it will help new comers like anamul, mominul, marshall--- when u have some one in the team as a captain and perform like this, plus best allrounder in the team, one of the most dangerous opening batsman (tamim) in the team--- they dont have to look for rolemodel outside of their dressing room.

Its definitely the best moment of our cricket. hopefully we will be able to draw this match. hopefully no accident

Very well written.

But strategy over everything else. How long are we going to wait for Mushy's wicket keeping skills to ripen? You cannot let the performances detract you from the overall strategy and direction of the team.
He really is a much better batsmen today then when he had started, and I admire his persistent vocal presence when keeping. But what shall we do about the countless dropped catches?

Again, excellent article by Rabz, but please BCB, strategy over everything else. 200 doesn't mean a lifetime guaranteed spot in the squad.

But this thread is titled "the significance of Mushy's double ton", and yes it is very significant and I'm happy for him.

Great post...it certainly raises the bar for himself and every other player in the side. Hopefully Ashraful will himself aspire to cross the mark. If he was complacent that he held the Bangladesh record for close to a decade, now he should have that fire to go at least 11 better to regain it.

I don't worry about Shakib, beyond prioritizing BPL over our national duties. But Tamim needs to work hard to regain fitness. We finally have the makings to make a really solid batting lineup. Bowling is another story all together. But we can at least draw matches now, even in overseas Tests and without our 2 best players.

Very nicely written post Rabz bhai. I always knew Mushy has the ability to make it big in international arena and hopefully many more good innings will come from his bat. But the only thing now I want from Mushy, He should improve his captaincy skill.

Nice read. However from my observation Mushfiq has always been a leader within the team. Look back at some of the highlights of matches when Shakib was captain and you'll find numerous instances of Mushy setting the field. Even Tamim is very respectful towards Mushy and I think this goes back to the BKSP/U19 days when Mushy was their senior and captain. In the Asia Cup I also noticed Mash, after making a minor change in the field when bowling, double-checking with Mushy to see if its alright. Certainly as an ex-captain and with his experience he doesn't need to do that. But I definitely agree with the essence of the article and think this is indeed a turning point in Mushy's captaincy. From now on he'll be regarded as a performing captain and this innings will have erased all doubts on whether he is captain on merit. This knock should also give a mental boost to Mushfiq himself and provide him with the self-assurance he may implicitly be seeking.

Often times results are maginified by their psychological ramifications which happen long after the fact and by people completely unrelated to the original first cause.

For so long we were bounded by 158 as the upper human limit for us, and that a partnership of 100 or maybe 125 runs. Partnerships in excess of 150 were rare. Mushy (and Ash) have finally shattered those pyschological limitations. We are already seeing that 150+ run parterships are the norm for us now, not an exceptional thing. I predict we will see a few more individual scores past 150 and perhaps even past 200 in the 2-3 years to come.

Beautifully written. Somewhere in my heart, I wanted Mushy to score a 200 before Ashraful. Ashraful, as many has said is flamboyant and "once in a blue moon" type of player. Sure, a 200 by Ashraful would have turned many heads, but those heads know this isn't likely to happen every day.
I am not saying Mushy will score a double hundred everyday, but what he relies on is his determination, grit and concentration more than his talent. And makes him a likelier candidate to score 100s than someone who relies on talent more, ie. Ashraful, Tamim, Shakib. Mushfique scoring a double century also sends a message to all the cricketers in Bangladesh and outside Bangladesh, that no matter what your talent set is, if you keep trying, if you keep giving your 100%, you can be the very best.

Good luck to Mushy.

It is fitting that this shall become a BC article. Go have a read. We have tweaked it a bit - you'll enjoy RabZ article once again:

The significance of Mushfiq's double century
Rabiul Alam

The Golden Boy did it. Pocket dynamo and Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahman Rahim becomes the first Bangladeshi cricketer to have scored a double century in Test Cricket. BanglaCricket's own Rabiul Alam pens a fitting tribute to Mushfiq and why this is more than a cricketing milestone.

^^ I am sick and tired of everyone calling him Mushfiqur Rahman...it is Mushfiqur Rahim!

^ Doc I found another typo. The paragraph where Rabz bhai talked about what different players might say, Can't is misspelled after Ashraful.

Good read Rabz bhai.

^ People actually call me that all the time. One time a mystery shopper went as far as calling me 'Ajax' in his report.
