Bangladesh Player Pool
In light of the recent player exodus, I am concatenating a list of all first class domestic cricketers in Bangladesh available for selection in the national team. I have included all potential national team prospects who have performed domestically or internationally over the past 4 years (since our u-19 plate win) and have shown glimpses of promise that will take our cricket to the epitome of international cricket within a decade.
I have intentionally left out players like Faisal Hossain Decans, Anwar Hossain, Hannan Sarkar, Mushfiq Babu- because I find it hard to believe they will make a comeback in the international stage. Golla and Pilot are not included because it looks like the board has retired them.
I am requesting our resident BC domestic cricket experts (SohelNR, Miraz, Eshen, etc) to please include any player I may have missed or overlooked.
2004 U-19 Batch Candidates-
Nafis Iqbal(rh), Shahriar Nafees(lh), Naeem Islam(rh-OS), Aftab Ahmed(rh-RM), Nazimuddin(rh), Mahmudullah Riyad(rh-OS), Nadif Chowdhury(rh-LM), +Dhiman Ghosh(rh), Enamul Haque(SLA-rh), Shahadat Hossain Rajib(RFM-rh), Nazmul Hossain(RMF-rh), Talha Jubair(RFM-rh), Shafaq Al-Zabir(LM-rh), Ziaur Rahman(RMF-rh)
2006 U-19 Batch Candidates-
Tamim Iqbal(lh), Rokibul Hasan Nirala(rh), Shakib Al Hasan(lh-SLA), Mehrab Hossain Orion(lh-SLA), Shamsur Rahman Shuvo(rh), Marshall Ayub(rh-LS), +Mushfiqur Rahim(rh), Sohrawordi Shuvo(SLA-lh), Nabil Samad(SLA-lh), Dollar Mahmud(RMF-rh)
Domestic Candidates-
Tushar Imran(rh), Rajin Saleh(rh), Alok Kapali(rh-LS), Ashraful Matin(rh-LS), Junaed Siddique Imrose(lh-OS), Imrul Kayes(lh), Nazmus Sadat(lh-SLA), Jahurul Islam Omi(rh), Nasiruddin Faruque(lh), Imtiaz Hossain(rh), Nazmul Hossain Milon(rh-RM), Farhad Hossain(rh-OS), Farhad Reza(rh-RMF), +Sahagir Hossain Pavel(rh), +Shaheen Hossain(rh), Abdur Razzak Raj(SLA-lh), Mosharraf Hossain Rubel(SLA-lh), Elias Sunny(SLA-lh), Arafat Sunny(SLA-lh), Mashrafe Mortaza(RFM-rh), Delwar Hossain(RMF-rh), Mohammad Shahzada(RMF-rh), Sajedul Islam(LMF-rh), Syed Rasel(LM-lh), Mahbubul Alam Robin(RMF-rh), Tareq Aziz Khan(RMF-rh), Sumon Saha(RFM-rh)
**Ones to watch- +Mithun Ali(rh), +Nadimuddin(lh), Rony Talukdar(rh), Nasir Hossain(rh-OS), Rubel Hossain(RFM), Shubhashish Roy(RFM), Saju Datta(SLA), Taposh Ghosh(LS)
From the above list, I have comprised a preliminary squad of 30 which we should stick with till the 2011 world cup (barring exceptional performances). As of now, 24 of these players are in the training camp for the New Zealand series-
[*NOTE- Removed Tushar from the list below and added Nazmul Hossain Milon- this guy can fill the role of seamer-allrounder that we are desperately looking for. He is also an extremely clean hitter and so far remains consistent in the domestic circuit. Lets see what he does for the academy (when given the chance). I also have great hope for Shubhashish.]
National Team Preliminary Squad
Opener- Tamim Iqbal, Junaed Siddique, Nafis Iqbal, Imrul Kayes
Top Order- Rajin Saleh, Ashraful, Rokibul Hasan Nirala, Shamsur Rahman Shuvo
Middle Order- Shakib Al Hasan, Mehrab Hossain Orion, Naeem Islam, Mahmud Ullah Riyad, Nadif Chowdhury, Marshall Ayub, Nazmul Hossain Milon
Wicket Keeper- Mushfiqur Rahim, Sahagir Hossain Pavel, Mithun Ali
Spinner- Abdur Razzak Raj, Enamul Haque, Sohrawordi Shuvo, Nasir Hossain
Pacer- Mashrafe Mortaza, Shahadat Hossain Rajib, Syed Rasel, Sajedul Islam, Mahbubul Alam Robin, Nazmul Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Shubhashish Roy

On another note, I have been around BC for a long long time, mostly as an observer- but this is my first official thread. So forgive the sheer enormous length of my writing/compiling. Got a little carried away there )

Hannan Sarkar and Deccans will both be very disappointed that you've ruled them out of making a national comeback! I bumped into Hannan Sarkar in England this summer and he seems keen to regain his BD place. He also told me Deccans was playing in England this summer...

