I hope BCB is happy with this. When the governing body is so unprofessional that they force an injured player to play a tournament, it's no wonder Afghanistan are catching up.

I am sorry, but management (I think Papon shaheb) said it was of volition Shakib played. It would be terribly unfair to blame them otherwise.

Gotta feel bad for Shakib... I always thought Shakib is a very selfish kind. But from the news I am have been reading.. he is in some serious pain right now... and it would have been so much better for him to just sit out the tournament but he made took a huge chance.

Hope he is under the best treatment and feels better soon

Sorry to me it sounds like lip service from Papon because he clearly wanted Shakib to play even though he seemed reluctant at first but since his boss wanted him to play he did.

What a surprise. Dr. Paopn must be super happy.

Just glad it didn't turned to anything worse.

Hopefully it won't be career ending

What a joke, he really was 20% fit

If he was going to play, should have rested him until the final

Sakib out for 3 months... he will miss Zimbabwe and West Indies series... which is fine with me ... he needed a rest after long journey of his career.... hopefully he comes back with bang to the newzeland series and most importantly the World Cup. Hope he recover soon and spent time with family.
Tamim will miss the Zimbabwe series....
Musfiq might play, because he’s a fighter and gotta score some runs.

Thanks god that Doctor in Dhaka detected the issue. I can't imagine he was close to having his wrist paralyzed for good

Who the eff is this ****er Hasan Nazmul?

Quote:
After playing the T20I series against Afghanistan and the full West Indies tour from June to August, Shakib said that he needed the finger surgery before the Asia Cup. But hours later, Hassan suggested that he may as well "play and the endure the pain [as he had done for the past six months]."

It was Shakib's decision but Papon and the physio definitely had a part to change his mind. Thank god the infection did not get worse and didn't compromise his whole wrist.

It's Papon. Nazmul Hassan Papon.
Oh the puppet master.

I read the article and could have felt the pain Shakib felt. This is serious business man.

The physio needs to be fired. What kind of idiot is that guy. He should have sent Shakib out of the squad to get treatment

The physio must be fired.
First someone needs to check his qualifications.
Such level of amateurism is beyond imagination.

By the way, it is interesting to note that some "fans" questioned Shakib's commitment in this forum after he himself said he was only 20%-30% fit.

I agree I think the physio's role here needs to be re-evaluated. I do not think the delay in his surgery was the problem. If similar injury happened to a non athlete they probably wouldn't do surgery to begin with and just live with it if it doesn't interfere with their regular activities. I think the problem was that physio didn't think the possibility of an infection (which i think happened fairly recently) and perhaps thought his pain was part of his previous injury and not a new sign. I am just a bit surprised (if it was intentional or not) that he flew to dhaka and then went to hospital instead of going to a hospital in Dubai which again suggest a fail by the physio as it would be emergent. I think it should have been pretty obvious the extent of infection that they are describing streaking all the way up to his wrist and that they extracted pus. I don't think it spread during his 4 hours flight in the plane.

It sucks that it is in his bowling hand. I hope he recovers well and then when it is time he can undergo that elective surgery. Some of the surgeons servicing Bangladesh cricket have done some good job specially on Mashrafee. Shakib has the whole world's prayer that he comes back to international scene fully fit.

No one is gonna trust this physio now. I think his role with Bangladesh cricket team should be over. Unless there are some other things in the timeline of things that I am missing. It's the right move.

The bigger question is if the injury happened in January why didn't he have the operation after that series ? Why did he let it drag knowing the busy and important schedule during the next 6 months of the year. He could have missed the IPL, I think he played lot of matches in the IPL this year. How come this escaped the attention of the physios over there as well, they could have told him to get it operated soon.

This operation should have happened right away , I don't know whose decision was it to carry on with this for the majority of the year

He did, but the operation wasn't successful

Didn't notice this thread posted in a different one. Based on the chain of events, both physio and Papon should be held accountable.

Decisions on health should be make by the player and his physician(s) only.

My question is, if Shakib was not playing with an open wound, how did it get infected?
