I would add Tapash as another contender. Remember his 66 off 47 balls against NZ in Chittagong?

Someone had commented in another thread on Kapali that he did not like Kapali to be compared to Afridi as Kapali was much better. Maybe Kapali with his superior talent ( so well hidden and disguised till date) will have a 17 ball century some day.

Seeing that most BD batsmen average in the 20s anyway... might as well have someone like Afridi who gets his 20-30s off half as many balls instead of 50 balls. I was talking to my Bangladeshi friend about this, and he said BD batsmen don't have the power to do this kind of massive hitting. But that doesn't rule it out in the future.

Saddam played hide and seek for a while, and was discovered hidding in a hole under a farm house. I think he plays cricket with the in-mates now, there fore the 166 of just 77 bowls. :P:P

Can any Bangladeshi ever have an inning like Afridi?
Believe me, when I was following the match through crickinfo, immediately it reminded me Aftab's last ODI batting. Aftab's 24-run over still remains as one of the swetest memory of our cricket history. I strongly believe that he can be a better Afridi in future if properly nurtured.

Well... I will stretch the whole issue into a much wider conclusion:

Hitters like Afridi are rare... even if u look at the whole Test-Cricket sphere. None of the Test teams manage to discover hitters like him on a regular basis.. wheras Bangladesh is the newest in the group.

I would be utterly glad if we got someone like Afridi... but again.. I wouldnt be too disappointed if we can't manage to find one.

Because it's not just a matter of Cricket-Training-Standards.... it's also a matter of Big Luck to get one like him.

may be in future.. we can see this kinda innings from BD-batsman.. but Afridi is a rare talent.. and I hope that if any BD players have that kinda hitting capability.. we can utilize that in proper way!

I think Ashraful has potential to be afridi like. He is young and always plays aggressive and he also can bowl. I know he is not as big as Afridi but if he works on his technique, his strike rate will be over 90%. No problem!!! He needs to bowl more to improve on his bowling.

I agree with what Crickethorizon said. Do we actually need an Afridi? Surely it wouldn't hurt to have a hard-hitter like him in our team. Comparing Ashraful to Afridi is ridiculous. Ashraful is a genuine batsman with a significantly sounder technique. His shots are cultured cricketing strokes if you excuse the odd slog swats. Sunil Gavaskar once said that you will know what kind of power this guy possesses as soon as you shake his hands. Gavaskar didn't lie, as I found out after meeting Afridi. Innate hard-hitters like him are rare as someone pointed out. We should be happy with the flux of genuine stroke players at the U-19 level, and work towards nurturing them into international standard. Personally I would be happier with a Sehwag than an Afridi.

ya its harmful.

I think most of the team players like to be afridi thats why they are averaging below 25.

Bangladesh don,t need afridi at all

ya that true!! bnagladesh dont need players like afridi.we neeed players like ricky ponting, micheal beven i think sakib is capable of being one of them in our team. he is most consistant palyer of bangladesh team.its really good to see our young boys doing well. yes ashraful also very good batsman but dont have consistant.he need to build up his consistant and make average high...... we need palyers like australia not like any sub-continent country.if we can produce players like australia then someday we will be ranked 1 team in the world.but i see that coming in 8-9 years not soon. coz it need lots hard work.......

no,i dont think so...in the current team there are none who can play an innings like afridi...but there is one who can play an innings like tendulkar and ponting, which is more important.

I am really hurt to see that nobody mentioned about the innings Ashraful played against England. Yes, i am talking about that 52 ball 94 as the quality of the bowlers were much higher and the conditions were more suitable for the bowlers. It could easily be a 53 ball 100 as his last shot nearly reached for a over-boundary. I think that was simply superb comparing Afridi hammering some below standard Indian bowlers..

You should know that this thread (along with most of the posts) was created before that innings (which was in June)

well ash almost got it against ENgland. did u forgot his 92? I think his one was better as it was against a gang of FAST bowler in england. rather than spanking some spinner like indian bowlers in Pak...
