Very sorry to hear about Letang. Always liked his offensive sensibilities and prowess. I hope he comes back strong next season. Our top defensive prospect Jiri Fischer had similar issues a few years ago and never played again

Surprisingly solid performance from our guys in Ottawa. What a game from Nyquist, Franzen, Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco, Gustavsson and of course, the one legged Datsyuk. Datsyuk did not play in the third period for precautionary reasons. He’s still bothered by an inflamed knee. He had no points but posted a plus-3 rating. He and his teammates will have four days to rest. The Red Wings’ next game is Tuesday at New Jersey. They have stepped up in the absence of our talismanic captain and most consistently effective 3-zone player. The usual suspects in defense weren't that error-prone either. I love our chances to make the playoffs if we can sustain this form.

Yea. I like Letang despite his mistake prone tendencies. But, he is a great skater and has so much offensive skills. I think he is done for this year. I am pretty sure of that.

Total awful performance by Pens last night. Got into a goal fest. Couldn't hold on to leads. Fleury is looking shaky again now that March is around corner ! Bylsma is still scratching Despres for Engelland. His pets play every game. Adams the 'specialist' PK guy couldn't clear the puck twice on one PK and it lead to goal. Glass, his another pet took a five min major with six mins to play when we were up 5-4 ! Orpik the statue another awful game. But, they are Disco Dan's boys. Therrien benched Subban entire half after he turned it over on a PP and Sutter scored a shorty. Disco will never do anything like that. I am counting the days he is fired. Hope it was three years ago. I have nothing but disdain for him and his arrogant stubborn foolish ways.

For what its worth, Kesler to Pens rumor are heating up big time everywhere. Will be a great get, but Byslma and Fleury will F it up eventually.

You guys could use a solid 3-zoner like Kesler. Kenny made some calls for him too and nobody knows why. He's that rare local boy who grew up rooting for then arch enemies the Avs, and then refused scholarships to Michigan and Michigan State. Besides, we're packed with 3-zone players up to the hilt and need a genuine power forward who can do what Holmstrom used to do for us. I wish Babcock had the authority to smack him up the that yuppie scum head of his.

Anyway, the Blues get Miller and in doing so, will have their best chance to go deep into the playoffs and contend for the Cup. I wish Kenny would talk to Buffalo and try to get Ott.

I think Blues overpaid. Halak is not much worse than Miller. I think Miller is good but personally I also think he is overrated. Maybe the only time I see him is when they play Pens, and traditionally Pens made a living out of him. His career numbers vs Pens prove that. Also, Chris Stewart is a great young power forward. Not sure why he is not liked in St.Louis, but he is a first line player ( second right now ) and much better than Ott as a player. Doesn't St.louis have bunch of Steve Ott's? I don't think this trade do anything for Blues. Thats my opinion.

What do you have against Yuppies? lol..Have you seen hipsters ?

Kesler would be great but asking price is too much. Apparently, we offered Sutter+ Pouliot ( high end puck moving D and a first rd pick ). They declined. According to various sources, and I was listening to Van insider on local radio, he can choose teams he would like to go to ( he can waive his NMC for teams he likes ). He said Detroit was not on it. Two teams he said ok were Pens and Possibly BJ's !! He went to Ohio St. and has ties in Columbus. We will see. Shero is real aggressive when it comes to trades. Its Bylsma who will screw it up. Just like he never player Iginla with Sid, though he was brought in for that, and he made him switch positions ! Dumb guy.

The trade works in favor the Blues for sure. Miller has proven to be a better goalie with a decent defense in front of him. The Blues have a very good defense. Ott is less skilled but a bruiser. Just what we need.

Now Datsyuk is out as feared. His knee injury was further inflamed in Sochi and now he needs rest. So we're having Andersson, a third or fourth line center fresh from the AHL, center our top line now. Nobody except Kronwall or Dekeyser is really top 4 material in our defense, and I'm not confident at all in Smith's ability to do justice to his natural talent and become the defenseman we need him to be. Ericsson is a slightly overpaid tree. Kindl has faded, and Lashoff has always been a number 6 defenseman with zero offensive ability. Thankfully we have excellent prospects like Sproul, Ouellet, Marchenko, Almquist and Backman in the pipeline, and Kenny is showing serious interest in acquiring Erhoff for the run already underway. I assume Kindl and Lashoff will be a part of that possible deal.

