Default Player substituting in One day games

Player Substituting in One Day games

There is a proposal by the ICC for a law change allowing a player (batsman/bowler) to be substituted during the One Day games. Will it be more helpful for Bangladesh then some other Test playing nations?

Bangladesh still occasionally suffers from batting collapses. Substituting a reliable batsman in that case may slow down the collapse and let the team score more. Or depending on the situation, substituting a spinner with a pacer or vice versa may help check the run rate of the opposition.

What do you guys think ?

It's one day cricket. They can do whatever they want as long as they leave test cricket alone.

Sometimes Bangladesh suffering with the bowling too . India vs Bangladesh the last odi they played .......... Was big score by India so , bowling is not good either in odi and main thing is our bowler's economy rate in the odi , none of them has a decent avg ... Look at Tapash , way expensive .......

The CC also recommended the introduction of soccer-style substitutes for international cricket wherein a player could be replaced at any stage of a match but would then be ruled out for the remainder of the match. Both the substitute and the substituted player would receive a cap and the replacement could happen at any stage of the match, including during a batting innings.
Sounds interesting to me. Let see how it goes with Super Series.

May 18: A substitute system could be introduced to one-day internationals under radical recommendations from an International Cricket Council committee.

The proposal was part of a package of ideas aimed at increasing the attraction of the limited overs game.

"The biggest change that we're recommending is the 12-man team," said Sunil Gavaskar, committee chairman.

"The on-field players must not exceed 11, but a captain can substitute a player who he feels is not doing well."

Gavaskar added that the change in rules would be more in line with other sports.

"It could be anybody - a wicket-keeper, batsman, fielder or a bowler.

"It will add more thrill to the game and at the same time will give a captain more tactics to play with," he added.

"For instance, if a player is batting too slowly, he can replace him. But the new batsman will start afresh and the batsman who has been replaced will be considered retired on his individual score."

"Similarly, if a bowler is replaced, say for instance, after five overs, the new bowler will bowl the sixth over.

"Each of bowler will have his own bowling figures. The 12-man team can be effective both in terms of tactics and injury to a player."

The recommendations will be considered by the ICC's chief executive's committee meeting in London at the end of June.

Changes in field restrictions were also suggested in Tuesday's meeting.

"We have decided to have 20-over field restrictions instead of 15 currently being used," Gavaskar added.

"The first 10 overs are mandatory at the start of the innings while the fielding captain will have the option of using the rest 10 - five in each lot - whenever he wants to.

"The idea is to try and get away from the predictability of the game, have more excitement and give more tactical advantage to the fielding captain," he said.

The committee also recommended that on-field umpires could consult the TV umpire whenever there was doubt - for example, over lbw or bat-pad catching - rather than just for line decisions.

"All these recommendations will be used on trial basis during the Johnny Walker Super Series in Australia," Gavaskar said.

share that sentiment too. Don't touch test cricket.
In fact I would,nt mind seeing more razzmatazz while they are at it. Why not earphone/comm between batsman and coach or captain and coach as in Am football.

The proposed change is quite significant enough and would make Oneday games much more interesting, which might have negative effects on the popularity of Test matches.

One Day Cricket has always been for the spectators. Thats why it was invented in the first place. The better the entertainment the better the crowd and TV rights it will pull and better the revenue. So yeah why not make the game more interesting.

The Sub system is interesting indeed, I really wanna see how that works. I always thought the 12th man had a bad deal in a match. Just fielding isnt fair. Now he can bat and bowl. Good for him!

The two 5-overs blocks after the initial 10 overs will make the game interesting as well. IMO.
