zidane is nothing but a over-achiever, at least in this world cup.
He certainly doesnt not deserve the golden ball, no way.
He played crap at first two group games, didnt play at all in the third game, was allright in the 2nd round, had a good game against Brazil in the QF, per average perfomance on semis and finals...

n he got a golden ball for that ??
Should hv gone to either Canavarro, Pirlo or Buffon.

this is shocking..

I think they do not consider final. But if they consider final, then Buffon should be. Even the first case is true, they should have taken it away from Zidane for his disgraceful act in Final.
This is indeed shocking, for the first time in this WC I agree with you.

Well. let me clarify, it was decided by vote.

France captain Zidane polled 2,012 points in the vote by journalists .
He has beaten Italians Fabio Cannavaro (1,977 points) and Andrea Pirlo (715 points) in the ballot.

Legendary player,my foot.To me he is an OverRated player.
Ok even if they didn't consider the Finals and that Famous head butt,he surely doesn't
deserve the award. In my list it is Buffon or Cannavaro, with Buffon edging slightly.Take out the penalty shots and no opposition scored a single goal past him, none in this WorldCup.Don't care what the journalists vote.

I am sure the voting happened before the final... they should wait till the final is over before voting on who is the best player of the tournament... Zidane didn't deserve it for sure... Buffon is the man

According to FIFA, voting happened during the final match.

Nice one sadi..

Zidane is a great footballer no doubt about that but he will go down in history as a legend who most likely ruined his reputation by that disgraceful thing he did.. and I wonder if the young generation of footballers will look at him as an icon or someone to frown upon.

As for the golden ball award, I don't think he deserved it. It should have been Cannavaro..

i was actually pretty shocked when he did that...but all the same, i think people will still acknowledge his contribution to french soccer, and not just remember him for this incident.
