It seems that BD will only be playing 5 test matches this year, 4 more to go, well placed, 2 against the Windians in July and 2 against India in December. If Zim had acquired their Test status, they they would have played a couple against them.

They should try to arrange a few with Pakistan who are Test starved at the moment. Luckily SL have decided to play 2 tests with them.
I dont think BD international cricketing calendar is heavy after the middle of this year, after Zim, then there is Pakistan, then the 20/20 world championship in England, then WI tour. i dont see any 20/20 matches arranged, I hope at least one can be arranged to draw the crowds in, because the Windians love their 20/20 matches.
I hope that after the Pakistani tour, Jamie makes them practice for the 20/20 competition, they have to beat at least Ireland or India to progress, cant see them beating India though, so Ireland is their target.

5 test matches is a silly amount imo, half what the team should be playing, if they can't get anymore test matches then they should schedule a lot of 4-day cricket against quality opposition.

this is really unfair.. coz i feel.. tht we have improved.. a bit.. coz every series.. xept the away 1 against SA... we have played well in one test every series.. n hv come pretty close 2 winning.. and if they give us sum more tym.. n if v continue like this.. n try a bit harder.. i really don think there is any need 2 strip the test status off us....

We have 5 Test matches against Zimbabwe this year.

In August: Bangladesh in Zimbabwe (2 Tests & 3 ODIs)
In October: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh (3 Tests & 5 ODIs)

So we will have a total of 10 Tests this year which is not bad at all.

As far as I know, Zim has not been reinstated to play Test cricket. They are fighting at the moment to regain a place, but many countries will be against them, seeing how BD is performing. Top teams will not play against them. ICC will be reluctant to give them Test status.

in regards to all formats it wouldn't surprise me if the team is a lot different in 2011, by then mithun ali might be the ODI keeper with even more of a chance of being the t20 keeper, as for test cricket if we do get those players from the ICL back then i could see mushy being a specialist bat by 2011 and dhiman being the specialist keeper (even if we don't get the ICLers back i could see mushy being converted to a specialist bat and bringing in someone else to use the gloves. plus aftab, SN and slokw ill be back in the fold).

we're still struggling to find a test #3 and shamsur might be there by 2011 (or maybe raqibul will become the test #3 or it could be junaid with imrul and tamim opening), also nasir hossain, rubel hossain, subashis roy, ziaur rahman, delwar hossain, marshall ayub etc all of them them should solidly be in consideration for national honours by that time.

also by 2011 a few of the current young nationals could be developed enough to take on leadership roles, so imo it is tough to see where the team will be in 2011 and that makes it tough to see how the team will be performing then as well. improvement is necessary though, the test matches against WI will give us a good indication of where BD is at i think.

No ICC plan to strip Bangladesh of Test status: Richardson

The International Cricket Council says it has no plan to strip Bangladesh of Test status though it is thinking about the options to accommodate Bangladesh in Test Cricket after the current Future Tour Programme (FTP) expires in March 2012.

David Richardson, the visiting general manager of the ICC, told reporters at Hotel Sheraton they were working on three different options about how Test cricket will go in the future and were taking opinions from its all stakeholders.

Among the options, the first one is to maintain the existing format where the Test-playing nations play each other at least once home and away series in a six-year FTP period.

But, the problem is that some of the nations are reluctant to stick to the existing format that has forced the ICC to think of an alternative.

At the moment the ICC has the best alternative idea to hold a Test championship for a four-year period where the countries will have four home series and four away series in the first two years.

After the completion of the first two-year schedules, top four teams on the table will play each other in the next two years to decide the title.

The fifth to eighth teams will also play for place-deciding matches while ninth and tenth teams will play a play-off match.

The ICC believes it will significantly reduce the number of Test matches and thus the teams will be able to play enough one-day international and Twenty20 matches.

Richardson, a former South Africa wicketkeeper, briefed the BCB on all the options, but he hardly got any support about ICC's alternative plan.

Bangladesh, ninth in Test ranking, will barely get any match in the second part of the Test championship if the ICC approves the alternative format.

"The FTP is an agreement between the Test sides. If they don't want this we must think of some other plans," said Richardson, admitting that the idea of holding Test championship was complicated and needed more time to get a shape.

Richardson said the FTP was an agreement among the Test nations and that they must think of some other plans if they did not want this.

The South African had a lot of discussions in Dhaka about the future of Test cricket but the official purpose of his visit is the centenary programme of the ICC.

The game's governing body, which started its journey 100 years ago with only three members in Australia, England and South Africa, will celebrate the centenary programme with 104 countries.

Asked about breakaway Indian Cricket League, Richardson, sympathising with rebel Bangladesh and New Zealand players, hopes India will resolve the issue quickly so that countries did not suffer anymore.

Apparently Rhodes was very impatient and had to sit out 40 overs in the dressing room after he made a silly shot and got out. the same thing is happening to Ashraful.

IMHO we should step out of test cricket until we prove our capabilities , it is bette than getting kicked out of test cricket. And anyways I dont think we deserve test status and giving test status up will give the team something to achieve and the players can perceive themselves.

I doubt whether BD will be kicked out of test cricket, but may definitely play fewer tests with other countries after 2012. I feel that the Tier system will be in play, and Pakistan, WI, BD and NZ will be in tier 2
and they will have to fight it out to advance to tier 1.
Maybe BD will perform much better and win a few matches then.
