Default The Power of Positive Thinking

May 9, 2007. The new day yawns and stretches out of its slumber across the early morning horizon. The sharp, muggy sunlight glides right through the tightly drawn curtains with the easy arrogance of a familiar marauder, the one who comes and goes as he pleases. Too hot for unseen birds to announce the day with a riot of sounds from cooler seasons. Where are they now?

Semi-asleep, I feel my eyelids getting warmer, adding strange hues of light to the serene darkness within. The buzz from the ceiling fan begins to seep into my consciousness. The draft. Those curtains being gently sucked in further towards the center of the room, before pulling themselves back to the window like docile children. Convex, concave.... movement along the z-axis. The contemporary grillwork all skewed in those clear, high res shadows. Shifting shape like thick, metallic, malleable liquid. It’s so nice and cool in here, so far from the promise of another scorcher outside these walls. Time to face another day… anytime now. What will I see? How clear are those shadows? How distorted? Tomorrow’s Match day in Dhaka.

How will they do? Will they keep it as tight as they can, and let us catch another glimpse of the very best that all of us can be? Or will they just wilt early and wither away? I'd remember them either way. I remember our novices being manhandled by Grandmasters - being pinned, forked and mated as we found ways deal with the added humiliation of being at the wrong end of getting too much, too soon. I also remember our guys rising out of those episodes with the youthful gleam of an unexpected optimism and eloquence - willed and fabricated purely out of the collective consciousness of the Bangladeshi experience - and turn the table on those idols. I’m partial to those good times, however rare they may be, because they add to that Bangladeshi experience by bringing all of us together.

Time to tuck ourselves back into the power of positive thinking. With all the data on placebo-effects and psychosomatic suggestion, maybe it’s not all that hokey after all. Please drop a few personal lines about similar feelings, a short leash on the customary ridicule and more often than not, cheap sarcasm, will be greatly appreciated. Can’t hurt too much, right?

Hoping for the best. One victory in next 5 matches would satisfy. If we win the first then it would change to "one victory in the next 4 match would satisfy" so on so forth.
Little bit worried on Mash's replacement. Not on the bowling side but batting and fielding.

Turn it to channel 457 (or whatever channel shows cricket on your version of Dish Network) and look at the schedule for 10:30 tonight. You'll see it.

I would like to have 2-1 series in favour of BD. But i won't mind if the result is 1-2.

I have no idea what combination or the players India will play. Anyone have a clue? Maybe some of our Indian friends here can shed some light on that matter. BD might face what India had to earlier in the WC- unknown quantities.

I presume Gambhir and Uthappa will open. Followed by Shewag at no.3 ( unless he opens and Uthappa drops down ), Dravid at 4, Yuvraj at 5. Not sure who comes at no.6. Dhoni? or somebody else? Mongia will play ( spin option ). Bowlers : Zaheer, Patel, Sreesanth & Powar?

Anyway..a lot of unknown quantities...

Yeah, you are right - an unknown enemy is more dangerous than a known enemy. India paid the price in WC, hope they can restore it back this time. From an Indian point of view a 2-1 verdict is what is least desired.

For the line up, I think this may be the one

- Gambhir
- Sehwag
- Uthappa
- Dravid
- Yuvraj
- Dhoni
- Karthick/Mongia (I prefer Mongia because he is a left hander and play spin well, also can bowl)
- Ramesh Powar
- Sreesanth / Chawla (based on pitch condition)
- Zaheer
- Munaf

Hope BD will win tomorrow, though I won't be watching. Will follow on BC & Cricinfo though. Feel jealous for those who will watch it in Mirpur.

Sreeshant is the most dangerous of the indian bowlers, i was a little surprised to see him not playing at all in world cup.

Good luck BD boyz

The bangladeshi think-tank is pondering to promote Mushfique to the opening slot and include forhad reza instead of Javed Omar.

What do you guys think about the move?

Very good, positive move. To win ODI, I think you will have to play positively.
This way we will have 3 pacers, Forhad is a good batsman as well. Rahim can play Javed's role. We will miss Javed's *Excellent* fielding-which is also a key in the field.

As a bowler Forhad has no jhal.....flat, slow and begging to be hit all around. I still wont complain if he comes in for JO

Mushfique is a good card to try but for some reason, I dont think this is a long term solution. In the long term, we need a very dependable solid in defence type player. Mushfique crumbled under bounce so many times. may be I am wrong..with experience he will get better

I support this move but with a change, Bashar as opener instead of Mushfique. Even though, I know that he was tested before as opener and failed.

agreed... plz don't add shahadat.... we need shahadat in test match.. not in odi... in odi we need more accurate line length.. bowling.... which is not possible from shahadat...
