I hope Organizing committee can finish all their remaining work within the deadline. Do not wanna see same scenario like India is facing ahead of Commonwealth Games.

ok, this is not 2011 WC related but I thought I should share it. Good news for BD cricket.
New stadium in Cox's Bazar finally happening. BCB is finalizing the place and they will start the real work from next year, they want to make the spectator capacity around 12K. The stadium will be one of the venue for T20 WC 2014!

Doria Nagar should be the place. Near Himchori and away from the chaos of the main city. Don't want it near the airport.

Just saw BNS in the news clip as national football team were having their training session for the Asian Games, in naked eyes it seemed around 90% of the renovation work is completed. And I must say it really looks pretty impressive now, especially the seats looked world class!

BNS renovation almost complete
The Daily Star, November 3, 2010

The renovation and modernisation of the Bangabandhu National Stadium ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2011 ICC World Cup is at its final phase as 85 per cent of the work has already been completed.

Some 24,000 chairs at the galleries and a giant screen have been installed, floodlights have been renovated and the media center and car parking facilities have also been upgraded.

About 85 per cent of work at the hospitality and VIP boxes have been completed. Apart from that the three gates, parking shed for VIPs and installation of CCTVs are going on in full swing.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarker was informed about these progresses yesterday when he visited the country's premium venue, which will hold the opening ceremony of the World Cup on February 17.

Sarker expressed his satisfaction over the pace of work while Abdur Rahman, director (planning and development) of National Sports Council, said 85 percent work at BNS have already been completed and hoped to hand over the venue before the deadline of November 30.

He also informed that BNS will have a capacity of 26,000 spectators including the VIPs as some 31.06 crore taka is being spent on the renovation and modernisation of the stadium.

During the visit to BNS, the sports minister also met with national football team, who have been preparing for the Asian Games at the stadium. Sarker also talked to track and field athletes.

Will they remove the red track? Or it stays?

This is so stupid. When the other govt was here, they closed it down, and this one comes back and reopens it just because it named after "it's" dad. Ya, lets just go back and forth. Story of Bangladesh

They could have upgraded all the cricket venue in the country to international standard with this money. What a wastage of money!!

Much work remains in Chittagong

Mohammad Isam and Pranabesh Chakraborty
Construction sites are never pleasing to the eye, especially in a sports venue where the deadline is looming. The International Cricket Council (ICC) will send a delegation in mid-December to inspect the 2011 World Cup venues and in all likelihood, even at that time the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong will remain unfinished.
Questions were raised about the ground's readiness to host the two one-dayers between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe next month, but those look to be answered as the players' dressing room, although bare, has been reconstructed while the media centre looks ready. The main concern remains with the eastern galleries, which have not been made ready yet.
It would be impossible to expect that side of the ground, from the left of the media centre right up to one corner of the VIP stand, will remain under construction when the Zimbabweans play or when the ICC comes to inspect.
The chance of a large crowd for the two one-dayers against Zimbabwe will further be reduced due to additional security concerns. “The number of tickets issued will depend on security clearance. The bottom part [of the eastern stand] might be ready for the fans but we have to think about their safety too. If that stand is sanctioned by the authorities, then it can happen,” said an official, who requested anonymity.
The capacity of the stadium could be just over 20,000 after the seats have been installed, further shrinking the chance of many cricket-loving fans in the port city that are eager to see the Tigers in action.
According to the official, though work started as early as April this year, the pace has been slow because a large number of government bodies are involved. A water crisis in the stadium may not be avoided as the location of the stadium (at one corner of Chittagong city) is making it difficult to connect to a water line.
The stretch of road leading to the stadium is also a cause for concern as the waste from the huge cattle market, on that road, has not yet been removed.
At the moment, the Tigers are training on good pitches and practice facilities inside the ground and are enjoying a newly-laid outfield but they are being provided with a canopy for a dressing-room and the bathroom, as pointed out by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, is outside the ground in the indoor practice area. “Everything is fine, the wicket, the practice facilities, the outfield and I also think it's a good place they have managed for us to rest. The only problem is that the toilet is outside,” said Mashrafe, who was not the only one to raise concern about the ground.
A good number of national players were heard enquiring about the completion of the stands and every question had the standard answer: “The dressing room and press box will be ready for the Zimbabwe series but the rest will be done before the World Cup.”
