Is Kamala Harris the Clinton of 2020? She is. Two great opinion piece here.

Is Kamala Harris the 'Hillary Clinton of 2020 POTUS race?'

Kamala Harris 2020 Would Be Hillary Clinton All Over Again

Quote:
Of course, Kamala Harris is hoping, like Hillary Clinton and many of her supporters in 2016 were, that voters will embrace identity politics and see voting for a woman or a black person as inherently progressive regardless of whether their actual career accomplishments and political platform actually evinces progressive policies. Many voters will.

Electing a black woman to be “The Man” is an impoverished notion of progress.

Hillary Clinton Was Dick Cheney in a Pantsuit.

But this mentality is a major reason why Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign crashed and burned so spectacularly in 2016. The fact that she was the most viable female candidate for the U.S. presidency in history was irresistibly tantalizing to many in the Democratic Party, which shows you how shallow and superficial their level of political thinking is.

Any Democrat in 2015 or 2016 who could bring themselves to set aside their fixation with Hillary Clinton’s Fallopian tubes for ten minutes to make a sober examination of her record as a New York Senator and Secretary of State, would have found that everything they hated about George W. Bush or Dick Cheney was true about Clinton too.
Quote:
Before she was elected to the U.S. Senate in California in 2016, Kamala Harris made a name for herself as the attorney general of San Francisco by increasing the felony conviction rate to record highs. That includes non-violent crimes like selling drugs, for which Harris increased the conviction rate from 56% in 2003 to 74% in 2006.

Donald Trump has already said he would probably sign a bill to legalize marijuana at the federal level. What is Kamala Harris going to do in the campaign against Donald Trump when there is a groundswell of support for legalizing marijuana nationwide, and Donald Trump supports it, but Kamala Harris made a name for herself and profited by locking up people who sold it?

By the time Harris was California Attorney General, she had helped put so many people in confinement that the U.S. Supreme Court actually ruled in a 2011 case (Brown v. Plata) that California’s prisons were so overcrowded that the resulting horrendous conditions amounted to cruel and unusual punishment in violation of the Bill of Rights.

Throughout 2018 the only thing Donald Trump could manage to receive praise from the Democrats for (and he received a lot of praise from Democrats and progressives for this) was signing one of the most comprehensive prison reform bills in history to reduce sentences.

It would be another fatal blunder for Democrats to nominate someone to run against Trump whose greatest success in life other than marketing herself to the political donor class and voters, has been feeding people to the prison industrial complex in California.

Donnie saved me some money on last years tax and it will happen 9 more years. F*** $15 minimum wage, f*** free college and f*** all handout programs. Ppl immigrating to this country and right away start going in food stamp, ssi, medicaid without any contributions to or for this country. We shouldn't be subsidizing that. F all liberal "progressive" candidates.

Let take this country back to what it supposed to be. A country full of opportunities. NOt a country full of free handouts. This is a country for those who work hard and have good work ethics and for those who are innovators. Instead what we have is all the lazy bum but excellent innovators on abusing the entitlement programs.

Low Energy Jeb Cory Booker entered the race. Another neo liberal corporate Democratic FRAUD.

This low energy actor acting as high energy is going nowhere. As Trump has said this fraud has NO CHANCE

I think you need to come out of your hardcore capitalist bubble and see that there exists other points of view that make sense. If you claim US or any country to be a land of opportunity, you have to prove it with tangible proofs how it is a land of opportunity. You simply cannot make claims out of thin air - or as the saying goes in Bangla: শুধু কথায় চিড়ে ভিজে না।

A few basic amenities of life must be made available for each and every individual by the government for equal opportunity to exist for everyone. These include food, affordable home, free healthcare for all, and free quality education for all. These are must. Only when these are guaranteed as rights, and not regarded as privileges, each citizen shall have a meaningful shot to attain his or her full potential.

If a child whose parent is working three jobs suddenly becomes sick but cannot afford healthcare, how can this child compete with a rich kid? In this scenario, a country cannot claim itself to be a land of opportunity for everyone unless it provides free healthcare.

The role of government is to provide those basic amenities to its people, first and foremost. Government should also defend the country, regulate/control its rich elites so that the interest of people is protected, and establish justice overall. Government is supposed to be of the people, for the people, and by the people. But neo-liberal governments have become government of corporations. It happily bails out banks (happening both in US and BD) with trillions of dollars, gives billions of dollars in corporate welfare and subsidy to corporations, writes tax laws however the corporations want, gives as much money as the defense contractors want, but god forbid, when the interest of people are spoken about, the government shows the temerity to shame people as lazy bums.

