Quite a surpirsing result, as Nepal had dominated group stage and Afghanistan lost to Singapore... but Nepal often fail most important matches, as their batting side is too weak... I'm sorry for their passionate fans.
Afghanistan keep on dreaming of reaching next World Cup!

Jersey and Guernsey are two little islands between France and UK:

Xavier, any idea how in the earth Norway is the winner of European division II ?

ECC needs to bend the rules and include Jersey and Guernsey in division I.

I think that the reason is just that the whole of Norwegian cricket team is made by asian immigrants, so that's enough to beat teams like Germany, France and Jersey... anyway I'm sure that 99% of Norwegians don't know what cricket is...

The level of the game in continental Europe is really poor... Holland is a decent team with a good tradition, Denmark's Klokker is a good batsman... Italy is the best of the rest but I'm sure that Afghanistan would easily thrash them...

Afghanistan win a (very) low-scoring final by 2 wickets:

Jersey 80 all out (39.5 overs)
Afghanistan 81-8 (37.4 overs)

Afghanistan celebrate with the trophy after their two-wicket victory in the Final against Jersey. ©CricketEurope/ICC

Nepal win 3rd place match:
Nepal 189 (49.3 overs) P Khadka 48, K Shuja 5-34
USA 91 (42.4 overs)

Nepal have been tagged as "associates' South Africa"! (guess why...)

Congralutations to Afghanistan, though they were lucky to get to the semifinals after losing to Singapore in group stage... unfortunately we couldn't see a Afghanistan v USA final which would have been quite weird and would have also been talked about by media all over the world...

These are the teams who are going to play World Cricket League Division 4 next september:
Hong Kong, Tanzania, Italy, Fiji, Afghanistan and Jersey.
The first 2 teams will be promoted to WCL Division 3 2009.

That's nice from you mate... but I have never played cricket in my life, so any attempt by me would be laughable...

Italian cricket team is a decent one, mainly based on asian immigrants living in Italy... I don't know if they can win WCLD3 but still they have no chance to reach world cup, as teams like Kenya, Ireland, Holland etc... are much, much stronger...

So this is going to be the path for the Associates to World Cup 2011:

2008 WCL Division 4:
1st and 2nd from Div.5: Afghanistan and Jersey.
+ 5th to 8th from Div.3 2007 which are: Fiji, Italy, Tanzania, Hong Kong.
First 2 teams to WCL Div.3.

2009 WCL Division 3:
1st and 2nd from Div.4 (Afghanistan-? Hong Kong-?)
+ 3rd and 4th Div.3 2007 which are Cayman and Papua New Guinea
+ 5th and 6th from Div.2 2007: Argentina and Uganda.
First 2 teams finally reach World Cup qualifiers!

2009 World Cup Qualifiers (12 teams):
6 ODI Associates Kenya, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Canada, Bermuda.
+ 1th to 4th Division 2 2007 (UAE, Namibia, Danmark, Oman)
+ 1th and 2nd WCL Division 3 2009 (Afghanistan-? Papua-? Uganda-? Argentina-?)
Four teams best placed will qualify for the World Cup.

Anyway I think this World League system is too complicated... there should just be qualifiers for all teams without strict divisions... it is quite senseless to have Cayman and Oman still hoping for world cup qualifyng while better teams like USA and Nepal are already out...!

congrats to afghanistan, but sorry for nepal. i would have liked to see those 2 progress as far as possible. too bad for america, as well.

but i think this system whilst a fair bit convoluted, is pretty decent. they need a way to get cricket more popular in those countries.

xavier, any idea who's on Italy's team? are they italians or mostly expats from india-pakistan?

On contrary, I think ICC did the right thing by dividing up teams in divisions. There is no point watching Ireland thrashing PNG, they clearly belong to different leagues.

I can't say much about about USA since they are coming back from an international ban. But from what I have seen of Nepal in last two years, I don't think they ever had any real chance of qualifying for the next world cup.

I think there could have been world cup qualifiers (as there are at football) with preliminary rounds and the best teams to enter at the final stage of the competition.
The world league system is such a narrow way... Nepal are a developing team but they are out of world cup 2011 (3 years before it!) because they were beaten by Afghanistan... and you have worse teams playing in better levels... like Papua and Oman... this way you stop emerging countries to improve, instead of helping them... what is the goal for Nepal and the Usa cricket if they can't even hope to play wc qualifiers until 2015...???
It's ok to have a world league system but it should help teams to get better every year instead of burying them in low division 4-5-6... that's what I mean.

to al Furqaan: this is the page of Wikipedia on Italian cricket team:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy_n...l_cricket_team
here you can find the names of the cricketers, mostly are ex-pats.