No wonder we lost to Jersey conceding a last minute goal for the umpteenth time this season, not to take anything away from Gionta's wonderful tip-in. Franzen had a good game again and that's always good to witness before the playoffs. He has stepped up for sure. We lost Helm to a possible groin injury and Alfie lost teeth in the game. Man, things don't look good at all.

Speaking of trades, it's hilarious how much the Nucks want for Kesler. They want a TOP prospect, an established NHL center and a 1st rounder…or two…for Kesler. Not Toews or Bergeron, but Kesler!

Canucks are a mess. Only a few years ago, they were a great team. Nobody wants to play for Tortorella. He is insane. Bad manager of people and Mike Gillis is the worst GM. Everybody jumping ship. Luongo fiasco lasted two + years and finally he got the hell out of there. They are only two pts out of a playoff spot but blowing it up like they are Sabres. Kesler wants out. He was stripped of his 'A' by Tortorella. He controls his destiny by way of NTC. Part of me don't want to see Pouliot go with uncertainty about Letang and his future, but if it comes to that, we will have to give him up. Maatta's meteoric rise probably makes Pouliot expendable. Last night Maata was on the top pairing ( replaced Orpik- who should be traded ASAP ), the PP man and played on PK. So, lets see what happens today. Canucks should just stay put and trade him in summer.

Goalies that moved- Miller, Halak, Bryz, Fasth, Luongo, Markstrom..some big big names. Cam Ward may also be moved and Brodeaur. I don't think I have ever seen that many good goalies move in one trade deadline. But, Fleury stays

Some crazy trades out there. We got local boy Legwand for serious prospect Jarnkrok and useless Eaves. Whilst Legwand is a tough 2-way player, there's practically no offensive upside in his game, something we need. I see him in the fourth line and after Helm returns, only GOD knows what! Kenny failed to acquire a top 4 defenseman, something we also need, because the "price was too high". Well, is someone as promising and young as Jarnkrok not too high a price for an aging Legwand who can't even score 20 goals anymore? Only time will tell but this already smells like another one of Kenny's blunders. I'm glad he held on to Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco and Mantha, but Jarnkrok should also have been properly valued. Legwand wasn't worth trading him for. Here's Kenny's presser. He talks about our totally effed up injury situation.

Dallas bringing in Tim Thomas is huge. They have a good defensive rotation and Thomas can be his best playing behind them. The Oilers also got stronger with Scrivens. St. Louis for Callahan works in favor of the Rangers. LA has become all the stronger with Gaborik, still can't believe how a pure goalscorer like him can't find a permanent home anywhere, and Vanek has made NYI stronger, even an emerging force to be reckoned with once Tavares returns next year. Ott moving to the Blues is huge. They'll be very hard to play against in the playoffs.

The whole Kesler saga was like Luongo and Schneider fiasco from last year. Kesler wanted out, but looks to me Gillis was more interested in dragging foot than anything else. Both the Ducks and Pens made a strong offer. Its ok. I am glad we didn't give up Pouliot. He certainly would have improved the team. But, Goc and Stemniak are two good depth moves. We will see how they gel.

From what I read, Det overpaid for Legwand. Towards the end of the deadline players were moving for draft picks only. Oilers got Fasth. Scrivens was already there ! Gaborik is a good scorer but health is a major issue. He just can't stay healthy and that's why teams are afraid of him ( only gave up Fratin and a draft !! ). Also, Vanek was practically given to the Habs by Isles for draft picks and prospect. He is not with Isles.

Thumbs up THE HIGHEST 5 IN MOTOR CITY

9-1-7-10-19 and now 5.

Nicklas Erik Lidström's #5 got put up where it belongs. 4 out of 6 Cups, 1 Conn Smythe (finished a close second the other 3 times), and 7-time Norris Winner (second only to Orr). Easily the greatest Defenseman in history alongside Orr. Whilst Orr may have been better offensively albeit in a far less fast and physical NHL of the Pre-Mario Lemieux era, nobody and I mean nobody has been better defensively according to experts and everyone who has played against him. Not bad for a Swede drafted 53rd overall!

