Bangladesh usually do well where there is no expectation. I get a feeling Bangladesh may pleasantly surprise many people in this test match. I expect some fight from the tigers. I hope they have the balls to comeback strong after such a shameless performance in the third odi.

If the practice wickets offered any hints the pitch might aid the seam bowlers a little more than Hamilton, Auckland, Napier and Queenstown. The Bangladeshi batsmen concentrated on getting the balance between stroke-playing and leaving the balls and with the Mashrafe Mortaza and Sajedul Islam in particular swinging the ball both ways and the one-day habits popping out of the blue every now and then, the task wasn’t easy.

“Today it was more a case of getting used to the wicket and playing out the deliveries. The ball tends to stop a little and doesn’t come on to the bat at pace. Playing in the V is probably a better option on this wicket,” said Shahriar Nafees Ahmed, one of the three players to have flown in as reinforcement for the Test side.

The tourists would surely be facing a barrage of short-pitched deliveries also and Habibul Bashar, with a reputation to uphold as an accomplished player of the short ball, knows that all too well.

“You can’t help it if they keep bowling short. You smack it if you can or you leave it alone, that’s my philosophy. But I guess the balls pitched up are more difficult to face than the short ones,” said Bashar.

“My New Year’s resolution revolves around seeing the team better its Test record and become more competitive in this form of the game. It’s fair to admit that we haven’t improved as expected in Tests in the last eight years,” said captain Mohammad Ashraful. Four draws and a solitary win in 49 appearances is reason enough for Ashraful’s anxiety to get a move on.

If Sajid is not picked, I think Reza is a sure shot to provide some seaming alternatives to go with his batting. That is a safety first approach and after the devastation of the 3rd ODI, won't be surprised at all if that is the case.

I think this would be the team if the newspapers are correctly talking about "Siddons influence"

SN
Tamim
HaBa
Junaed
Ash
Aftab
Mushy
Aftab
Razzak
Sajjadul
Mash
Shahadat

too bad three debutants,,,,,,,........ I missing Rafique dearly. I think Razzak is still missing few tricks, Rafique would have been fantastic . I mean, true Rafique havn't played good in NCL, but still it was quite foolish to drop him for the test series. we still need one more year of rafique.

Apart from 2 Aftabs the lineup seems good. Hope they perform and shut up those big mouths blowing hard after 3rd ODI.
come on Tigers...

my feelings...though this pitch has more demons than we've ever faced.

good thing is, the law of averages. ash has lost 3 straight tosses, and there is only a 6% chance of losing 4 straight...so hopefully he wins, and we put kiwis into bat.

best chance of prolonging the match and easing pressure from our side.

Prolong match = Match >4 days;
Prolong match = Javed Omar;
1st Test - Javed Omar = Match - 1 day
(Match - 1 day )- 11 * ( Batsman form) = Match 2.5 days

Got the equation?

Well the problem is when he goes out to toss in the first test match, there is 50 percent chance of losing that particular toss.

We just cannot afford to bat first tommorow, our tigers will get some confidence after NZ puts a non-intimidating total of this satan of a pitch.

Got the equation?
According to your logic, with JO in the team we bat for nearly 90 more overs. Assuming JO faces 50% of those extra delivers, he surely always faces 270 deliveries more in every test compared to other openers.

Now find out how often he lasted 270 deliveries more than the other openers.

Unless we win the toss, put them to bat and we get to follow-on.

I would've done the same, unless I didn't develop the habit of not touching the screen since last few months.
