BCB introduces new domestic one-day tournament

The BCB's tournament committee has introduced a new one-day tournament, as a part of the Bangladesh Cricket League, which will take place before Pakistan tour Bangladesh in April. The four-team competition has been introduced to facilitate the Bangladesh team's preparation ahead of Pakistan's tour that is scheduled to begin on April 15.

The List-A tournament will be played in a league format where the four teams will face each other once. The top two teams of the table will then qualify for the final. All the matches will be day-night and played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium or the Fatullah Cricket Stadium.

"The BCL one-day tournament will begin in the first week of April and conclude by April 11 with the final game," Akram Khan, the tournament committee chairman, said.

The BCL has four zonal teams with only the North Zone being financially backed by the BCB, the other three are backed by Walton (Central Zone), Prime Bank (South Zone) and Islami Bank (East Zone).

Akram said that the decision to run the new tournament was due to the demand of the three franchises for national cricketers.

"The franchises usually want national cricketers, so since we are first playing the ODI series against Pakistan, we thought of introducing this new tournament," he said.

Good initiative. Hope it becomes a permanent fixture of the domestic calendar. Smart to have it just before the Pakistan series. Good opportunity for the likes of Liton, Rony and Mustafizur to carry on their recent form and push for a NT call-up.

No doubt its a Good initiative but last yeas we had 4 day tournament and this year 50 over match. FC was the best idea. But they have to scrap the idea probably due to time constrain.

I think Jubair Ahmed in the East Zone squad is actually Likhon. I don't know of any Jubair Ahmed. If that's not the case then another poor decision and one that might have been done to spite the coach after his interview.

Are you sure that Mustafizur is not picked for U-19 series against SA U-19 which is going to be held at the same time? Otherwise, it would be a blunder!

Mr. Sowkat Khan is too kind. His 45 years of cricket watching experience has given him mostly nothing. I suggest he goes back in memory lane and see how cricketers are influenced the most. Criticizing helps nothing. His take on Shakib and Imrul show immaturity. Shakib did average 39. That is 3rd highest in the team. Was he expecting him to average 50 on an away tour? Replace any other opener for Imrul. Same results would have happened with the NZ swing bowling. Heck if Anamul was healthy, we would be criticizing him to no end for his inability of rotating strike. Until players like Liton are given chances, he needs to start criticizing the selectors and NOT the players.

Too many deadweights in those squads, players who would never play and succeed for BD team and dont have the talent or temperament . I would rather see young players like Mustafizur and Mosaddek in there. Poor squad selections

Central looks the strongest for batting... Rony, Majid, Riyad, Hom, Marshal, Shamsur.... That's a killer lineup.

On the other hand South basically has the old national XI bowling attack with Mash, Rubel, Al Amin, Raj, Gazi, Enamul...

North Zone has been weakened by moving Liton, who is in red-hot form and is actually from Dinajpur, to East Zone whereas SZ get to keep all their players and are strengthened by the inclusion of one the best young players in the country in Mosaddek Hossain who should have been playing for CZ.

true.. but South Zone is still very strong. I can understand why Mustafizur didnt make that XI as it is loaded with international seamers...And North Zone isnt that weak but shouldve had Shuvashish who performed well for Abahani recently

চারজনের গায়ে চার রকম জার্সি। চারজন কথা বললেন চার দলের হয়ে। অথচ এই চারজনই কদিন আগে একসঙ্গে খেলে এসেছেন বিশ্বকাপ। একই জার্সি গায়ে ছিলেন একই পতাকাতলে।

বাংলাদেশ দল বিশ্বকাপ খেলে দেশে ফিরেছে গত ২২ মার্চ। ১৭ এপ্রিল থেকে শুরু পাকিস্তান সিরিজের অনুশীলনের আগ পর্যন্ত সময়টা বিশ্রামে কাটানোর কথা ছিল ক্রিকেটারদের। কিন্তু বিসিবির ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা বিভাগের প্রধান আকরাম খানের ভাষায় ‘পরিস্থিতির দাবি’তে আজ থেকেই তাঁদের আবার নেমে পড়তে হচ্ছে মাঠে। উপলক্ষ বিসিএলের ওয়ানডে আসর।

