Good catch. May be he can explain how he had that feeling. I know him as one of the most logical level headed guy here.

at the time he was only 20 or 21 (he's still only 22), he was one of the few off spinners around and he was doing really well, he had a terrific FC strike rate in the low 50s, a great average etc all the necessary stuff for stats, had some good batting points on his record already as well. he was having a great season and he came out and got a ton when the team needed it and got 4 really quick wickets (which included the hattrick - again right when the team needed it), ended up with 7 for the innings.

i know he's said he's struggled a bit without saqlain, feels a bit lost i guess and alone in taking on international cricket without him, he obviously had a great relationship for the time that saqlain was around the team. but sohag has always seemed a motivated young guy who is willing to put in the hard work.

i don't expect him to become the off spinning version of shakib but i think we've now found our test #8, his primary role should still be bowling, i don't want that to change but he's obviously got some ability with the bat, i think he's good enough to be one of the main bowlers as well as hold that #8 batting spot so we don't have to play a specialist bat at #8.

ঢাকা-চট্টগ্রামে গিয়ে কখনো ছেলের খেলা দেখা হয়নি। ঘরের টেলিভিশনই তাই ভরসা। পটুয়াখালী শহরের কলাতলার বাড়িতে পরিবারের অন্যদের সঙ্গে বসে ওই টেলিভিশনেই ছেলে সোহাগ গাজীর খেলা দেখেন মা হাসিনা বেগম। কালও দেখেছেন ছেলের হ্যাটট্রিক, গর্বিত হয়েছেন। ছেলের জন্য সবার দোয়া চান মা

মা হাসিনা বেগমl আপনার ছেলে তো খুব ভালো খেলল। খেলা দেখেছেন টেলিভিশনে?
হাসিনা বেগম: হ্যাঁ, দেখেছি। শুরু থেকে শেষ পুরো খেলা দেখেছি। পরিবারের সবাই একসঙ্গে বসে দেখেছি।
l সেঞ্চুরি করল, হ্যাটট্রিক করল। কেমন লাগল সোহাগের খেলা দেখে?
হাসিনা বেগম: খুবই ভালো। এত ভালো যে বলার মতো না। সোহাগ দেশের গৌরব, আমারও গৌরব, বরিশালের পটুয়াখালীর গৌরব। সবাই আমার ছেলের জন্য দোয়া করে, আমিও করি।
l ক্রিকেট খেলা বোঝেন আপনি?
হাসিনা বেগম: (হাসি) আগে তো বুঝতাম না। এখন বুঝি। ছেলে খেলে, তাই একটু একটু করে বুঝি। আমার বড় ছেলেও একসময় ক্রিকেট খেলত। ওই সোহাগকে খেলায় নিয়েছে।
l ছোটবেলায় যখন পড়া বাদ দিয়ে খেলত, বকা দিতেন না?
হাসিনা বেগম: তা তো দিতামই। বলতাম, খেলে করবি কী? মন্দ বলতাম, গালাগাল করতাম, মারধরও করেছি। বরগুনা জেলা স্কুলে ভর্তি করিয়েছিলাম। কিন্তু সোহাগ স্কুল ফাঁকি দিয়ে খেলতে চলে যেত। বল-ব্যাট নিয়ে বেরিয়ে পড়ত। স্যাররা একদিন ওর বাবার কাছে নালিশ দিল...সোহাগ স্কুলে যায় না।
l এর পরও সোহাগের খেলায় বাধা দেননি আপনারা?
হাসিনা বেগম: না। সোহাগের আব্বা খোঁজ নিয়ে জানল সোহাগ স্কুলে না গিয়ে খেলতে চলে যায়। ক্রিকেট খেলে। স্যাররা তখন বললেন, ঠিক আছে খেলতে যায় যখন খেলুক। আমরাও সোহাগের আগ্রহের কারণে আর বাধা দেইনি। ওর আব্বা পুলিশে চাকরি করত। বরগুনা থেকে খুলনায় বদলি হয়ে যান তিনি। খুলনায় গিয়ে সোহাগকে ওর ভাই এক কোচের কাছে নিয়ে প্র্যাকটিসের জন্য ভর্তি করে দেয়।
l এখন তো নিশ্চয়ই নিজের কাছেও ভালো লাগে ছেলে ক্রিকেটার হওয়ায়...
হাসিনা বেগম: ছেলে ভালো খেললে, রান করলে, আউট করলে ভালো তো লাগবেই। আমার কাছে সবচেয়ে ভালো লাগে যখন দেখি সবাই বলে সোহাগ ভালো খেলে। সোহাগের জন্য সবাই দোয়া করে। আমি আল্লাহর কাছে আর কিচ্ছু চাই না। আমি চাই, আমার ছেলে ভালো খেলুক।
l খেলা শেষে আজ (গতকাল) আপনাকে ফোন করেছে সোহাগ?
হাসিনা বেগম: এখনো করেনি। তবে সেঞ্চুরি করার পর ও আমাকে ফোন দিয়েছিল। বাসায় সেদিন সাংবাদিকেরা এসেছিলেন। আমি অসুস্থ বলে খুব বেশি কথা বলতে পারিনি। সোহাগ ফোন দিয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করল কেন কথা বলিনি? আমি কী বলব...কথা বলতে গেলে যে আমার গা কাঁপে।
l গা কাঁপে কেন? কী অসুখ আপনার?
হাসিনা বেগম: বছর দেড়েক আগে আমার মাথায় অপারেশন হয়েছে। টিউমার হয়েছিল মাথায়। এখন ডায়াবেটিস আছে, প্রেশারও আছে।
l সোহাগের খেলা কখনো মাঠে গিয়ে দেখেছেন?
হাসিনা বেগম: এলাকায় যখন খেলত, তখন দেখেছি। কখনো ঢাকায় গিয়ে দেখা হয়নি। অসুস্থ শরীর নিয়ে যেতে পারি না। নড়াচড়া করতে পারি না। তবে মন চায়। ইচ্ছা আছে একবার গিয়ে ছেলের খেলা দেখব।
