ছে না কেন এখনো? টেস্ট স্ট্যাটাস পাওয়ার এতোদিন পরেও কেনইবা আমাদের খেলোয়াড়েরা তাদের মানসিক শক্তিকে আরো শক্তিশলী করতে পারছে না? স্বনামধন্য কোচদের অধীনে থাকার পরও, এখনো আমরা কেন দল হিসেবে আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যায়ে তলানীতে পড়ে আছি?

এই প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর খোঁজ়ার জন্য রকেট-বিজ্ঞানের শরণাপন্ন হওয়ার প্রয়োজন নেই। বস্তুতঃ আমাদের ঘরো‌য়া ক্রিকেটের দুর্বল কাঠামোই যে আমাদের খেলো্যাড়দের মানসিকভাবে দুর্বল করেছে সেটা অস্বীকার করার কোনো উপায় নেই। তার উপর আমাদের কোনো কোনো সংবাদ-মাধ্যমের ক্রিকেটের অধারাবাহিক সাফল্য্ আর সমর্থকদের আবেগকে পুঁজি করে ব্যবসা করার প্রবনতা আমাদের ক্রিকেটের কম ক্ষতি করছেনা। এতে একজন একটা ইনিংস ভালো খেললে কিংবা বাংলাদেশ দল বিচ্ছিন্ন একটা কিংবা দুটা জয় পেলে অযাচিত প্রশংসা আর পু্রষ্কারের বন্যা শুরু হয়, তাতে আমাদের খেলোয়াড়দের অনেকে নিজেদেরকে দুর্বলতা এবং অদক্ষতার কথা ভূ্লে গিয়ে নিজেদের বিশ্ব সেরা ভাবতে শুরু করে। আর সংগঠকরাও তাদের ভবিষ্যত কর্ম-পরিকল্পনাকে গুরুত্ব না দিয়ে সাময়িক আর বিচ্ছিন্ন সাফল্যতে গা ভাসিয়ে দেন। অন্যদিকে ক্রিকেটের মানো্ন্নয়নের দুটি মূল স্তম্ভ যেমনঃ প্রথম শ্রেণীর প্রতিযোগিতা আর স্কুল পর্যায়ের ক্রিকেট অবহেলিতও থেকে যায় শেষ পর্যন্ত। কাজের কাজ আর কিছুই হয়না বছরের পর বছর।


বিশ্ব চ্যাম্পিয়ন ভারতের যে আজকের উন্নতি সেটা কিন্ত তাদের স্কুল পর্যায়ের এবং প্রথম শ্রেণীর ক্রিকেটের শক্তিশালী কাঠামোর কারনেই। শ্রীলংকা কিংবা অস্ট্রেলিয়াও এক্ষেত্রে ব্যতিক্রম নয়। ক্রিকেট সংগঠকরা স্কুল ক্রিকেটকে ভারতের জন্য সত্যিকারের সূতিকাগারে পরিণত করেছেন। আজকের টেন্ডুলকার, রাহুল দ্রাবিড়, সেওয়াগ- এরা সবাই এই স্কুল ক্রিকেটেরই চূড়ান্ত ফসল। টেন্ডুলকারের পুত্র আর্জুনের নামটিও আজকাল শোনা যাচ্ছে, এই স্কুল ক্রিকেটেরই সুবাদে। শুধু টি-২০ আর একদিনের ক্রিকেটে নিয়ে এই স্কুল ক্রিকেটের সংগঠকরা তৃপ্ত নন। স্কুল পর্যায়ের এই ক্রিকেট ক্ষুদে খেলোয়াড়দের দীর্ঘ পরিসরের ম্যাচ খেলার অভ্যাস তৈরিতে সাহায্য করে। ফলে এই স্কুল-ক্রিকেটাররা যখন প্রথম শ্রেণীর ক্রিকেট খেলতে শুরু করে তখন তাদের মানসিক প্রস্তুতিটা অনেক সুদৃঢ় থাকে। তাই পরবর্তী সময়ে তাদেরকে ভারতের প্রথম শ্রেণীর প্রতিযোগিতায় অনেক বড় বড় ব্যক্তিগত স্কোর করতে দেখা যায়। ক্রিক ইনফো ডট কম থেকে সংগৃহীত তথ্যানুযায়ী, ২০১১-২০১২ সালের ভারতের রঞ্জি ট্রফিতে এখন পর্যন্ত ৩৫টি শতক, ১৫টি দ্বিশতক, আর ১টি ত্রিশতকের ব্যক্তিগত নৈপুন্যের স্বাক্ষর রয়েছে। কোনো ইনিংসে ৫০০ এবং তার চাইতে বেশি রানের দলীয় স্কোরের সংখ্যা এখন পর্যন্ত ২১টি। আর আমাদের ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটের অবস্থা ঠিক উল্টো। দায়-সারা গোছের একদিনের প্রতিযোগিতা দিয়ে শুরু হয়, আমাদের দেশের স্কুল পর্যায়ের খেলোয়াড়দের ক্রিকেট-জ়ীবন। আর তারপর আমাদের ‘পিকনিক-জাতীয়’ প্রথম শ্রেণীর ক্রিকেটেও তাদের ব্যক্তিগত ওরকম নৈপুন্য দেখা যায়না। এ বছর আমাদের জাতীয় লীগে দ্বিশতক হয়েছে মাত্র একটি, যদিও শতকের সংখ্যা এ পর্যন্ত ২৯টি। কোনো ইনিংসে ৫০০ রান বা তার চাইতে বেশি দলীয় রানের সংখ্যা মাত্র ২টি। তার মানে হলো, ভারতের ব্যাটসম্যানরা দীর্ঘ সময়ে উইকেটে টিকে থাকার ক্ষেত্রে শারীরিক এবং মানসিকভাবে অনেক বেশী দক্ষ এবং তাই ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটের দলীয় নৈপুন্যও, আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যায়ে ভালো করার জন্য তাদেরকে অনেকখানি প্রস্তুত করে দেয়।