বিসিবির মিডিয়া জোনে কাল এই টুর্নামেন্ট সূচক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে উপস্থিত হয়েছিলেন প্রাইম ব্যাংক দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের অধিনায়ক মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা, ওয়ালটন মধ্যাঞ্চলের অধিনায়ক মাহমুদউল্লাহ, বিসিবি উত্তরাঞ্চলের অধিনায়ক নাসির হোসেন ও ইসলামী ব্যাংক পূর্বাঞ্চলের মুমিনুল হক। মুমিনুল অবশ্য পূর্বাঞ্চলের অধিনায়ক নন। অধিনায়ক তামিম ইকবাল ওমরাহ হজ করতে যাওয়ায় তাঁর বিকল্প হিসেবে এসেছিলেন তিনি।

প্রথম শ্রেণির ক্রিকেটের আসর হিসেবেই শুরু বিসি‌এলের। কিন্তু পাকিস্তান সিরিজ ওয়ানডে দিয়ে শুরু হচ্ছে বলে তার আগে জাতীয় দলের ক্রিকেটারদের দীর্ঘ পরিসরের ম্যাচ খেলা যুক্তিযুক্ত মনে করেনি বিসিবি। ওদিকে ফ্র্যাঞ্চাইজিগুল� � আবার জাতীয় দলের খেলোয়াড়দের ছাড়া খেলবে না। এ রকম পরিস্থিতিতে সব কুল রক্ষা করতেই জন্ম বিসিএলের ওয়ানডে টুর্নামেন্টটির। মিরপুর শেরেবাংলা স্টেডিয়াম ও ফতুল্লার খান সাহেব ওসমান আলী স্টেডিয়ামে দিবারাত্রির এই ওয়ানডে টুর্নামেন্ট হবে সিঙ্গেল লিগ পদ্ধতিতে। দর্শকদের জন্য উন্মুক্ত এই টুর্নামেন্টের শীর্ষ দুই দল মিরপুরে ফাইনাল খেলবে ১১ এপ্রিল। এরপর এক সপ্তাহের বিরতি দিয়ে শুরু হওয়ার কথা বিসিএল চার দিনের ম্যাচের আসর। পাকিস্তান সিরিজের দলে থাকা খেলোয়াড়েরা খেলবেন না তাতে।

হঠাৎ করে বিসিএল ওয়ানডে হচ্ছে বলে বিশ্বকাপ আর পাকিস্তান সিরিজের মাঝে বিশ্রাম একটু কম হয়ে গেছে বলে মানছেন ক্রিকেটাররা। তবে সেটা নিয়ে কারও অভিযোগ নেই। বরং পাকিস্তান সিরিজের আগে এ রকম একটা উদ্যোগকে সবাই স্বাগতই জানাচ্ছেন। মধ্যাঞ্চল অধিনায়ক মাহমুদউল্লাহ যেমন বললেন, ‘আমি মনে করি এটা সবার জন্য ভালো একটা সুযোগ। জাতীয় দলে ঢোকার দরজাটা সবার জন্য খোলা থাকল। পাকিস্তান সিরিজের আগে আমাদের প্রস্তুতিটাও ভালো হবে এতে।’
দুই মাস অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় কাটিয়ে আসার পর হোম সিরিজ খেলার আগে এ রকম একটা টুর্নামেন্টের অন্য গুরুত্বও দেখছেন দক্ষিণাঞ্চল অধিনায়ক মাশরাফি, ‘পাকিস্তান সিরিজের আর দেরি নেই। এখন আবার মাঠে ফেরা দরকার। তা ছাড়া অস্ট্রেলিয়া-নিউজিল্যান্ডের বিশ্বকাপের জন্য আমরা চার-পাঁচ মাস ধরে ও ধরনের কন্ডিশনের কথা মাথায় রেখে অনুশীলন করেছি। আবার দেশের মাটিতে খেলার প্রস্তুতি নিতেও বিসিএল কাজে লাগবে।’
সে জন্য অবশ্য বিসিএল ওয়ানডেতে স্পোর্টিং উইকেট আশা করছেন জাতীয় দলের ওয়ানডে অধিনায়ক মাশরাফি, ‘আমরা প্রমাণ করেছি স্পোর্টিং উইকেটে আমরা ভালো খেলি। কাজেই ফর্মটা ধরে রাখতে হলেও স্পোর্টিং উইকেট দেওয়া উচিত।’

