Virat Kohli becomes the first player to win ODI, test and player of the year award in single year
Virat Kohli has become the first player in history to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year, the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and the ICC ODI Player of the Year awards following an extraordinary 2018.Not only is Kohli the first player to win these three major ICC awards together but he has also been named the captain of the ICC Test and ODI teams of the year for a fabulous run in international cricket.
Kohli scored 1,322 runs at an average of 55.08 in 13 Tests with five hundreds during the calendar year while in 14 ODIs he amassed 1202 runs at an astonishing average of 133.55 with six centuries. He also scored 211 runs in 10 T20Is.
The 30-year-old from Delhi, who first came into limelight when he led India to victory at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia in 2008, finished the year as the top-ranked batsman in Tests and ODIs. The highest scorer in both forms of the game in 2018, he was one of only two batsmen to score more than 1,000 runs in Tests and only among three to do so in ODI cricket.
Also rishabh Pant bags icc emerging player of the year award.

Meh.
Win the world cup,
World T20. Great player. But win one of these as captain.
It’s like Messi great but not won anything major for argentina. Whereas Ronaldo has which makes Ronaldo even better!

Strange selections by ICC. No players from WIndies, Zimbabwe, Srilanka or Bangladesh in test. No players from South Africa, Australia, WIndies, Srilanka, Pakistan or Zimbabwe in ODIs.

Kohli is certainly to be one of the finest in the world. Love the way he bats and his aggression in the field is remarkable. Having said that, I think the quality of international bowlers have lapsed a bit. SRT had to face guys like Wasim, Waqar, McGrath, Lee, Muralitharan, Saqlain, Warne, Allan Donald, Pollock etc. Dont see any bowler nowadays worth mentioning next to those champion bowlers SRT had faced.

Imagine if Kohli and Tendulkar played in the same era...Sachin would probably be in Kohli's shadow.

The modern game is a batsmen's game.
Would have loved to see more of Steyn v Kohli.
And Kohli v the greatest bowler today (He is in the ODI team of the year).

true but I still think even if Kohli faced Wasim/Waqar/Mcgrath, he would do equally well. It's a hypothesis for sure but he has shown tremendous skills, technique, temperament, and above all ability to chase down any totals.
Kohli is clutch. Without a doubt, he is the best player of this generation. Smith was close but he is banned now.

A guy named Rahul Dravid was in Tendulkar's shadow. And Rahul is one of the most if not the most technically sound batsman ever played cricket.
@Mufi, it is a question where there will be no right or wrong answer. Just the way we can debate on who is the greatest football player of all time but cant actually say who is the best with certainty. Tendulkar and Kohli have played in different era and faced different bowlers. So cant really say who is the best. But I think Kohli will break SRT's record of most runs

The real gem out of all this:
After one TREMENDOUS baby sitting series, Pant have creamed the pants of ICC selectors debuting in AUGUST 2018 and by December 2018...
He was....
The emerging player of the year AND in the WORLDDDDD test XI
wow, even a baby takes 9 months to create magic.
The baby sitter did it in 1/3 of that time

Agreed. Don't forget Ambrose and Walsh.
However it is unfair to write off Kohli because bowlers of that Calibre isnt around. Kohli can only perform in the environment he is given and that is why the best way to compare is not compare across generation (SRT vs Koh) but rather SRT vs his peers, and Kohli vs his peers. This makes the bowling side of things irrelevant. If the bowling is weaker now, it applies to all batsman alongside Kohli.
