Bush won in 2004, anything is possible. The conservatives are buying into the Palin act and already hailing her as the second coming of - you won't believe it - Ronald Reagan. So, anything is possible.

McCain is far from perfect, but he's experienced - and tough. In a dangerous world, I'd stick with him

Right now, ALL the polls are showing a 6-7 point lead for Obama. If everything remains as it is for the next 4 weeks (i.e. no major development), it will be a landslide victory for Obama. I don't think I could have said that about Bush-Kerry or Bush-Gore a few weeks before those elections... they were always tight. This one was tight too, when Palin first arrived at the scene... but now that people are finding out more about the real Palin, things are going very much Obama's way.

Conservatives are excited about Palin, but Indepenedents are not. That's the defining difference between 2008 and 2004. In addition, youtube clips and bloggers are having a much bigger influence in the media... kinda holding the corporate media accountable. Look at how SNL made palin a laughing stock...

At this point, it will be difficult to stop a Obama landslide unless Obama makes a major gaffe... Democrats have total control of the narrative with the economic crisis taking a center stage, and I don't see McCain changing this narrative.

Speaking of which... there's a rumor floating around that the "real" Palin will be on SNL this week. :afraid:

EDIT: Possibly even on tomorrow night's SNL prime-time special:

Quote:
Imagine the possibilities. Sarah Palin turns up at tomorrow night's special 9:30 edition of " Saturday Night Live" to confront "Sarah Palin," aka Tina Fey. Is it ratings you want? (And NBC does, mark my words.)

This would be the cameo di tutti cameos - a clip for the ages - and a ratings magnet that could pull even the tides.

Reports - fueled Monday by Chicago Sun-Times' columnist Bill Zwecker who wrote that such a cameo might actually happen - took off yesterday, but alas, it is not to be, or at least not yet.

In an interview yesterday, "Weekend Update" anchor and "SNL" head writer, Seth Meyers, said: "Of those specific rumors, there's no truth. We do have an open-door policy, but there's nothing specific yet, but our window of opportunity is before the election. We'd love to have [Sen. John] McCain and [Sen. Barack] Obama on again, too. Our doors are always open."

Asked whether she might turn up for one of the other Thursday specials this month, or a Monday edition before election, Meyers said: "We'd love to have her [and] we spoke to her earlier [before] the time Tina did her [impression] and it seemed like something was going to work out." The problem, he says, is "the schedule. They're all pretty busy."

The Thursday special, which airs at 9:30 p.m. on WNBC/4, will feature a full edition of "Weekend Update," cuing off last night's debate.

The show's Saturday viewership has soared this season, in the wake of Fey's dead-on Palin impersonations. Meyers said that (of course) she'll be on tomorrow's program.

And - sigh - if only the real Sarah would be as well.

While Glen Beck calls BO a Marxist while demarking Democrats as Socialists BO now has a himangous task to answer whether he is able to wear Cindy M's shoe on War issue or is ACORN going to become the Achilles Heel.

Wow...

I don't know anybody in real life who scored below 1000 in SAT... even the dumbest kid in my school in BD scored at least 1100.

palin has been found to have abused her power as governor to get her ex brother in law fired as a personal family vendetta.

couple more points for obama in the polls.

mccain-palin will not be able to overcome the dual brunt of the economy-corruption

This is getting funnier every day.

Quote:
Republican McCain was embroiled in turmoil of his own meanwhile, after he was booed late Friday by supporters and appeared to undercut his own campaign strategy by calling time on personal attacks on Barack Obama.
...
McCain meanwhile took to the campaign trail in Iowa, for the first time after he had to step in at a town hall meeting in Minnesota Friday, when one woman said Obama was an "Arab" and a man said he was "scared" of the Democrat.

Critics say the seething anger seen at McCain rallies, with shouts of "treason" and "kill him" heard from some crowds, has been whipped up by campaign ads which have accused the Democrat of associating with terrorists.

"He's a decent family man (and) citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign's all about," McCain said at the town-hall meeting in Lakeville, Minnesota.

McCain told the man who said he was "scared" to bring his new baby into an America ruled by Obama that the Democrat was a "decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."

This is the first time I am following elections in USA and it seems like politicians there are no different than our khaleda and hasinas. Just that their system is better which is why they cant rob the country as blatantly as the politicians in third world countries. The way the republicans have run a smear campaign has been nothing short of pathetic. It amazes me how they even allowed supporters in the crowds to get away with chants as " kill him" and "terrorist". I thought mccain has a lot more dignity than this and this is why he tried to do some damage control in the last few days. I think the problem lies with the people who are managing his campaign, some of whom are the same people who ran the bush campaign in 2004 if I am not mistaken. ONe of my African American colleagues at work had said she does not want obama to win and that had startled me a bit. When I asked her why she said she does not want him to be assassinated and going from the violent reactions from the republican crowds seen so far I too think this would be a possibility if MCcain does not rein in the smear campaigns. Presidnet Kennedy who won against odds of being an evangelican which was a big deal at that time(to the republicans) probably led to his assassination as well and Barracks background might lead to his if the republicans keep behaving like third world country politicians. Moreover it amazes me to see how dumb someone can be when they say Obama is an arab and a muslim and that disqualifies him as a Presidential candidate.

Didn't Clinton some way abused power to get laid? Reminds me of Ershad.

there have never been a politician, ruler or religious leader anywhere in the world who had not abused power in some shape or form to benefit their own cause. what separates them is the degree to which that abuse took place, the impact and context of their actions. those failing to see it are either naive, trying to pull the rug over other people's eyes or are themselves abusers. this being the starting point, the obvious question is, should be refrain from trusting our glorious leaders and cultural architects? my own suggestion is that we should not stop trusting them because they are just as fallible as the rest of us. as soon as we start to relate to these icons a little better, understand their fallibility and appreciate each and every mistake they make in a steep learning process, the sooner we shall learn not to be disappointed. politics might seem like an art of making the impossible possible, however, in reality, it leads to very gradual changes in how we perceive our lives ought to be governed, rather than the actual realisation of the material conditions.

understanding this process is not rocket science. it requires little 'punditry' but just a sease or realism.
