The main point is that it was too defensive and a conservative idea to concentrate only on the batting after spending more than seven years in the Test fold.

Without any doubt, Jamie Siddons's prime concern is with his brittle batting but he should understand that the improved batting from his top-order batsmen is the only solution of the paramount headache.

Former chief selector Faruque Ahmed also branded it as a negative idea to field three specialist bowlers in a Test match.

"I can remember that during my tenure I had to face the question a few times when we played five specialist bowlers. The question was why we always went for four bowlers and interestingly now the question raised is why three bowlers," said the former national skipper smilingly.

"Undoubtedly we played a good Test match in Mirpur against South Africa and Shahadat (Hossain) bowled brilliantly apart from Mohammad Rafique's spin. But I must say it's a negative idea to play three specialist bowlers. You can do it in one-day matches sometimes, but not in Test.

"If you go with three bowlers it means you start the match with a negative frame of mind. I don't think we are in such a stage to think like that and I firmly believe that it will always take you to the back foot," he explained.

The incumbent chief selector Rafiqul Alam however dismissed the opinion that they played the match with three bowlers as he considered Shakib Al Hasan as a specialist option.

"Definitely he (Shakib) is a specialist left-arm spinner, so you can't say that we played with three specialist bowlers. The unfortunate things was that Shakib could not give his hundred per cent because he suffered a slight injury in his spin finger in the early stages of the match" Rafiq defended.

"And one should understand that we have to emphasise on our batting first. Just think that the result could have been worse had Aftab (Ahmed) and Shakib not scored some runs. And what's wrong in playing four bowlers when a team like India can practice it," he added.

But whatever the explanation of Rafiq, we should let the Tigers grow up rather than hold them back.
Daily Star

This Cheap selector is really funny. He doesn't know what he's talking about. He's comparing us with India? Sakib a specialist spinner? Since when? Since he took over from Faruq? Damn bilaimama.. you suck.

Our chief selector seems to lack sense of talking and obviously have no knowledge of about selection process. Our cricket will never be able to stand own its own as long as we have these kinda people involved in our cricket.

Since when did Sakib become a Test bowler? by taking 2 wickets in his career? He is the one who said Spinner Rafique is 45 years old to Siddons and we didnt have other young wicketkeepers? He thought Nazmul was a great bowler for New Zealand ? So, soon he will come up with an idea of not having any bowlers for our test squad, all 11 batsman because we need all men to bat!!

This is probably from a Hindi movie plot,, where Rafique is not actually Rafique but plastic surgery kora "Ashoka De Silva"

There are certain positives to be taken from the Test 1, and better application in the field can definitely translate to historical success in Test 2. Yes, we can be as practical as we want (and the sanest ones will continue to do so), but a win is always what we dream of.

Lets give the Saffers a harder battle in Chittagong!

my comment was not related to the match thread, good work by the way tonoy, as some members pointed out and spoke my mind i have built a pyramid of disappointment over time to the point i really dont care. Maybe some members also have followed bangladesh cricket for so long that they have forgotten the true meaning of defeat.

Everyone lives on hope. This is the reason we wake up to face a new day, whether it is good or bad. We must keep hope alive.

A good motto is hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst, then sometimes we can be pleasantly surprised when the unexpected happens.

Since I have been following BD cricket, it like a box of chocolates, one never knows what one will get. I am never shocked by their performance, but many times have been overcome by joy when they have success.
I am also hoping for a better showing from this team, and praying that SA does not amass a big first innings score, that they can bowl out SA below 300, and they themselves can score 300 runs.
I was not upset with their loss in the first test, as they did not crash by an innings defeat, that is also my prayer for them in the second test. Whether they win or lose, they will always be NO1 in my eyes.

Great Match Thread Tonoy bhaiya!! I hope the BD team takes the popsitives from the first test and apply it in this test. I really would like to see our batting line up do a lot better and play to their full extent. Our fielding could improve too. Also the bowlers need to be fired up and be willing to rip apart the African batting line up.We could certainly do a lot better and give the Proteas a run for their money. Lastly, let's make this our second test win!!! GO Bangladesh!!!!

So Bangladesh have taken a first innings lead two times in a row against South Africa now, before which they beat them in the World Cup!
I was a little bit disappointed by their loss in the first match, not because they lost, but because they could not build up on their first innings lead.
Lets all hope they can do it again, but this time followed by a win!

pace friendly pitch bananor merudondo ase naki BCB-er?
I expect a bounce back from Masri...one of the top 6 batsmen has to score a 100.
Rafiq will be Mr. Dependable as ususal and I hoep Shahadat can keep up the aggressiveness.

You know what? I hate the BD phrase 'Ek bar na parile dekho shoto bar' ...

Why? because [may be] some people [may] think its OK until he fail 100 times!

That is wrong with those "some" people, not with the phrase