Capitalism is socialism for the rich. And in capitalism, people are for corporations/government. Government/corporations are not for people.

Of course I am not against capitalism. But now that morality/spirituality is close to non-existent, government must play a strong role to control and regulate capitalism. That market will take care of itself is a myth, and it is even a bigger myth when the society itself is amoral.

The free handouts that you despise so much, is actually NOTHING compared to the handouts the government is giving out to the banks, defense contractors, and other corporations. Like it or not, if you want a society that is properly functioning, there has to be some free handouts. Therefore, you must not question free handouts, but rather question how government spend your tax dollars.

As for the migrants, you being a hardcore capitalist won’t be able to see the value in migrants. I am unable to quote now, but there are studies, which show that migrants contribute to the US economy way more than what US government spend on them. Migrants often do the menial jobs that the citizens of a country do not do otherwise. For example, the current migration policy of Donald Trump is harming the agriculture in California, because the owners are unable to find labor to work on their fields, a work that was dominated by migrant labor.

However, the bigger picture is this migrant crisis is INTENTIONALLY created by the capitalist corporations and governments. This how it happens:

Step 1. Capitalists want to steal capital.
Step 2. Capital consists of natural resources or cheap labor or both
Step 3. Capital is found in country X
Step 4. That country is declared a national security threat, probably the biggest con word ever invented in the history of humanity, which can be tossed up to make everything halal
Step 5. Government tries regime change in that country through organizing a coup and supporting an opposition party that favors corporations' business interest
Step 6. If the regime change fails with indirect tactics, military intervenes. Profit for defense contractors
Step 7. Puppet government comes to power and provides access to resources for corporations
Step 8. Military intervention causes chaos, and the puppet government cannot govern too. Result: people start migrating
Step 9. When migrants come to the shore, corporations like it too - because they can use cheap migrant labor without providing many benefits/job security they are otherwise required to provide to citizens.
Step 10. More migrants means more (free) prison labor (i.e. slavery), and more private prisons means more money from governments in the form of contracts
Step 11. After military intervention comes nation building. And for nation building, the affected country is forced to take loan from IMF and World bank with a very high interest rate and on the condition of awarding construction projects to its chosen contractors/corporations
Step 12. The migrant crisis is also a boon for the politicians - the right wing can resort to politics of divide and rule and building wall, easily scapegoating ‘the others’ for their own policy failures whereas the left wing sheds crocodile tears and play the good guy card all while being in the pocket of corporations

And the cycle continues.

The migrant crisis that Europe is experiencing today - who created it? Who destroyed two countries - Syria and Libya?

You need to study two things - propaganda and history. You need to learn the origin of propaganda and how it works. You need to know history so that you can understand how we arrived to the current status quo.

Damn, Shardul bhai killed it with his arguments MashaAllah tabarakAllah . This was the best way to explain the Military-industrial complex/prison industrial complex for dummies like me. Libya actually had a lot more freedom and equality than a lot of modern western countries today....until it was invaded...

You do not need equal opportunities for everyone. That is an idealistic world view. You just need enough opportunities for social mobility. It's a step by step process. After that social mobility, your kids can be "more privileged" than you.

Being born into a wealthy family is winning a genetic lottery just like getting the short end of the stick if u are born into a poor family. You have to make the best of what is given to you. There is no such a thing as attaining "full potential". United States offers wide variety of quality educational institutions and many financial aids and loans for you to get your education. It is your choice how you want to proceed. Access is and was never a problem. You can unleash all that potential with the resources that you have. Why does every college need to be free at the expense of tax payers money? In fact just as an example, most IVY league graduates (not talking about the rich ones) in US graduate with zero student loans. Institution offers them free ride from all the billions of dollars in endowment they get from their previous successful graduates.
There are many countries in the world with free colleges but are they doing any better than USA? Why does everybody in the world is hell bent in coming to US institution if that is the case.

Affordable home is also geography dependent. Move if u can't afford it. There are occasions where I do however believe big corporations have some duty if they are the cause this affordability. Again it should not be a tax payer problem.
Everyone has access to Food in this country. Not able to afford food is a myth. The food stamp program in this country needs to eliminated. Period. It needs to be repackaged in a way where fewer people (those who actually need it) get much much higher amount.

Health care is the only sector in this country that needs to be truly free for all imo and needs massive overhaul. you can have a better top notch system and truly free for all than the current inefficient bureaucratic system with the amount of money we spend.