উপরন্ত ভারতের খেলোয়াড়েরা ঘরোয়া পর্যায়ে আমাদের খেলোয়াড়দের চাইতে সংখ্যায় অনেক অনেক বেশি প্রথম শ্রেণীর ম্যাচ খেলে থাকে। রঞ্জি ট্রফি, দিলীপ ট্রফি, ইরানী ট্রফিসহ প্রতি ক্রিকেট মৌসুমে কমপক্ষে দশটি ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেট প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করে থাকে ভারতের বিসিসিআই। ২০০৮/০৯ সালে প্রথম শ্রেণীর খেলা শুরু করা ভারতের বোলার উমেশ যাদব এই পর্যন্ত ২৫টি ম্যাচে অংশগ্রহণ করেছে। অন্যদিকে আমাদের তামিম ইকবাল ২০০৪/০৫ এ প্রথম শ্রেণীর খেলা শুরু করে, ২০১১/১২ সাল পর্যন্ত মাত্র ৪৫টি ম্যাচ খেলেছে। গড় করলে প্রতি মৌসুমে তার ম্যাচের সংখ্যা দাড়ায় ৪ এর কাছাকাছি। আর উমেষের জন্য এই সংখ্যা ১২ কিংবা তার চাইতে বেশি হবে। এতো কম দীর্ঘ পরিসরের ম্যাচ খেলার পরও তামিম কিংবা সাকিব যে এখনো নৈপুন্যের স্বাক্ষর রেখে যাচ্ছে, তা প্রতিভা ছাড়া অন্য কিছু নয়। তবে সবাই তো আর সাকিব কিংবা তামিম হতে পারবে তা নয়। তাই দু’একজনের ব্যক্তিগত নৈপুন্য বাংলাদেশের দলীয় নৈপুন্যের ক্ষেত্রে ওভাবে কোন প্রভাব ফেলতে পারছেনা। ফলে টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে ২০০০ সালে আমরা যেখানে ছিলাম, সেখান থেকে আমাদের অগ্রগতি ২০১১ সালেও খুব বেশি হয়নি।


অথচ আমাদের খেলোয়াড়দের সব রকম মান কীভাবে বাড়বে সেটা নিয়ে আমাদের ক্রিকেট সংগঠকরা খুব একটা ভাবছে বলে মনে হয়না। আমাদের ক্রিকেট কর্মকর্তারা অনেক বেশি ব্যস্ত টি-২০ এর বিপিএল টুর্নামেন্ট, আইসিসির পদ দখল আর কিছু ব্যক্তিগত সাফল্য নিয়ে । শুধু ক্যাপ্টেন পরিবর্তন, কোচ পরিবর্তনসহ কিছু সাময়িক পদক্ষেপের মাধ্যমেই আমাদের অতি ব্যস্ত ক্রিকেটকর্তারা দেশের ক্রিকেটের উন্নতি ঘটাতে চাইছেন। তার স্কুল এবং প্রথম শ্রেণীর ক্রিকেটের অবকাঠামোতে কোনো মৌলিক পরিবর্তন না এনে শুধুমাত্র বয়সভিত্তিক দল তৈরি করে, আর ঘরোয়া ক্লাব পর্যায়ে একদিনের এবং টি-২০ ক্রিকেট আয়োজন করে আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে সাফল্যের সুতা তারা বুনতে চান। কিন্ত দীর্ঘ মেয়াদী ক্রিকেটের ব্যাপারে বিসিবির দ্রুত পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া আর দী্র্ঘ মেয়াদী পরিকল্পনা ছাড়া বিশ্ব-ক্রিকেটে আমাদের সামনে আগানো সম্ভব নয়। এগুলোকে গুরুত্ব না দিলে আমাদের ক্রিকেটারদের মানসিক দুর্বলতাও দূর হবেনা, মানও বাড়বেনা কোনোভাবে। এতে লজ্জার ঘানি বাংলাদেশ নামের রাষ্ট্রটিকে টেনে বেড়াতে হবে নিয়মিত, আর আমাদের ক্রিকেট নিয়ে ভিনদেশী ধারাভাষ্যকারদের কটু কথা সহ্য করে যেতে হবে, কিছু না শোনার ভান করে!
