I think Riyad has finally proven to me that he can step up to a top 5 spot, but we still have holes. If no suitable candidate appears, I'm perfectly fine with selectors giving Ash an extended run at some position and throw the dice.
That's still the problem. Not enough players raising their hands. And we saw how bad Junaid, Nazim, and SN were. I'm sure Ash would've been better since he at least has technique to save him which the others can't say. And since its an away tour, they might go for experience. Even though our ODIS side looks good, lets not forget that our Test side got slammed. So he'll definitely be in talks of being in the side as a #3 for Tests.

if Ashraful does make it to the test XI against Sri Lanka then i would prefer him as an opener, Anamul to follow for #3.

I am not yet fully convinced, let Ashraful score another ton then we will talk....

Honestly I don't think Ashraful deserves a chance...not unless he either hits a double or hits another century + a fifty or two in the BCL. That being said, he's got "experience", and that unbridled "talent" that is so rare. I would pick him because after all these years, his batting still gives me that "what if?" tingle up my spine. We don't really have anyone else, and we should give him a long run in a single format to see if he can get us a good start. I think he can open with Tamim or come in at first drop if Anam opens (preferably the former).

Until and unless we develop better top order batsmen, we'll see Ash back in the talks. For T20's and ODI's he won't make it. For Tests, however, again we saw weak our #2 and 3 is. So I won't be surprised if he makes it in the Test side

one century and ash should be marvelled again? junaid recently showed us what happens when an inconsistent player is recalled off the back of one good score that came out of nowhere, and ash has been at it a lot longer so his track record has even more accuracy to it than junaids would. still congrats on the ton but show me 2 great consistent seasons where he score minimum 3 tons per season plus a few half centuries before even thinking about recalling ash please (test team we're talking about).

now mehrab, he's been doing pretty good, quite consistent, but there are no middle order spots open so like all of the other middle order batsmen scoring runs and pushing for selection (mominul, marshall), mehrab is pushing for thee #3 spot. i still think mominul has been consistent enough to warrant a call-up to the #3 spot in tests, after mominul it would be marshall then maybe mehrab.
