Indian Businessman, Vijay Mallya bought CPL Franchise for US $100
"CMC-Indian businessman Vijay Mallya says he has paid only $100.00 for the Barbados Tridents, a franchise in the Caribbean Premier T20 tournament. "
Shakib played for this franchise in its inaugural year.
This is one of the oddest deals made in cricket history.
Quote:
He bought the CPL team in February just before stepping down as chairman of United Spirits and subsequently also lost control over IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“By buying the team, me and the other shareholders assumed the obligation to participate in the tournament,” said Mallya.
“Now participation in CPL cost money. So I went to the Barbados government saying I need your support. I met the Prime Minister and the government agreed to support but I paid $100 only to buy the team”.

This could be very real. A company that makes $2M running cost per year (without any guaranteed return) needs an owner who can cover for that $2 million. That's what was exactly in the deal. That's how loss-making entities are sold.

Yeah, paid a lot more than $100. He'll be covering debts and losses I'm sure. And is banking on being able to turn it into a profitable venture.

Have you heard of Cayman Islands? Another reason people like Vijay Mallya goes there. I hope his fate is not like one Mr. Stanford now warming in US prison

At $100 sale price, now even I can own 50% of a franchise. Where do I buy it?

$100 is not worth following. 100 Million then they would be interested.

Dear Mufi, I'll borrow you a mighty Dollar. Then WE can be the majority stake holder.