Quote:

Lol . everything needs to be looked at in relation to everything else. these are long discussions. I support cut in govt spending. This cut needs to be across everything including but not limited to entitlement programs (hand outs), military spending (needs massive cut), health care (needs overhaul which will create the cut - not cut with current system intact).

This is an irrelevant political response to my post even it may sound logical to others. Immigrants arriving to USA are not only from countries where US invaded and stole their resources.
And moreover, the outcome from past actions of others are not how I view how I would like to tackle a problem. I view a problem how it affects us going forward. I simply do not believe in subsidizing others and wasteful spending. When it comes to tax revenue, the majority will come from majority of the regular ppl. Taxing One billionarie 90 percent will only get u 900 million in revenue but tax 1 million ppl with 100k income at 10% - u get 1 billion. Whose tax do u think will be targeted for increased revenues?? It will sound great to tax the billionaire even higher but reality is the increased tax falls on regular folks. So it is me and you the hard worker who will be subsidizing for the equal opportunities for children of your food stamp using neighbor.

At a basic level, there has to be equal opportunity for EVERYONE. Food, shelter, healthcare, and education - these are the bare minimum. Of course, the rich kid will have other advantages due to being rich - and no one is taking those away from him or her.

Also what do you mean by 'enough opportunity'? How do you tangibly define 'enough'?

Also, am I being idealistic? Probably yes. As a politician, you must be bold, idealistic, and visionary. I heard somewhere in a talk show, "there is nothing pragmatic about incremental solution to a catastrophic problem." You must aim for the highest. This is what the early caliphs of Islam used to be like. Caliph Umar used to be fearful thinking that he would be responsible to God on the Day of Judgment even if a stray camel remains hungry in a remote desert.

And this is what a government is supposed to be. Collectively it is supposed to be the guardian of each and every citizen, and more importantly, the guardian of the poor, the needy, the helpless, and the common mass.

The devil is in the detail. Access to college is available but in exchange for life long student loan. This is nothing but another trick from the bankers. Load students with debt such that they keep repaying it until they are in their 50s. This is predatory capitalism. As Dr. Jill Stein repeatedly campaigned in 2016, student loan debt restrained a huge amount of human potential and creativity that otherwise could be unleashed through abolishing all student loan debts and starting free college.

Of course, free college will not eliminate private colleges. Private colleges can coexist alongside government funded free colleges. If capitalism is all about choices, why is capitalism so allergic to anything government funded? Don't they like competition/choice?

It is easy to say move out but it is not practical for millions of people. And yes, shelter might not be a tax payer problem but the government must play a role in keeping the price in check. Otherwise, supply and demand will not control the market price. In many states in US, the ratio of empty homes to homeless people is 5 to 1, and yet the housing price keeps increasing. Why? Because for the top 1%, it makes no difference if those houses remain empty or occupied. Therefore the government must play a role to ensure housing affordability.

See you had to budge at least in one aspect because you simply could not weasel out and come up with any alternative capitalist argument

Past actions? Do you have gold fish memory or what? What is USA doing to Venezuela now? And the thousands that migrated from Venezuela to its neighboring countries a few months ago happened due to economic sanctions by USA.

It was Hillary Clinton who destroyed Libya. Was it happening in medieval ages?

Rohingya crisis? Is it not man made?

Economic migration has been happening since the time of Adam. It never causes problem or crisis. It is a natural phenomenon. However, when migrations happens due to man-made causes, it creates crisis. Seems you are simply unwilling to look at the root cause.

Don't buy into the right wing propaganda. Are you even aware of the magnitude of income/wealth inequality? Do you really believe that corporations are paying fair share of taxes? See few examples below of income inequality:

Quote:
Here are just a few facts about what is going on inside these corporations:

During the first four months of this year, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, saw his wealth increase by $275m – every single day. Bezos makes more wealth in 10 seconds than the median Amazon employee makes in a year. While Amazon paid no federal income taxes last year, it has been reported that one out of three Amazon workers in Arizona and 2,400 of its workers in Pennsylvania and Ohio rely on food stamps to feed their families.

Disney made $9bn in profits last year and gave its CEO Robert Iger a four-year compensation package worth up to $423m. Meanwhile, almost three-quarters of Disneyland workers say they don’t earn enough money to cover basic expenses every month, more than two-thirds are food insecure and more than one out of 10 report having been homeless over the last two years.

The average cashier at McDonald’s would have to work over 895 years to make what the company’s CEO, Steve Easterbrook, earns in one year. While McDonald’s had enough money to reward its wealthy shareholders with $7.7bn in stock buybacks and dividends, it reneged on a commitment it made to its low-wage workers to pay them at least $1 an hour above the local minimum wage.

