I had the same experience..."which part of India is Bangladesh in"?
That's fine. It should just be embarassing for someone to not know about the country where the other guy is from. Just like how I'll be embarassed if someone tells me he's from a country whose name I never heard of.

Thats why when westerners sometimes ask me which country I am from, I just say India. Coz otherwise you'll end up spending rest of your life giving geography lesson.

So here I go to a wedding as a friend of a girl and get introduced to everyone as a friend but some how "friend" sounds like "fiance" to them. So out of no where in the dance floor, I am dragged in the middle by an influential murubbi as a future zamai. Not knowing how to do any dance moves that is in consistent with the music, I just stood there startled. All of a sudden everyone thinks I am a zamai in the family.
But you would then expect to be treated like a zamai but no I get bombarded by hate speeches from some murubbis.
All I wanted was to eat some f-------------- curry man. So FMBL!

Anyways, I should have just said i came here for the food and resisted any form of communication whatsoever.

Hate speech is a term for speech that attacks or disparages a person or group of people based on their social or ethnic group, such as race, gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or lack there of, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, language ability, ideology, social class, occupation, appearance (height, weight, skin color, etc.), mental capacity, and any other distinction that might be considered by some as a liability.

Well, I suppose coming to a wedding as a "friend" and not a fiancé/husband is a liability...
So much for "modern" Bangalis...

With that in mind, I don't think you will find your chhoto phupi's response that disturbing. She is, after all, thinking of your best interests from her perspective. Of course, that does not mean that you have to agree with her, but understanding her viewpoint might prevent you from taking it too personally.
BTW, why aren't you majoring in mathematics?

Couple of days ago, I was speaking to a friend's mom who came to the US recently. I was trying to tell her that her choto chele shouldn't complete his A'level in BD, and should rather complete his highschool in US.
Anyway, her comeback was that she already spoke with her bhagina...and out of nowhere, there goes 5 minutes of waste because no uni onar bhagina koto poysha banay and koto boro chakri korey oita niye ekta bhashon dibe. I've seen this nature in almost all BD aunties.Their bhaginas have to be the shobcheye bhalo salary ala, shobcheye boro job ala...and shobcheye smart.

It reminds me of back in old days (mid 90s) when my brother wanted to do computer science. Back then computers was largely unvailable in most households, and not many places were offering courses. They just started CompSci subjects in O and Alevels, and my parents kind of took it as a joke "Computer diye ki kheladhula korba?".
On that note, yeah I do hate this narrow minded mentality of the older generation that if you dont end up with a lab/surgery coat, with thick glasses staring at the computer, or be a engineer with helmet, your life is doomed.

Hahahaha...when I was 15-16 years old in Malibagh, Dhaka, I got heavily into weight-lifting, body building inspired by the Terminator movie and Arnold and Incredible Hulk's Lou Ferigno (spell)!
My mom and all my over-weight older fufus, chachis, khalas would save all the heavy lifting in the Market/store for me (like large electronics appliances!!) and constantly verbally abuse me saying exactly same thing, "Ki miah, kier beyam koro shara din, adha mon algaite gia jan jai jai koro...." My mom would also add, "shara din shodhu shaarer moto khawa, porashona aar kajer belai alosh aar ekta apodartho!!!"
They would also demand knowledge on how to lose body fat, stomach fat to me....of course I was scared of them elders and respectful thus would not say that I might have learned a thing or two from Arnold's books about bulking and toning muscle fibres but it is impossible for my knowledge to help these 300 lbs obese Shylheti, Noakhali and Brahmanbarian diet 50 years old ladies who even the poor business slow-day skinny ricksha pullers refuse to take as passanger or charge double for 2 persons fare because of their weight and body mass and fat!!

It might backfire.
Lifeline of a typical BD Engineer
Best student of the local mofoshshol city/suburb/thana ->
Top SSC result -> Top HSC result -> Buet/Duet/Chuet et. al. -> BCS Cadre in Public Health, Custom, Foreign Affairs -> Bureaucracy ++ -> Transparency Intl. Rating ++
That benevolent honest and lovely boy of the locality now a liability instead of an asset.
