Somewhat politically incorrect but I am just curious about ma fellow brethrens and cisterns inner mentality.

Yes. ^

Plz mod bhayera correct my mistakes, it'd be appreciated. I meant "A" BC...study not "An"

Btw in all my honesty today I found out that I mostly support a team because of their sub continent race. nzfan, cameron, bharat, gowza and other foreign posters please feel free to voice out your opinions too.

well, your poll choices need some expanding...

how about Location? i used to live in Florida, and i used to be a die hard Miami Heat Fan until they won the NBA title with Shaq and Wade in 2006...after that i stopped following the NBA and God knows why...

how about Environment? i mean i go to school, majority likes yankees i like yankees too... there is no rational reason behind supporting a team except maybe because that is how you grew up into being integrated into society. people who support similar causes gives someone a sense of identity, a sense of being, a sense of belonging, a sense of friendship, a sense of happiness...this is why one supports sports or any other activity with cultural value(at least this is how i understand life in general)

Beside Bangladesh team, which is beyond and above any reasons, i'd for a team that i hv affiliation with and hence voted no 3.

I was a big supporter of Australia to begin with, and then i lived there for 6.5 years.
That certainly brings my closeness and soft corner for the country i once called home and know so many people, have so many freinds. Certainly that plays a big role in supporting them.

Otherwise, it would be a team with players i like. Eg, i was a supported of WI, mainly, due to BC Lara for a long time. Even before i went to Aus, i was a big supporter cuz of Mark Waugh and Shane Warne, and then came Gilchrist, Hayden et all.

Religion/race never played a part in my liking. I'd hate to differentiate teams based on thier colour of skin or certain faith. We non-white people cry out "racism" every chance we get, but i think in many cases, we committ the same crime we are subjected to.

in soccer in africa, i always support morocco/tunisia - for good reasons!
in soccer in aisa, i support iraq, because george bush can kiss my toilet floor!

Abahoni Limited - cricket, football, hockey, handball, chess, ludu, kho kho, keram,
Brazil - Soccer
Australia
West Tigers and Bulldogs - NRL (national rugby league in sydney)

It may have to do with upbringing. I lived in South Africa for a while and there I had to undergo tauntings and teasings of racial slur which left some psychological scar that causes me to choose a country for it's race (I am talking cricket here). Plus, I feel a sense of belonging (as rifat beautifully said in his mature post) when rooting for sub-continent teams and also considering them as underdogs who are not privy to resources and physical structures like the players of first world countries.

Who knows, may be if I lived in South Africa long enuff, the race would be an anciliary issue and I might have rooted for that country like step-mother land.

In yesterday's game, for me it was McCullum (one of my favorite player) vs. the whole Indian team. So yeah, the options are bit sketchy.

When I went to UAE there was this magazine that came out in Sharjah where they discussed similar issues like the crowd's penchant for supporting teams based on race or one hemisphere vs. another...etc.

Other. It's actually more complicated than many people think.

Going into a game, I calculate win probabilities for teams based upon various factors including current form, underground bookie information, private investigation leaks and so on. I pick the team that will yield the highest return on my investments to betting agencies.
