Default Abahani\'s foreign booter ‘refused visa’ in Kolkata

From independent:

Abahani Limited officials complained on Wednesday that the Bangladesh High Commission in Kolkata did not issue visa to a foreign footballer for the club.

Abahani football team manager and former national captain Monem Munna told newsmen that a Ghanaian defender, Yaro Osomanu, was refused by the High Commission's visa section which returned his passport back on Tuesday.

Munna, who went to Bangalore for his treatment and on way back had talks with the Ghanaian player, informed that he took the player to the High Commission and talked with First Secretary Abul Hashem at the Kolkata mission.

After filling a form, Munna was told to wait for 18 days for granting of a visa.

When Munna told the First Secretary about contacting the Sports Ministry in this regard, the High Commission official allegedly misbehaved with him.

Munna returned to Dhaka on Monday and the Ghanaian later called him to inform that his passport was given back when he went to the mission.

Abahani director and football secretary Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu, who is also the assistant general secretary, told that even his request to the First Secretary did not have any effect.

"We sent a letter to him from the BFF but the mission did not respond. It is worrying. We now have to pay for his accommodation and food in Kolkata," he added.

"We are asking the BFF to step in and we will wait for an action from the country's football authority," former national winger Chunnu said.

Munna threatened that if it continues Abahani will have to boycott this season.

It was learnt that the First Secretary had told him that Ghanaians are not permitted to visit Bangladesh.

But Charles Ghansah and Opsuhene Kennedy, who played for Abahani for long, are still in Dhaka. Ghansah is with Muktijoddha Sangsad and Kennedy played for second division side Dipali Juba Sangha last year.

Some Abahani fans complained that a certain quarter has been deliberately doing this to defy Abahani from building a strong team.

Allegedly, Indian hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay was not issued visa by the Delhi office of the Bangladesh High Commission a couple of months ago. Abahani confirmed the Indian super star to play for their crucial league match against Mohammedan Sporting Club but did not get his services for the step-motherly conduct of the High Commission.

Muktijodhdha team has polluted the BD sports big time. We never has these nasty politics when it was Abahoni vs Mohammedan.