I've had the chance to spend time with him and some of the other Red Wings during the 90s, and it has been a privilege having them and their families in my thoughts and prayers ever since. Polite, down-to-earth and humble to a fault, he's one of the finest human beings I've been blessed to meet.

Don't take my word for it. Please watch and decide for yourselves. St. Nick ...

I must say I like our chances to make the playoffs now. As hopelessly depleted as we seem to be, we've been playing well post Sochi. Sure we blew another 3rd period lead to lose to the Avs in OT, again inside the final minute of the game, but the positives in context totally outweigh the negatives. Kronwall's leadership in these toughest of times has been deeply inspirational. Not only has he stepped up big time despite the painful absence of top 4 partners in defense, not including Dekeyser, but has also managed to inspire Franzen to play the way he has been. Even Smith is beginning to generate hope again and Quincey has been less annoying. Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan and Jurco look to be exceptional NHLers much faster than anticipated, and the veteran leadership of Alfie and Legwand has added to his almost Messier-like ability to get his team to fight like Red Wings, MashAllah. Just watch how everyone responded in tonight's game against Jersey.

Legwand, like Alfie, has been a perfect fit so far. A great puck holder, patient and tenacious, maybe the Red Wings are exactly what he needed to revive his best days for a few more years. Fetisov, Coffey, Murphy, Chelios, Hull and Robitaille did it before him.

I hope and pray these guys will continue to play like this and get us to the playoffs, so that a returning Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Helm can take us deep into post season InshAllah.

Our next two games are especially critical. The Rangers are a point ahead of us but we have a game in hand. The BJs are two points behind us after playing the same number of games. Getting all 4 points would put some daylight between us and the BJs and put us in a position to serious contend for a 7th, 6th, 5th or even 4th place finish.

I saw the ceremony on NHL Network. He still looks like he can play. I would say he is better than Coffey or Orr, because he could play defense way better than those two. Best defenseman ever.

Good luck against Rangers. You gonna need the luck, since every goal you score against the greatest goalie in the world will involve luck. He gives up any goal? its a lucky goal. He shuts you out, he is all skill. So, do a special ceremony beforehand.

^Lol!

BTW, when asked who were the toughest forwards to play against in his fabled career, Lidstrom mentioned three names in the posted interview: -

1. Jagr (presumably when he played for the Pens). Speed, skill and power.

2. Mario. Deceptive speed, skill and power. Mario ushered-in the new era of fast and hard hockey being played today, IMO.

3. Gretzky.

Lidstrom's eldest son Kevin is a serious young prospect very much in the Red Wings radar. He grew up playing hockey in Michigan.

Totally outplayed as Lundqvist shut us out 3-0 to win his 300th NHL game. Just 1 behind Richter to tie the NYR record. Well, he's the best in the world IMO and when he plays the way he did, especially with that tight and proactive defense in front of him, only luck will get you goals, or so it would seem convincingly.

Also very impressed by how far Ryan McDonagh has come and how far he'll likely to go. Always solid on defense, he is beginning to show natural offensive talent as well. Great shot, both accurate and heavy, and he knows just when to shoot too. That's hockey sense you can't really teach in today's fast and furious pace. Chris Kreider, also an American player, is another incredibly talented player with great potential. His deflection was a deliberate thing of art. Always good to see emerging American players with spectacular promise, no matter who they play for.

Vigneault has organized the Rangers defense beautifully, gotten their forwards to relentlessly work hard in all 3 zones, and inspired everyone to play as a cohesive unit capable of executing his gameplan. The Rangers took full advantage of the absence of Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Helm's extra speed when we make our entry during powerplays, paid extra attention to Franzen, now our most skilled player alongside Tatar and Nyquist, and shut us down by boxing us out to the boards. We didn't get many good chances at all, and on the rare occasion we did, Lundqvist was there.

Vigneault outcoached Babcock the way the Babcock and Julien tandem outcoached Bylsma at the SWO'14.

Mike Babcock calls this loss team's worst performance since Jan 1. Says team not prepared and didn't compete. Very upset.

Wings-BJs tonight. Huge game for both teams tied in points and vying for 8th place and above.

it took the BJs just 1 period to figure us out before they handed us the tough loss. I don't think we'll make the playoffs this year, and see our incredible streak end at 22 consecutive seasons, and 27 out of the last 30. It has been a great ride, MashAllah, but we just cannot do it without Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Helm, as amazing as the Wiffins have been. Hopefully our great defensive prospects will give us at least one top 4 defenseman next year, and Mantha will create the powerful presence in front of the net we haven't had since Holmstrom.

