Default What is your take on 4 day test?

Are you a purist? This is a huge change. I remember a ICC had to wait a long time before totally taking the rest day out of the game.

What is your take on this one?

For: 1) Captains will be forced to make decisions (big problem for us). Games become exciting. 2) Organizers can schedule one test per week with three days rest.

Against: Longer hours per day can lead to more injuries. We have only one pacer. IF goes sown....

Hell no. Teams will play for the draw.

I have seen this countless times in domestic cricket. Even as a player in 3 day games.

But, hope that there is not something as ridiculous as 1st innings points being implemented here.

Why did they decide to consider this in the first place?

I think I am certain they will increase the 90 over per day limitation. What if they make it 100 overs or 105 overs? Day night game if necessary. Let the crowd come in after work.

That would be just one session lost. Would you accept that?

I accept any thing that is fair to both player and spectators/fans. I would like to see a higher frequency of day-night tests per year. Let's move away from it being the 'exhibition'.

I'm pretty sure the players will complain of playing that # of overs in a day./ Sooner rather than later they will beg again for 5 days.

But, that is just my opinion.

SAF players already complained to CSA for trying to schedule a 4 day test with Zim.

If one day gets washed out, there goes a result.

I think players will oppose, and rightly so.

I would consider it only if they can guarantee 4 days of play. Meaning, reserve a 5th day in case of rain.

Test cricket is not financially viable (except for Ashes). So if teams can incur less cost by shaving a day - thus prolonging test cricket in the long run - I think it's a good move.

That would be ideal.

4 day sounds interesting, could be a way to keep interest in Tests alive. Teams will have to score at 4 RPO if they have to get a result.

Depends on the pitches as well. If tests are played on roads like some Srilankan and Indian pitches four days won't be enough. 1st class matches are played in four day formats and they produce results. So, why not test matches.

I am in favor of four day test matches with a reserve rain day! I think this is ideal. a total of 360 overs is more than enough to make things exciting in addition to keeping Test Cricket traditions alive. Four day matches will prevent teams from batting in excess of 140 overs to ensure a result in most cases. The fans will be spared of boring slog fests. With ICC rankings at stake, Teams will play for a result. Most Test matches Bangladesh won ended within 4 days anyways...

In case any time gets lost to rain, there's always a reserve day...

I am in favor of 1 day/night test match.

Lets play 24 hours and the fittest win. There will be no draw. Whoever ahead in 1st innings will win.

There will be Breakfast, lunch and dinner break ... none of them more than 30 mins. There should be be biriani at dinner.

So we have to take just one day off (if its a week days)

... just kidding

There will be lots of drawn matches. To enforce result, they should limit each innings to 90 overs. That should add some excitement as teams would no more try to drag out an innings and play for result each time.

I agree with other regarding not extending each day beyond 90 overs, and to have a reserve day.

The its just an extended limited overs match with two innings.

They should retain the traditional aspect of the draw in Test cricket. Current 5-day format is the best. If we make too many changes it will be a totally different format and it won't increase fan interest at all. Will only save some money for boards.

Use T20 cricket's money to subsidize Tests.

^^ Agree. Format of the Test cricket is not really the problem. Problem is, nowadays, teams often are not making pitches that are result oriented. If you want Test matches to be exciting, make rank turners in the subcontinents, green tops in other places. That way we will get to see true battle of skills and wit between batsmen and bowlers.

But TV companies wanted to ensure a Test match is played for all five days, where batsmen will dominate. That's what resulted in boring matches on flat pitches. Now they are complaining Test matches are not exciting anymore!

Will be interesting to see how it goes. I feel the top 9 countries will stick to 5 days. No one wants to draw vs BD when they were dominating.

World Test Championship set to kill off push for four-day Tests

While four-day Tests may be given approval to be trialled – South Africa hopes to play one against Zimbabwe in Port Elizabeth starting on Boxing Day – the likelihood is they would only be permitted to be arranged bilaterally outside the Test championship when, if approved, it begins in two years' time. The majority view is that matches must be played over a consistent length in a Test championship.

There is unlikely to be support for four-day contests at all from players, according to Federation of International Cricketers' Associations CEO Tony Irish.
