Default Ponting questions teams like US and BD in Champions Trophy

Quote:
Ricky Ponting has questioned the presence of weaker teams in premier events, and said that they would benefit from playing competition of similar strength, instead of top-ranking teams. The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting as saying, "I'm not really sure on these sort of teams, the US and Bangladesh, and those sorts of sides."

"Those sort of sides would be better served playing against opposition that are of a similar standard. I don't know how they learn a lot from getting belted all over the place and then getting bowled out for nothing," Ponting said to Fox Sports. "I don't understand that. I guess the players in those sides are the best judges of that. But if you sat back and watched, you'd find it pretty hard for them to find too many positives."

Bangladesh is one of the weaker teams!!!!! :duh: I think Ponting must joking with the repoters or he was drunk at that moment. I think first reason is true.
I think Bangladesh is among the 10/11 toppest cricket team in the World.

I really do wonder about these crapinfo articles. I can't find where Ponting made that statement on the online version of the SMH article. Perhaps it is in the printed version? Can any Sydney-siders confirm?

I think the problem is that teams like BD, Kenya and Zimb are in a league of their own. They are too good against teams like Ireland, Holland etc, but not quite up to the level of Australia, India, SA etc.

The presence of the US, who lost by 210 runs to New Zealand on Friday, has not impressed Australian captain Ricky Ponting. "I'm not really sure on these sort of teams - the US and Bangladesh, and those sorts of sides," he said. "I'm not sure that them playing against the best teams in the world right at the moment is the best thing for their cricket ... I don't know how they learn a lot from getting belted all over the place and then getting bowled out for nothing."
