Default The Official Players' Report Card for this series

The Official Players’ Report Card for this series.

*For players who played 2 full matches or more. Abul Hassan not included, as he became injured in the 2nd match.

Tamim Iqbal : C-
After a first good match where he was his usual self, he completely went missing for the rest of the series. Even looked shaky in his 30 odd in the 2nd match. Got out exactly the same way in the last two matches. Pretty pathetic for someone dubbed as “world class” by some fans. However he was one of the better fielders throughout the series and his performance included one spectacular catch. Desperately needs more competition for that starting spot.

Anamul Haque : B-
Was pure class in the first 3 matches. Even when he didn’t score a century, his shot making and temperament reflected that of an opener. Was inexplicably atrocious in his last two matches. His grade was the hardest one to give, as at this point the fans don’t know which Anamul will show up next. Dr. Jekyll or Mr Hyde?

Naeem Islam: F
Had the worst shot selection amongst all the batsmen. Because he was so poor, the first match can be best described as an aberration. Was dropped for the last match, and justifiably so.

Mushfiqur Rahim: B+
Takes a lot of criticism regularly, especially from me. But how has he been a bad captain in this series, except for that one forgettable Rubel malfunction? Rotated his bowlers well, trusted Mominul with the ball, and constantly gave support to the bowlers with his tireless vocals behind the wickets. And calmed a few nerves down with his bat, even if temporarily, in more than one occasion. What more can be asked from a captain? If rotating the strike was so easy, something he does really well, all batsmen would constantly get run a ball centuries. My biggest complain of him is that he is not the best wicket keeper we have, and has dropped a few catches in this series, though pretty difficult chances. And that brings him down to a B+.

Mahmadullah Riyad: A-
Didn’t demonstrate any weakness at all throughout the series. Bowled well, batted well, and yes even fielded well except for the lone dropped catch. A machine like performance from the vice captain. Nothing extraordinary, but nothing ordinary in the same time. And sometimes that’s all a team requires to pull out victories.

Elias Sunny: F
Almost cost us the series in the end! Enough said. Bowled well enough in the 4th ODI, albeit two dropped catches of his own bowling. But did I mention he almost cost us the series?

Shohag Gazi:A+
Should have been the man of the series instead of Mushfiqur Rahim in my humble opinion. Was Mr. Consistent of the series, not just from the Bd team but the WI team as well. Bowled well in every match, and when he wasn’t getting wickets, he was busy choking the opposition. Not just that, but also he has this assured self -confidence about him, bowling the same ball even after being hit for a 4. He knows he’s good. By the way, out of all the tail-enders, his batting technique seems to be the most solid.

Abdur Razzak:A-
Very good bowling performance indeed. Was overshadowed by Shohag who had a lower economical rate for all matches except one, but finished with the same no. of wickets as him. It can be said that Razzak provided the perfect support to Shohag, as they hunted in pairs. WI are glad to see the back of these two.

Mominul Haque:C-
Looked good in the 2nd ODI, after that completely went missing. Even in the last match, got lucky twice, so his 20 odd runs mean little. Batting lower down the order, had a few golden opportunities to cement his place in the team, but failed. However, from what we have seen he could turn out to be a good bowler. Turns the ball well, and provided that breakthrough with his bowling in the series decider. And with that last bit, he just about manages a C-.

Nasir Hossain: C-
Whatever happened to this consistent lad’s batting in this series? Didn’t look like himself at all, too nervous at times. However, when the moment mattered, he delivered in the last match with a slow but necessary knock. Had some great dives in the field, and continues to be Bd’s best fielder. However the grade is for the high expectation the fans have for him.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza: B-
Bowled well enough, swinging the ball with intent, and the fact that he still plays for the team is a miracle by itself. Lion’s heart really. However had one of the worst fielding performances in the team, dropping two catches and displaying some lazy ground fielding.

We would know better had he played one more match, hence qualifying for the grading. But yeah, 4 maidens is outrageous in an ODI! That alone would get him a A.

Fair point,fair point.
I thought Naeem was very lucky with his bowling. Basically the fear Shohag and Razzak instilled in the Islanders made them respect Naeem more than they should have.

You're forgetting that Mashrafe score a quick 18* with a strike rate of 300.

Kind of harsh on Monimul, I'd say C+ for his breakthroughs/performance with the ball, and an amazing anchoring role today in such situation, he also fielded well.

An amazing anchoring role which he almost threw away twice? He was lucky, both you and I know it. You have to call it as it is. Against a strong fielding side like SA, he would be toast.

^ good question!

Naeem an F? He got Pollard's wicket for crying out loud. Also, his celebration gets a tiny acknowledgement.

Tamim - D (that one fifty saved him from failing)
Anamul - B+ (needs to work on his footwork, shot selection, and technique but otherwise awesome...a more experienced player would have earned a mere B for the same performance)
Naeem - D- (that one fifty saved him from failing...should be dropped for good)
Mushy - A (didn't make any really big scores, although 79 is not bad but he played a captain's series)
Riyad - A+ (batted perfectly, fought, fielded, and bowled fairly well too)
Nasir - B- (Mr Cool turned it on when it really matter and proved he's an anti-choker)
Mominul - C+ (got the plus because of his knock in the final helped steady the ship...has potential but needs work like Anamul)
Gazi - A+ (did everything you could ask for and on debut too)
Razzak - A (unsung hero...quietly did his job)
Mashrafee - B (did well, but nothing spectacular...got rid of Gayle cheaply twice)
Rubel - D
Abul - C
Shafiul - A+ (really bowled superbly when it mattered most on comeback)
Sunny - C

1. Tamim: D overall.
2. Bijoy: B overall. The maiden 100 prevented a C+.
3. Nayeem: D- overall.
4. Omi: F overall.
5. Mit'hu: B+ overall. Clueless captaincy and lack of conversion prevented an A.
6. Riyad: A overall.
7. Shourobh: C overall. The fact that he's a debutante prevented a D+.
8. Koushik: A overall.
9. Shohag: A+ overall.
11. Shuhash: A overall.
12. RBX: D overall.
13. Sunny: C+ overall.
14. Rex: A overall.
15. Raju: Not Observed.

There should be no D. D is a fail. It's either A, B, C or F. Perhaps an I for Incomplete (Abul).
