Default 250 Million/5 years for Beckham!

He's going play for MLS, but 250 Million for 5 years he's not worth 50 million per year. i don't care if he's the best dead ball player in the world.

The most recognized player on the planet -- fashion icon, tabloid fixture, marketing giant and husband of a former Spice Girl -- is taking his game and fame to Tinseltown, and he's going to be earning an estimated $250 million for the five years of his contract.

I bet Galazy won't make the playoffs next season and he will be transfered/shipped back to England.

I agree it's a lot of money, and even though he's not the star player he used to be Beckham is still an icon of pop culture. Beside he's more famed as a celebrity than he's a footballer, and then there's Posh. That alone can attract even those who'd otherwise never pay attention to a "soccer" game.

Don't forget, the owner of MLS is one of the richest in the world. This is an opportunity for them to promote and control the soccer monopoly in the US, where games like baseball and b-ball generate absurd amount of money. If "soccer" is established as a pop sport, it will also generate more money in the long run.

US media thinks even the fact that Becks can speak Spanish will help attract America's hispanics population, who happens to be largest minority and traditionally follow "soccer".

Juan Francisco Palencia , a former Mexican national team forward who plays for Chivas USA, is the highest-paid player in MLS this year with total compensation of $1.36 million -- more than $400,000 ahead of the No. 2 player on the list, Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan .

LA pays him 9 million a year and the endorsments take care of the rest, I know Nike has a deal with Lebron James that if he Signs with the Knicks he'll get $250 million from Nike along the $25/5 year deal with the knicks.

looks like Ronaldo is gonna follow Becks, from Madrid ----> New York? Red Bulls been after him for 2 years and they offered him 10 yrs/120 million all guaranteed Money (unlike Becks contract) he turned it down and now New York looks it has it's star player.

yah..why not bring all the soccer stars to MLS ? Afterall, every North American major league sport is a money-making machine... so bring on those guys, and nothing to worry about the EPL or the other Eurupean leagues... their 3rd division players are better than the national team players over here anyways, rite ?

Yah rite!