US taxpayers are subsidizing Walmart’s low wages to the tune of at least $6.2bn each and every year. That makes the Walton family of Walmart, the wealthiest family in America, the largest welfare recipient in the country. Over the past five years, Walmart made over $70bn in profits and paid its CEO Doug McMillon nearly $23m last year – 1,188 times more than its median employee.

American Airlines is using $2bn of its profits over the next two years on stock buybacks and will pay its CEO, Doug Parker, up to $31m in total compensation this year. Meanwhile, many of its ticket agents at Envoy Air make as little as $9.48 an hour, forcing many of them to rely on taxpayer assistance to make ends meet.

KOMOLA wanted to prosecute poor families and charge them with fines and jail sentence for failing to send their children to school.

But most importantly, watch how she laughed/giggled at 35th second. This giggle exposes what a heartless person Kamala Harris is.

Tulsi Gabbard is showing how it should be done. She went full progressive in her launch speech. She even showed the courage to call out neocons and question Washington orthodoxy when it comes to US foreign policy, something that even Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren do not dare confront against.

Media is giving her no coverage and Tulsi knows that. Thus, I believe her strategy is to go full progressive and speak her mind - and she is correct. The age of strategist dependent politics is over. Now is the age of T20I. You have to see the ball, hit the ball. If you are wishy washy, you set yourself up for fail. Trump showed it in 2016. If democrats want to win, they must do the same. If Tulsi can stay true to her progressive beliefs and ideals and keep speaking about them passionately, she has the chance to go far.

Go Tulsi. BTHO frauds like KOMOLA and BOOKER.

It is Kamala Harris.

If you pronounce the name in pure Bangla, it is pronounced as KOMOLA কমলা। But of course the anglicized version is Kamala.

কমলা Komola in Bangla may also refer Mandarin orange (fruit).

Komola is also a folklore character.

Anyway, back to politics. KAMALA Harris must be beaten, and beaten soundly.

Thanks for the detailed explanation of her name. I have an aunt whose name is Kamla. I dunno if it's a variation of Kamala. We also call her Mala.

Klobuchar jumps into presidential race

Another plastic politician jumps into the race. Won't even receive a few hundred votes.

But I am happy. The more corporate democrats in the primary, the better. They will split whatever percentage of votes they receive, and it will brighten the chances of progressive candidates like Bernie, Tulsi, and Liz Warren (still doubtful about her, and not yet completely forgiven her for her betrayal in 2016).

This will be the field:

Corporatists: KOMOLA, Klobuchar, Gillibrand, Booker, Biden

Progressives: Tulsi, Bernie, Liz

The field is unlikely to get any bigger. Sherrod Brown might run. Beto O'Rourke - people have fallen out of love with this guy already - he probably won't run.

how do you define corporatists and progressives? I see these words (along with neo-liberal) thrown around a lot but I am sure a lot of us will struggle to answer them.

btw, didn't Tulsi Gabbard had a huge issue with gay marriage and LGBT rights in the past? She has also supported/praised military regimes in Egypt and condemned UN's "unfair" treatment of Israeli settlements.

meanwhile, two new muslim congresswoman are finding it hard to survive. Ilhan Omar's tweets drew rebukes from both democrats and republicans. nothing brings both parties in US together closer than the love of Israel. they fight all day over rights of mother or children being born (abortion), immigration, economy, social justices BUT when it comes to Israel both parties are united as ever.

any criticism of Israeli gov't or lobbyist is automatically termed as anti-semitic.

her comments on AIPAC was always a open secret in political spheres. AIPAC lobbies and injects huge sums of money.

"Kamala Harris says she listened to Snoop Dogg, Tupac while smoking weed in college years before they made music"

.... she must be still smoking ganga.

Ganga khoor Komola
Spartacus Booker
Pocahonta Elizabeth

Which one will be the perfect match for Donald Duck?

Why are politicians always dragged through the mud for reasons that in no way shape of form impact their ability to rule the country?

For example, how does recreational use of weed once in highschool matter ? Or even having consentual sex outside marriage impact a person's ability to rule? I am not supporting drugs or sex but these are personal matter to be discussed with in the family only.

True in general.

However:

- For Kamala she dragged it by herself by telling it to the public. May be she thought it will be cool and relevant to say that.

- For Booker, he claimed himself as Spartacus during high court judge hearing.

- For Elizabeth, she claimed herself that she is a decedent of red Indian.

For all those three cases, nobody digged their past dirt, they did it by themselves,