বিসিএল চার দিনের ম্যাচে গতবারের চ্যাম্পিয়ন দক্ষিণাঞ্চল। ওয়ানডে টুর্নামেন্টটা এবারই প্রথম হলেও সেই আত্মবিশ্বাস তাদের সঙ্গী। তবে চার দলের এই টুর্নামেন্টে শিরোপায় চোখ সবারই। মুশফিকুর রহিম অধিনায়কত্ব করতে চাননি বলে উত্তরাঞ্চলের নেতৃত্ব পাওয়া নাসির বললেন, ‘আমরা চ্যাম্পিয়ন হওয়ার জন্যই খেলব। দলের কম্বিনেশন অনেক ভালো। ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ দল। সবচেয়ে ভালো আমাদের ফিল্ডিং।’ তামিমের বিকল্প হিসেবে আসা পূর্বাঞ্চল প্রতিনিধি মুমিনুলের কণ্ঠেও আশাবাদ, ‘আমাদের দল ভালো হয়েছে। ইনশা আল্লাহ, মাঠেও আমরা ভালো খেলব।’

এবারের বিসিবিএল ওয়ানডে ‘পরিস্থিতির দাবি’ মেটাতে হলে ভালো সাড়া পেলে এবং ফ্র্যাঞ্চাইজিরা রাজি হলে ভবিষ্যতেও এটি হতে পারে বলে জানালেন আকরাম খান। ওয়ালটন মধ্যাঞ্চল ফ্র্যাঞ্চাইজির কর্মকর্তা উদয় হাকিম ও ইসলামী ব্যাংক পূর্বাঞ্চলের কর্মকর্তা কামাল উদ্দিন সংবাদ সম্মেলনেই জানিয়ে দিলেন এ ব্যাপারে তাঁদের আগ্রহের কথা। উদয় বললেন, ‘চার দিনের ম্যাচ, ওয়ানডে এবং টি-টোয়েন্টি—আমরা বিসিবিকে এই তিন ফরম্যাটেই বিসিএল আয়োজন করা যায় কি না, সেটি ভেবে দেখার প্রস্তাব দিচ্ছি।’

বিসিএল ওয়ানডেতে পুরস্কারের অঙ্কটা ভালোই। চ্যাম্পিয়ন দল পাবে ১৫ লাখ টাকা ও রানার্সআপ ৭ লাখ টাকা। প্রতি ম্যাচের ম্যান অব দ্য ম্যাচের পুরস্কার ২৫ হাজার টাকা ও ম্যান অব দ্য টুর্নামেন্ট ১ লাখ। থাকছে ম্যাচ ফিও। সেটি জাতীয় দলের ক্রিকেটারদের জন্য ৫০ হাজার টাকা ও জাতীয় দলের বাইরের ক্রিকেটারদের জন্য ৩০ হাজার।

Leg-spinner, Jubair Hossain, who missed out on the World Cup squad, will be one such player who will want to make the most of this competition. There were talks about how he just missed out on a World Cup berth two months ago and he will want to make amends.

what the hell govt has been doing for past 5 years... they are giving license to same typical bulls**t cahnnel like mohona, bijoy tv... but still no sign of a sports channel
