Soumya should open the innings.
Soumya looked more fluent than both the openers and picked up the run rate after a very slow start by BD. The present openers are neither scoring boundaries nor rotating strike efficiently. Tamim looks unfit and Anamul sole purpose seems to self preservation of his wicket so that he can throw it away at a more opportune time. Also his footwork is a bit tentative.
So far the difference between other teams and BD is that other teams are not getting bogged down in powerplay. Even if the boundaries are bigger they keep rotating strike which BD openers are incapable of. Then in order to increase the run rate they try to slog and lose wickets in the process. It causes added pressure on the middle order. Not every time Shakib and mushy can play blinders of innings. As Tamim can't be dropped (bcz his once in a blue moon innings is due soon), Soumya should open in the next match against Aus. At this moment no body is giving a chance to BD against Aus so the new opening pair can be tried. And even if it turns out to be a rain curtailed draw, better opportunity than this will not come.

Too much of a gamble on a young untested player. The world cup is no place for such experimentation.

I think coming at 3 is fine. Need a L/R combo up top and dont see any change with Tamim.
I think ideally we bring in Nasir instead of mominul or we force our batsman to play with greater freedom.

going with our current openers is a triple blow at the moment. They cannot rotate strike, they cannot up the tempo and they cannot score big runs.

The opening pair hasn't been working for many months. Even if soumya gets a quickfire 30 it will be an improvement at the opening slot. Right now anamul is scoring 20s and wasting deliveries.
You can't keep on doing the same things and expect different results.that's insanity. Persisting with the present opening pair will be an insanity.

Unfortunately we don't have any back up opener here in squad but management can try sarker and he would be better out of form Anamul.

Agree with OP. Reason Tamim-Anamul pair opening makes sense is because Anamul is supposed to play the sheet anchor role and Tamim the aggressor. Can't have both openers stuck in preservation mode for 15-20 overs. First 5 overs I can understand but not beyond that. This needs to be communicated to them in team meetings. If they can't make it work Soumya should take Anamul's place.

It's painful to watch Tamim and Anamul open together and then Riyad at #4. That creates too much pressure to the rest of the team.
Understand Sarkar is relatively new. But for lack of any other alternative, Sarkar need to open instead of Anamul or Tamim.
Momin was misused today while we let Riyad continue to screw up the RR long enough and then perish (like Tamim and Anamul).
We cannot have these three stooge all bat in top 4 positions. That will screw up any hope for a win in most of the games. They play selfish game, they stay too long and screw up the RR for too long and then they perish.
These are batting friendly fields and we are expected to score 280+ game in game out. How can we achieve the target when our three stooge waste around 150 balls and cannot even cross SR 50 ?

Absolutely no need for that yet. Its was just the first game. They (Tamim-Anam) got 47 runs together and there was no early fall of wicket which was absolutely crucial. What needs to be done though is get their RBW and the calling sorted out. They were diabolical today. Also, ask them to start looking for runs after the first 5 overs. Tamim must play a bit more of his natural game. But, initially, they must take more singles. This was the very first game so obviously everyone would have been a little nervous. I think they will do better.
Soumya is okay where he is now. We must back Anam who has big international innings under his belt. Tamim the best ever opener we have had. Not one for many chopping and changing. Though, Momin over Nasir is a bizarre choice, to say the least.

At the cost of 15-20 over? Against top team the match will all over by then. Shommanjonok score like 240-250 never gonna work against them. Even 250 will be hard to achieve from there because of the quality of their bowling attack. They have played together for a while maybe like almost for 2 year. How many time they have give us a good start? 2 or 3 times at best. All they do is create unnecessary pressure for later batsman. They couldn't do it against zim last series, they couldn't do it against afg today. How they are gonna do that against Aus,Nz or England with the pace attack they have?
They best they are gonna do is 80-0 after the end of 25-30 over.

Accept the reality, bro. Anam and Tamim are no Warner and Finch. And, the likes of W and F are doing it in their home conditions, too. I think around 45 runs in the 1st PP is a very good start providing we don't lose a wicket. Even 80 runs at the end of 20 overs is still good. We saw the benefits of having wickets in hand today during the Mushy and Shakib partnership. What wasn#t perfect today was Tamim, Anam and Riyad were a little slow to score or rotate. If they can improve on this then we should be okay. Going to the last batting PP with 5 or 6 wickets down means 1) we will not be able to score freely like today 2) getting bowled out before the 45th over.
Think about it and be realistic.

You also have to take the pitch into account. Not every pitch is 300 one. And, then even the same pitch on different days can be slightly different, too.

Next match is against Australia. Still I want Anamul to warm the bench. Bring in Nasir. Move up Sarkar. We still bat 8 deep.
From the post match interview Mushi and Mash praised the opener. ??????? We score the second slowest ever (67 in 20 overs) and they praised the openers. So most likely no change for the next game. The Scotland game we may see a change.
Shakib and Mushfique is not going to click everyday. Plus one must consider the opponents a well.

At Gabba, we need to pick all four pacers, and someone need to be dropped to make space for Al Amin. Also, as someone already pointed out, we can't afford to have Tamim, Anam, Riyad all three in the line-up, to choke our scoring rate. I am willing to give Tamim an excuse as he is returning from injury. So, it totally makes sense to me, to drop Anam and to let Soumya open with Tamim.

Top post by Fazal. Fully agree that having 3 dot ball magnets in the top 4 is ridiculous!

Here's the statistics for them in the last 2 year ( Opening Partnership only)
Against all opposition
Played : 13 match
Total run scored: 486
Highest Score : 158
Avg: 37.38
RR: 4.10
100+ partnership : 2
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...ype=5;type=fow
Against Top Teams (G8)
Match played : 7
Total run scored: 120
Highest Score : 44
Avg: 17.14
RR: 3.71
100+ partnership : 0
50+ partnership : 0
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...ype=5;type=fow
Now its clear their overall stats against all team look good because of those two 100+ partnership against probably zim.
If you are still hopeful of a win with this opening partnership against top teams in tough away conditions i don't know what to say.
Note: I got to say i'm also surprised.Man they are really bad. We really need to try something new.

How anyone in their right mind can suggest dropping Anamul before Tamim from the ODI side is beyond me. Anamul and Tamim's overall ODI records, last 12 months record, and even today's performance suggests Anamul is CLEARLY the superior ODI batsman. Not to mention he is a better fielder, and a backup wicketkeeper.

We should have a rotation policy.
Like play a new opener (or old opener in form) every 3 months keeping Tamim at the other end.

The ground we played was not batting friendly.

I watched the whole Bangladesh innings, there was no gremlin in the pitch. Cooler weather during the Afghan innings prolly helped Mash to swing the ball a bit, but that did not seem to be the case during our innings.
Because of the size of the ground, clearing the boundary was difficult, but finding single was not.

Anamul lack of footwork is a concern. He was lucky to have his SR close to 60% before getting out. We are missing a versatile player like Nasir. I guess the openers did well in not losing a wicket, but that is a pretty low bar.
