Shakib-Al-Hasan: The Torch bearer of Bangladesh Cricket
Cricket of Bangladesh needed one such icon. A team with youthful exuberance was floundering in the ocean, looking for that leader who could show them the right direction. There could be no better time for the emergence of one such leader; Shakib-Al-Hasan.
Most young, yet most talented. Fluctuation in the performance graph goes beyond every imagination. Most unpredictable in their approach and outcome. This is what the Bangladesh team is all about. This team needed someone to guide them and inspire them. Stand in front of them with open chest and tell them, ‘Yes we can’.
Mohammad Ashraful, the youngest test centurion in the history of world cricket had all the reasons to take over that all important role. The governing body of Bangladesh cricket BCB also did not delay in entrusting him with that responsibility. But Ashraful, popularly termed as ‘waste of talent’ failed to come up with the expectations.
Here came Shakib-ul-Hasan. Aggressive yet calm, polite yet destructive. A person with immense personality and leadership quality. Has all the attributes to place him at the top of the ladder in the international cricket and also pull his fellow mates up.
The transition of Bangladesh cricket team at the top level, happened quiet differently than other Test cricketing nations. Other countries had their long cricketing history. They had their legends and icons to follow. But completely contrasting situation was presented to a nation just got their Test status. The senior players were forced to retire all at once. The young boys had to take the responsibilities, which they were not prepared for. It impacted on the individual performances and on the team as whole. A smoother transition in eliminating seniors and inducting fresh bloods would do a world of good for the team. Playing together, the junior players would learn from the seniors and also would get confidence and grow in strengths. The seniors would be able to leave examples behind them to follow (The maiden test century by Aminul Islam Bulbul is one such example).
But that didn’t happen. So, someone from this young outfit needed to come out of the shell and act beyond their age. Shakib probably transformed quickly to that level for the sake of demand of the situation. He has the strong character and immense personality to influence the rest of the team. Some of his teammates including Mashrafe Mortaza admitted his strong influence over all the team mates. Shakib’s achievement in the world ranking has given them the faith, ‘Yes we can’! In a recent interview Mashrafe mentioned that the history of Bangladesh cricket will be rewritten by Shakib-Al-Hasan. We could feel players like Mashrafe, Raqibul, Naeem, Riyadh are already trying to follow Shakib's footsteps.
There are rays of big hope at the end of the tunnel. Shakib, the torch bearer of Bangladesh cricket has taken the responsibility on his broad shoulder to take this young team through the tunnel to the new bright future.
Shakib-AL-Hasan, you have all our best wishes.

Get a county contract not an IPL one. Come on even a 10 year old knows what is better for you if you want to stick around cricket for the next 10 years.

Even though Shakib's rating has leaped upward faster than Ash's degradation in batting within last few weeks, I am still a little circumspect to call him the best that came out of Bangladesh. Definitely his consistency is something to be proud of in a team full of very inconsistent players but he's no Ash when it comes to batting technique and having all the shots and no Rafiq when it comes to variations in bowling. But since his got little bit of both skills and performing it very consistently I would definitely give him the credit and his #1 all rounder spot is a testament of that. But this raking is as volatile as the US stock exchange right now and it goes up as fast as it deeps down. So I'm not going to hold it against him if he happened to get replaced by someone like Chigumbura of Zim who just scored 72 of 39 balls and also took 2 wkts.
One thing I am very much waiting to see is his performance on foreign soil against a stronger opponent. If he can grab a five fer against a team like India or Aus then average around mid 30s with the bat I'd think he's definitely going to be world class player.
Our dreams have been shattered way too many times before ralying around a superlatively talented developing players, I'm afraid to do the same mistake again.
Please someone teach me how to dream big......

Agree with Beetar, but he did already take a 7 for against a good spin playing side in New Zealand and two back to back 5 fors against South Africa in South Africa.

Screw County. He should try for the Australian domestic competitions. Even better competition.

Uhh yeah...I know my county cricket mate. I also know that the Australian domestic league has better competition and facilities. Why settle for second best when you can try for the best?

County is more realistic because during Aussie domestic season we are usually busy playing international cricket. English county season takes place in our rainy season when we play least amount of cricket.

I just hope the management allows him to concentrate and flourish in his role. Last thing I want is having him become the next captain of the team.

nycpro96 lol snowman bhai ur avatar looks lik ash is playing baseball
The way he has been playing lately, maybe he should think of a career change. At least he will make more money in the MLB then the IPL.
Just a thought lol.

Yes, let's start hyping this guy to the skies and heaping incredible expectations on him til a string a disappointments lead to a vicious cycle of recriminations, pressure and more disappointments. After all, it worked so well with Ashraful, Rajib, Nafees, Tamim, Razzaq etc...

here we go again...no doubt that shakib is a good all rounder but its too early to judge him...let him play more..
reminds me of nafees, ashraful, kapali....
just wait and see....
he is bowling exceptionally well at the moment...
and our batting is so bad that any one who scores one or two good innings becomes our leader in no time
