They did the right thing. They had a partnership going that was badly needed. The rain just played a spoil sport.

No, I meant full 50 overs.

I'm no expert in D/L method as it doesn't follow a certain formula. There is a table for "resource percentage remaining" under D/L method. The table even specifies ball-by-ball interruption. It only counts overs remaining and wickets lost.

In today's case,

BAN scored 157 in 31.1 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Rain interrupted the 1st innings and IRE will chase a revised target of possibly curtailed over.

Premature termination of BAN's inning has deprived them of 43.2% resource remaining. And they have 100 - 43.2 = 56.8% resource available.

If umpires cut the available overs down to 30 for IRE, they will have 75.1% resource available. That's a difference of 75.1 - 56.8 = 18.3%. Which means IRE will have to score 18.3% more run in 30 overs, equivalent to 186 runs (30 overs).

So simple, duh!

[just kidding]

Cricketeurope reporting that the cut off time is 6;10. So still 2 hours for a twenty over game.

158 in 20 if true we'll still lose.

158 will be too much in this pitch for them. Mind you there will be only 4 overs of powerplay not 6. Plus, first 20 overs is the tougtest in this pitch. It will be tougher after rain. Irish dont have many powerhitters. Only stirling and kevin

Donal is not optimistic of a result.

He's our main man...a rain god.

I think Balbirne and Niall obrien can hit it if that's what is needed. Go for the win.

Rain is now only a light drizzle. Heavy stuff stopped a while ago. Should stop totally within the hour according to radar

So, sounds like we'll get a game after all. I think this was all part of a cunning Irish plan. Conspiracy!!!

OK, but how is the drainage at the ground? Will there be too much delay before the game starts once the rain stops completely?

Funnily enough Ireland has been very sunny the past two weeks, so the ground itself is likely to be dry and will hopefully soak up most of the moisture. The groundsman has been asked and reckons it'll take 45 minutes to get the ground fit for play again. So if the rain stops by 535 Irish time it leaves sufficient time for drying and resumption.

Touch and go if we get any more play at all tbh, and even if it does resume one more stoppage ends the match

I personally feel they should just get it underway asap. Light drizzle won't do too much damage. Ofcourse need to let it dry for some time tho

It's a hazard for players to play when there's persistent drizzle.

Do we lose ranking points if it gets washed out

Me too.

I'll have to say kudos to those hardworking groundsmen/women. Call the match off already.

There are no lights at the ground.