CBJ has become a tough team to play against. They play as a team and play with lots of emotion. They got speed and good players in all four lines. If they get in, its a gonna be a tough match up for whoever gets them. Detroit is making it difficult for themselves. I just looked at the standing and while Wings are definitely within an earshot to make it ( with bunch of other teams ), what might end up hurting them is the lack of win totals. 29 wins so far. That is the first tie breaker in case teams are tied with pts. There will be a lot of three pt games in final few weeks. So, increasing the win total is paramount.

We swept the Caps. Playing ok. Its hard to complain when you have 92 pts and basically lead the division all year, but there is something missing with this team. Bottom six is AHL level. I am not too optimistic about Pens this year. Crosby has played every game ( knock on wood ) and he will run away with Art Ross. Its not even a competition when he plays. He is just that much better than any other center. Health issues denied him a few Art and Hart, but this year, he will win by the grace of God.

Canucks are a mess. Gave up seven goals to Isles in third period ! Tortorella will never coach again. He is toxic and full of negative energy. Letting AV go was a huge mistake on their part.

The BJs are a tough, aggressive and dirty team in the fine tradition established by the Philadelphia Flyers, but they're more like a made for network TV version so far. Just give thugs like Blake Comeau a couple more years to make this team of goons in his image. Whilst there's a good chance they'll make it to the playoffs, I don't think they have what it takes to go deep.

I don't think so either. They might make it to playoffs ( I think they get in ) but for a young team minus playoffs experience its always hard to go deep the first time. But, they do play tough and on the edge. You can tell that were in the West. Still play like a western team. They lost last night, but picked up a point.

Toronto is legit. Had a great western swing and won most games. They have great forward depth.

We have a home an home with the thugs from Philly this weekend. I just hope we come out injury free. Looks like Kuntiz and Neal will miss both games. They always play us good. Won't be shocked if they beat us in both games. If they do, they will get in, but I know rest of the EAST will be rooting for us I will love it if those a-holes miss the playoffs again in back to back years.

Darren Helm is practicing at today's morning skate. Good sign. Teemu Pulkkinen, a 2010 fourth-round draft pick, is set to make his NHL debut Friday when we host Edmonton. Pulkkinen, known for the heaviest shot in the organization, replaces Tomas Jurco out with a broken rib.

Toronto *is* legit. Top 2 lines have been good all year. The Kessel-Bozak-JVR line is as good as any top line in the league IMO, but let's see what happens in the real dance, AKA the playoffs.

Every win is important for us at this point and the win against Assguard is huge because the BJs got comped tonight like the dirty hoes they are. Speaking of dirty hoes, it was upsetting to see Philly win over the Pens. Crosby needs to shoot more. I understand his dilemma. He has become a more complete player and likes to pass the puck to more open players. He needs to understand that with a shot as accurate as his, he'd still have a far better chance at finding the back of the net. A player like him being "selfish" and going for 5-point glory is a good thing for any team because more often than not, that means a "W". He should be selfish and go for 50+ goals and 100 assists every season while we pray he stays healthy.

Last minute goals against have been a major problem with us all season and tonight was no exception, but thankfully the result was different this time. Howard kept us in the game and tireless work from Nyquist, Legwand and Alfie enabled us to just hang on. Other than Kindl, I thought our D was pretty decent with Kronwall and DeKeyser having particularly good shifts.

Can't believe we're still in the playoff hunt despite all the key injuries and Kenny's useless, costly and untradable acquisitions. I don't think any other team would be. We certainly wouldn't be had we still been in the West. But here we are in the East and credit goes to Babcock and the kids from the Griffins, a team still doing quite well in the AHL despite most of their Calder Cup winning players being away. I continue to be humbled by our scouting and development staff who have not had the privilege of working with high draft picks in 30 straight years ...

Kenny would've been exposed and fired a long time ago without their unrivaled genius for finding diamonds-in-the-rough and cutting them into Champion NHLers.

Murphy's law in its full splendor. Ericsson didn't come out for the third period. He missed final two shifts in the second. Broken finger and he joins the party
