I was going to stay quiet on this, but I have to complaint about the word 'Japs' which is considered a racist and derogatory term for a Japanese descent.

the term japs were used by americans during ww2 coz the entire word "japanese" is long, nd "japanese" at the time kept on popping up in their vocabulary....
i dont see anything wrong in it......ppl these days use "nigga" in a hip-hop way, while "nigga" is more racist than "jap", its more used in the black american community than white....
and if it is still racist to u...so be it...i dont think a derogatory term will be offending to them compared to the atrocities they commited in china, phillippines and rest of asia in ww2...

As an Asian, i supported Japan in that match. i was dishearted to see them lose like that.......I guess japanese were spending too much time on their fashion rather than practise....they didn't want to head some ball just coz it will ruin their hair settings...."according to my japanese friend...".....by the way, calling japs is racial just like calling Pakistani a paki.....i have noticed some of the indian forum calls bangladeshis as Bangees........i find it offending......

cant u guys take one decent lose sportingly ??
i havent seen anyone posting "yes..socceroos..congrats on ur win..u played well"... cuz they did.. n deserved to win that game...
the moment u find nothing to point out at... some of u have started to pick on little words which has been described in pure state of ecstacy and joy, and others has gone out to bring out the dictionary and encyclopedia to talk bout history, politics, and racism...
To:
SADI: Japan aint Kenya ... they r the asian champion and ranks 18th in the FIFA ranking while Australia ranks 44... so go figure out ur comparisons...
AKABIR77: No, they werent lucky. period. they played like the winning team and deserves every single of that 3 goals n 3 points that they got.
In case u guys dont know, the referee went to Mark Schwarzer just after 5 mins of the Japanese goal and apologised to him for his wrong decision.
We all call each other with a name..dont we ?? there are over countless of times that here in BC we called pakistanis paki.... and so what if few indians calls us bangees, cuz simply i dont give a rat's back... im not gonna go around n take offense everytime someone talks crap ... cuz ive got other things to do as well
and
BANGLATIGER84: that was a really poor shot at something that doesnt even concern u at all... don mean to get personal, but i see u live in UAE.. the land of the real thugs n convicts .. the oil rich[] who in the name of islam gambles away billions of thier money in casinos, boozes n girls... and still proclaim themselves a real first class muslims over us "miskins".... just cuz they speak arabic n they got the oil power ?? if u wanna start diggin up past and how every country came into existence... u might as well start a new thread but im afraid that would bring a ugly picture...
im taking it easy guys... don worry bout that..
but i just felt that we failed to appreciate a great win by a team who played their heart out till the dying seconds of the match with thier never-say-never attitude and registered a memorable victory...
Go the Socceroos...

What dissapoints me the most is that no one has taken to Australia, as they would any other underdog. Because thats what they are. Only 4 years ago, everyone took an instant liking to Korea and Senegal in the 2002 World Cup. Two years later, Greece, and Otto Rehagal, captured the hearts of many in Euro 2004. And yet, here we have a team, and a nation, only just beginning to make inroads on the world stage, only to be chastised for it.
I fear that it may have something to do with the same nations successes in other areas - or more specifically - in Cricket.

Firstly, I was replying to someone who felt "Japs" was perfectly ok just because its a short word. Japs was used in a derogatory way by American soldiers in WW2.
Secondly,
I am not a UAE national, your rant on UAE doesnt concern me at all. As a neutral, I would say you got some points right, but some points wrong as well. :duh:

Not in comparison to Japan!
Australia is a pretty decent side and they are of the same standard as Japan or Croatia. It wouldnt be a "shock" even if they beat Croatia.
Dont give FIFA Rankings any attention because Argentina is 10th? and USA is 5th in those rankings

Japan deserve to lose. Zico made tactical error. I am not an expert. But here is my opinion where Zico completly lose the plot.
1. It was evening game. Japan was playing too fast. There was no effort to slow down the match. What happened , Japanese players were tired after first half.
2. When Hiddink was throwing his forwards, he did nothing to combat it.
3. Japan was defending too deep. Back line was actually playing inside penalty box.
4. Even in the second half when they were tired, when they have the possesion they were busy on releasing the ball to Nakamura as if there were no other midfielder.
Combine those with those misses of Takahara. Twice he got Aussi goalkeeper at his mercy and twice he failed. As I mentioned in my earlier post in another thread, Japan could be surprise package if their forwards fire. Unfortunately they did not. It is not Aussie won rather Japan lose.
On other note Jap is as offensive as nigger or Paki.
And why were not rooting for Australia or why Japan. For me it is no 1 Asian connection, no 2 I am now residing in Japan. Why support Senegal or some other african country. They are like our fellow opperesed black brothers in developing world, unlike Australia who are predominantly white and from developed world.

I meant in the greater sense of things (e.g. World Cup). And I was also referring to experience, rather than rankings.

I don't care what you think, as you are neither Japanese or Black. There is no justification of a racist slang, calling a Japanese 'Jap' is as derogatory as any non-black person calling a black person 'nig*er', so I suggest you avoid using such words, even if it seems ok to you.
While we're at this, please sort out your choice of analogies, especially references you make to 'sex'.

Australia ranks below Japan just like Namibia ranks below Kenya... rank doesn't really matter here cuz in cricket we have only 10-15 countries playing while in football, its over hundred.... my point was kenya is a slightly better team than namibia and japan is a better team on paper than australia... just because aussies beat japan doesn't mean they will beat brazil.... try not to take everything literally...
about aussies winning japan... yes they played well and deserved to win... but problem lies somewhere else... when someone comes and says yeah we will thrash brazil next, thats when some of us make fun of the poster's football sense... its okay to be a good fan but you gotta be realistic at the same time... don't you think so?
