Observations from warm up matches:

1. On slow and low tracks, BD is a beast in ODI cricket, but unfortunately on high scoring pitches, we become paper tiger on most occasions

2. Shakib so far has done well as No 3 against WI, SL, and other lower ranked teams. In this WC, he will be truly tested in this position. No 3 is a position for a pure specialist, not for an allrounder, and I am therefore skeptical about Shakib's performance at no 3. I personally prefer Tamim-Liton followed by Soumya.

3. I still believe that selection of Mithun and Shabbir was a mistake. We should have had Imrul and Yasir Ali in the squad instead. After NZ tour, Shabbir has not yet performed.

4. As I had predicted, high scoring pitches will give advantage to the team batting first. No matter how good your batting is, more often than not, you will be unable to chase down the target once you concede 350+ runs.

5. High scoring pitches give advantage to these lower ranked teams: WI and Pakistan. And it puts in a disadvantageous situation to teams like BD, SL, and AFG.

6. From warm up matches, Australia looks like the most balanced team. They have a great opener in Warner, a solid no 3 and solid player of spin in Khawaja, a superb middle order batsman in Smith, a great finisher in Maxwell, great fast bowlers, and a great spin duo in Zampa and Lyon. India has equally excellent squad, but I keep Australia to be the most favorite to win the cup because (1) they are peaking at the right time (2) they always bring their best game at WC without fail. England is no 3 to win the WC in my list because of their weaker bowling.

7. Dark horses of this WC will be WI or NZ.

Looking at the scorecard, its a miracle we scored 250 plus with so many ducks

This is my summary.

We bowled really well. Then wanted to test our bowling strength. Mash used 9 bowlers at the end with everyone bowling between 3-8 overs. Ind was down at 104/4. If this was real match, that is when we would bring back the strike bowlers instead of the part timers. Abu Jayed would not be featuring in these type of matches. I liked Saif and Fizz. Rubel was a disappointment. May be he is still not 100%.

As for batting it was a good game chasing a huge total. Without Tamim, Liton and Soumya did good. Shakib got out of a very good first delivery. That happens. Good thing the duck is out of the way. Riyad is a concern for me. Since he can't bowl, he needs to start producing with the bat like last WC. He is the only one in BD camp with WC century (2) till now.

Because of our dismal batting performance, everyone probably forgot how poor Mushy the wicket keeper was today. Dont know why they are still persisting with him. Mushy should just focus on his batting. Liton should replace Mithun/Mosaddek and take over the gloves

^ Good summary. Saif and Fizzo would be the closers, instead Mash gave them a buffet of spinners, turning the warm up into a carnival. Our bowling line up did get exposed though, showing how thin we are. Super swing god, AJ, could not put a dent in them, and Mediocre Mehedi might be the most toothless frontline spinner going around in the international circuit.

Batting wise, pretty good, considering there were 3 ducks, strategically placed throughout the innings to kill all flow. But Liton, not good enough. You have to get set and launch, and then keep increasing your strike rate till you get out eventually. You don't get set and then retract. Also no centuries from any of the experienced guys, they had two in Dhoni and KL. Those extra runs were of course the difference.

Is Riyad still injured? He hasn't been amongst the runs even in the tri-series.

If he is not 100% he has no business playing. Subconsciously you will hesitate to put in a 100% in your shots if you still have a nagging shoulder injury.

Some moronic threads have been opened ever since the warmup. In my personal view, we should not look into this warmup match as things to come especially since Mash had already said he would rather lose the warm ups. Hoping we would have a much better WC.

we lost the warmup against Ireland A and then went on to win the Tri Series.. so if that doesn't put things into perspective then nothing will

We played well in the last world cup in Australia. I would say it was a brilliant effort to beat NZ in champions trophy in England as well. In general, the current BD team is competitive outside of Bangladesh against teams closer to our rankings. We beat West Indies in WI not too long ago. Against the top 3, they have superior players in every position and that is why we can only win if those 3 teams fumble and we play well.

Shakib is a good player of both pace and spin and therefore should not have problem scoring runs at number 3. Any batsman would fail early on if they get an outstanding delivery such as the one he got from Bumrah. However, I agree that based on the current form both Liton and Soumya needs to be in the side. They can both score runs quickly in a big chase which will ease pressure on the middle order.

Both Mithun and Shabbir performed given the limited chances they got. We will need the supporting act of Shabbir, Mosaddek, Mithun, SS, and Liton to fire if we are to beat 6 teams in the tournament. The coach and Mash backed Mosaddek and he did win us the final in the last tournament. I trust their judgment on Yasir Ali because they would have seen him up close with the squad

Pakistan scored 358 and still lost against England. Bottom line is the opposition. If it is England, Australia and India there is no escape. If they bat first they will bat us out of the game, if we bat first they will chase it down. Against sides closer to our ranking on flat pitches, it is better to play to our strength which is our batting. With SS Liton Tamim, Mushy, Shak, Ryad we have a batting lineup as good as we ever had.

WI is a dangerous team because they have power-hitters that can turn things around from any position. However, the amount of control we showed in the warm-up against India until the 22nd over, if we do that to Sri Lanka, Pak, Afghanistan, etc.. they will crack under pressure. Against the top 3, it is a different story.

England has Archer. This guy looks amazing and I believe he will win them crucial games in this WC

Haha thanks for refreshing my memory. I actually forgot that drama Mushy created after he lost captaincy. Good reminder haha
