I expected more fight from NZ, especially at home. They are just another shorty who can only compete in t20.
They will get rolled over in the test series.

Ya NZ aren't on SA's level. The way I look at it is, Aus, SA, SL, Pak, England, and India are 1st tier teams while WI and NZ are 2nd tier teams, and to round it up, Zim and us are 3rd tier teams. And it shows in the ranking system. If you don't have 100 points, then you don't belong in the top tier.

And Vettori didn't take the wickets either so no incursion from that front yet.

We Aussies have learnt not to underestimate the Kiwis. They almost always punch well above their weight, and in Richard Hadlee's day they were very dangerous indeed.

They're a very good team in their own conditions but in the subcontinental conditions, it's a very different story. That's what really pulls them down at the end. If they can learn how to play spin better on low and slow tracks, they could become a good team.

That they do, my friend, that they most certainly do. Most of all teams they just love to take us down, which is OK, and really a little flattering. We have a somewhat brotherly relationship, always giving each other a hard time but attacks from outside on one or the other tend to bring us together to support the other. You will of course find some who don't share that sense of camerarderie but they are very much in the minority. Overall we have a grudging respect for the other. Our relationship with the English is similar.

True, no doubt, but for a nation of only 4.5 million they're not too shabby really. Where they really excel is in Rugby Union, and they are every bit our equal at that. One or other of us is almost always the top team in the world. Occasionally the South Africans or English put together a team to challenge that but it's not all that common. Tough as nails the Kiwis are as a people, and we respect that.

game on
9.45 am: I love the smell of good news in the morning. Blue skies and sunshine in Dunedin. Welcome to ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of what should be a full second day's play at the University Oval.

^ spoke too soon!
Billy Doctrove stays play will start at 10.30 am. They were concerned about the dew on the outfield. Aleem Dar says they are putting the players' safety first. So basically a bunch of trees bordering the ground cast a shadow on one part of the Oval, and prevented the sun from doing its thing and dry the dew. Well the outfield can't be wetter than it was last morning. Surely.

The ground is so crap. You can barely fit 5k crowd. just watched few overs, and NZ crowd is so boring too.

I am liking the test matches nowadays. It seems like we are putting the days of batsmen friendly pitches behind (hope India will not spoil that). I like to see a good contest from the bowlers and the batsmen. This series has stood up to the spirit - wonderful.

Steyn to Martin, 5 runs, Martin scores a five! He pushes the ball in front of point and runs a risky run, there would have been a run out had Petersen hit at the non-striker's end, Martin was miles out. But the throw missed, and there was no one backing up
|
Chris Gayle can hit 100's of sixes in a year but can he guarantee a 5, well Chris Martin can.