I'm surprised people have completely forsaken Tareq Aziz. He has a pretty good domestic season last year and considering he's a genuine swing bowler, taking wickets on dead wickets here was quite an accomplishment.
Defnitiely one to make a comeback...

Let alone players, I am dissappointed to see the first name among the young ones that has been disregarded. May be Sadat's injury is to blame partially for his inconsistency. I believe he will "Kayes'er bhat marbey". I patiently wait for this years NCL. And he can bowl too.

basically this is who i see as the contenders for the squads in the next few years:
batsmen - tamim, junaid, imrul, naeem, ashraful, raqibul, nazmus sadat, nafis iqbal, gazi salahuddin, shamsur
allrounders - shakib, riyad, marshall ayub, nasir, milon, delwar hossain
keepers - rahim, mithun ali, saghir hossain, ashiqul islam
spinners - razzak, enamul haque, shuvo, saju datta, arafat sunny
pacers - mash, rasel, shahadat, rubel, subashis, sajidul, sumon saha, nazmul, dollar, mahbubul alam, ziaur
it's a big squad but players will start to drop out of it. i think the fight for the #2 keeper is becoming an interesting one, saghir is obviously the #2 atm but ashiqul is being tested in the academy team and mithun ali is supposed to be a bit of a prospect.
similar with the pacers, i expect mash, shahadat, rasel, sajidul, rubel, robin and subashis to be the main contenders but the others also have potential.
spinners we really don't have that many choices so it's pretty straight forward.
batting for me was pretty easy to pick as well, nazmus and gazi are really the only 2 who atm we're not sure about, the others should all be strong contenders for the team for many years.

Thanks for your tally Pichchi.
It would be a lot comforting for our some panic-ridden friends who thought its all over after the exodus of a few.
As our beloved Ash stated few days back, " We have 160 first class cricketers, only 14 left".
We surely do have the depth, but the question is, are they ready enough to fill the voids.
I think the time is high to put your foot in.
For some reason, may be from an admiration of the Khan family, i do have an expectation of the Tamim-Nafees opening pair, IF they get that chance.
The younger one is already performing, and with his older brother alongside, both can have a positive effect on each other.

One notable omission that I find is opening batsman Mithun Ali (RHB) from 2008 U/19 team. Although Mithun had not done well in the last U/19 cup, his performances leading up to that tournament and in Dhaka league afterward showed lots of promise.
I also think Tareq Aziz should not be ruled out yet.

Yes, Mithun seems like a good keeper-batsman to me as well. What I remember seeing is that he can score quite quickly. He also reminds me of Aftab...he's a little guy with big eyes.

Just added the above mentioned players to the player pool. The only reason I have left Nazmus out of the preliminary squad is because I dont think he will be introduced to the national team before the next world cup. I think we will stick with Tamim, Nafis, Junaed and Imrul for the next couple of years. Also, from what I have seen- he is mostly a hit-or-miss player and we already have too many of those in the team. But hopefully, if he performs this NCL and shows some consistency with the Academy, then why not? It can only be good for BD cricket if we can have an aggressive opener who can be handy with the ball. But as of now, I am too excited to see Tamim, Nafis bhai and Junaed in the top 3..

How can you write off Mohammad Shahzada? Not consistent? Are we talking about the same player? Mohammad Shahzada: 137 FC wickets at 20.69 and 46 List A wickets at 24.95. Plus he has got a FC century and is only 22 years old he may definetely emerge as a contender any time.

Brilliant thread, the icl has dented us, but they have taken away a lot of dead wood as well (wish they had taken golla as well). With pilot retired, there is no option but to look forward and the list you have compiled gives a good indication of where we are headed.

just added Ronny Talukdar on the list of "Players to Watch". 176 in 3rd first class match is not bad! Hopefully he can be consistent. Also, Shubhasish looks really promising. Hope he gets picked up for the academy after NCL season ends.
I will update the lists as the season progresses. Resident experts- please include any player you have seen live and see great potential in- to the list..

Recently, our coach said we are looking for players in 4 positions-
1) Opener to accompany Tamim
2) Reliable one down batsman
3) 3rd pacer for tests
4) A seamer- allrounder
Among the current players, who do you guys think fits the bill?

well sajidul is looking good to becoming a pace allrounder, i'd say atm he's the front runner. as for opening and 1st drop, i think imrul would be a good 1st drop but he might be needed to open with tamim, the 3rd pacer for tests imo atm should be robin.

Good Post. Bold marked players have already played for BD. More time passes rate of intake is less.
