Default Tigers' spinners a danger, warns Siddons

Tigers' spinners a danger, warns Siddons
Chris Barrett
March 31, 2011

MiCHAEL CLARKE'S squad for the upcoming one-day series against Bangladesh is vulnerable, says the hosts' coach Jamie Siddons, but not because of any growing pains in the dynamic between the new captain and Ricky Ponting.

Bangladesh produced a huge upset at the World Cup with a two-wicket win over England but failed to make the quarter-finals.

Even so, Siddons believes Australia's predominantly right-handed batting line-up could be susceptible against Bangladesh's spinners, led by their captain Shakib Al Hasan.

''I guess Australia's weakness is playing left-arm off-spin or the ball spinning away from the bat,'' Siddons said.

''It gives us a chance. Their chinks in the armour are that - if they don't play it well, then we're a chance, but we have to make enough runs to be competitive.''

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/...330-1cgcq.html

i hope we can do this, but i fear everytime we talk up our chances we perform hopelessly.

Taklu Da and his big mouth.

But then why he should care?... he is a sitting duck coach in vacation mood now.

BD batting weakness, overcomes any bowling strength we may have

Sort that out first.

you cant expect the bowlers to do everything for you, you gotta have the batting power to back up any bad bowling spells or any bad fielding

Our bowlers have not let us down too many times in the recent past. They have defended sub-200 totals against G8. Our batting is the main worry.

one good advantage, in 10 years we have learnt how to bowl, so that sence its great///

so will have to wait another 10 years guys.

I am happy with Siddons because he is not telling that Tamim will hit Brett Lee and Co. for a double century.

He mentioned 'enough' runs, how much is enough? At the beginning of his tenure it was 240, I guess, now it is 200.

I hope I'm wrong but I have a strange feeling BCB will extend Siddons. Especially if we get some positive results in this series. (I hope I'm wrong about Siddons' renewal, not the positive result in the series )

It seems he wants to stay which is a good thing but PLEASE BCB, don't let it be as a head coach.

Even Michael Clarke is a better spinner than all our spinners combined. If Clarke bowls full 10 overs he will pick 5fer in every match against us.

umm even if he does that, that doesn't necessarily mean he is a better bowler, rather our batsmen are poor

A team who plays Krejza as their "premier" spinner can not claim their part time spinners are better than Bangladesh's.
Let alone Shakib/Razzak, Australia will be happy to have someone like Suhrawardi in their team as a specialist spinner.

But they can claim that their part time spinners are good enough to bundle us out for 50. Not your point, I know.

India just used the same strategy with their pacers, all those leg-cutters crushing on Pak offstumps. The Mohali strip seemed a remake of Mirpur. Yeah, warn AUS as much you want but do not think we will survive with ~200 scores.

Siddons knows its not all lost for him in Bangladesh.
A "better than expected" series against the Aussies could still see things his way.
He is giving his last shot.

What can Clarke/Hussey do when our batsmen are determined to get bundled for 50?

Whether siddons stays or goes hope BD play well in this series and use their feet to the spinners which they didn't do almost throughout the whole world cup.

I don't know what's going with Tamim and the holidaying-they've had enough time to holiday i think from the early elimination, if he still had that hunger (for runs) then he would be practising right now. Tamim leads more of a celebrity lifestyle than shakib-when you do that you attract more attention and are bound to be criticised more.
At least siddons can't be accused of a negative view this time, but he'll get bashed either way so if i was siddons i wouldn't say anything-he has talked up BDs chance sin the past only for the kamikaze line up of batsmen to commit suicide, BD missed a golden oportunity in aust a few years back chasing 200 when they were something like 105/3 with 27 overs to go. I'm more worried about the aussie pacers

M clarke bowling 10 overs and geting a 5 fer seems a bit outlandish to me but then again stranger things have happened

BDs spinners are alot better than austs

Some of you guys are talking as if Siddon is dying to stay and be the coach of Bangladesh. Bangladesh won 3 matches in world cup. Two series win in a row. I think this is as best as you can get out of Bangladesh now, with time even under Siddon we will do well.
