Stadium Updates: World Cup 2011

Taka 256 Crore is being spent for upgrading 5 stadiums. BBNS, SBNS, Osmani NG, ZA Ctg, Khulna

Thing I liked is that they are putting chairs in staduim. Amongst other things they are putting flood lights, Giant screens, Bigger gates, CCTV, Landscaping etc etc

Would be happy to see some permanent covers on the galleries.

Any news of new pitches in BBNS? Won't like to see match being abandoned for any under prepared pitches like WI. Who will provide match time electricity, do the stadiums have generators for emergency?

Please post all stadium news and photos if you get on the stadiums. I think we are going to have some excellent cricketing facilities by the end of the world cup.

According to the Bangla Vision news Mostafa Kamal claims after the world cup BCB will start working on 3 brand new stadium. He said Dhaka, Ctg, and cox bazar. Haha shala dhong korar ar jaiga pai na. We are hosting the world cup and they want to make stadiums after its over.

three of the most congested cities in bd(cox bazar wil soom become one given the increasing number of tourists and apartments and hotels)!why can't he just spend money on improving the ones that we already have like the ones in khulna and rajshahi,etc etc?

But I still doubt about the Khulna and Chittagong venues. I had been to this Hotel Peninsula and it is OK. But what about the flood light facilities? What about the standard of pitches? Who is the curator of Sher e Bangla Stadium?

Chittagong, Sep 18 (bdnews24.com) — A gang of about 20 has stolen building materials from Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, which is undergoing refurbishment as a cricket World Cup venue.

Police have said that the gang took the guard hostage at gunpoint during the heist early on Saturday.

National sports council engineer of Chittagong Mokhlesur Rahman told bdnews24.com that the theft might delay the preparation process of the stadium if the materials are not recovered soon.

The stadium's site supervisor Jahangir Alam has filed a robbery case with the Pahartali police.

The stadium's security has been beefed up but no one has been arrested yet.

The last time I went there during that Ind vs. BD game in Dec/Jan, I was seriously annoyed by the outside...I sincerely hope they pave it and grass it up in the next few months and keep those "dokan path" off limits for at least the next 7 months!

আসন্ন বিশ্বকাপ ক্রিকেটের ভেন্যু চট্টগ্রাম জহুর আহম্মদ চৌধুরী বিভাগীয় স্টেডিয়াম থেকে ফ্লাডলাইট ও ছাদের (রোপ ক্যানপি) বিপুল পরিমাণ সরঞ্জাম নিয়ে গেছে দুর্বৃত্তরা। গত শুক্রবার রাতে স্টেডিয়ামের নিরাপত্তারক্ষীদে� � অস্ত্রের মুখে জিম্মি করে প্রায় চার লাখ টাকা দামের এসব সরঞ্জাম ট্রাকযোগে নিয়ে যায় দুর্বৃত্তরা। এসব মালামাল উদ্ধার করা না গেলে নির্ধারিত সময়ে কাজ শেষ করা যাবে না বলে আশঙ্কা করছেন সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তিরা।

জানা গেছে, ট্রান্সকম ইলেকট্রনিকস স্টেডিয়ামে ফ্লাডলাইট লাগানোর ও কিউ এইচ মাসুদ নামের আরেকটি কোম্পানি রোপ ক্যানপির কাজ করছিল। অক্টোবরের মধ্যে ফ্লাডলাইট ও রোপ ক্যানপির কাজ শেষ করার কথা ছিল। কিন্তু মালামাল লুট হওয়ার পর ভেন্যুর উন্নয়নকাজ যথাসময়ে শেষ করা নিয়ে অনিশ্চয়তা দেখা দিয়েছে।

এ ঘটনাকে নাশকতা হিসেবে দেখছে স্থানীয় আয়োজক কমিটি। কমিটির চেয়ারম্যান বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের সদস্য সিরাজুদ্দীন মোহাম্মদ আলমগীর বলেন, চট্টগ্রামে বিশ্বকাপ ভেন্যু নিয়ে এখনো অনেক ষড়যন্ত্র চলছে। অনেকে চায় না, এখানে বিশ্বকাপ হোক। এই লুণ্ঠনের ঘটনাটি তারই অংশ। এতে কাজ বিলম্বিত হতে পারে।

ফ্লাডলাইট লাগানোর দায়িত্ব পাওয়া প্রতিষ্ঠান ট্রান্সকমের প্রকল্প তত্ত্বাবধায়ক ওয়াহিদ নাসির গতকাল সন্ধ্যায় প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘দুর্বৃত্তরা প্রায় চার লাখ টাকা মূল্যের ফ্লাডলাইটের টাওয়ারের স্টিলের অ্যাঙ্গেল, জয়েন্ট প্লেটসহ অন্যান্য সরঞ্জাম নিয়ে গেছে। আরেকটি কোম্পানির লোহার বিম, অ্যাঙ্গেল ইত্যাদি লুট হয়েছে।’

সরঞ্জাম লুটের কথা নিশ্চিত করে জাতীয় ক্রীড়া পরিষদ চট্টগ্রামের প্রকৌশলী মোখলেসুর রহমান বলেন, রাতে ১৫-২০ জন দুর্বৃত্ত ঢুকে দারোয়ানকে জিম্মি করে ফ্লাডলাইট ও রোপ ক্যানপির সরঞ্জাম নিয়ে যায়। এনএসসি থেকে বিষয়টি ক্রীড়া ও স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়সহ ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তাদের জানানো হয়েছে। তিনি আশঙ্কা প্রকাশ করেন, এগুলো পাওয়া না গেলে স্টেডিয়ামের উন্নয়নকাজ বিলম্বিত হতে পারে।

পুলিশ সূত্র জানায়, রাত আড়াইটার দিকে ১৫-২০ জন লোক একটি ট্রাক নিয়ে স্টেডিয়াম এলাকায় যায়। এ সময় তারা বালু খালাসের কথা বলে দারোয়ানকে দিয়ে স্টেডিয়ামের প্রধান ফটক খোলায়। পরে ওই দারোয়ানকে জিম্মি করে ভেতরে যায়। সেখানে তারা ট্রান্সকম ও কিউ এইচ মাসুদের প্রহরীদেরও অস্ত্রের মুখে জিম্মি করে। পরে তারা গুদামে রাখা সরঞ্জাম তুলে দ্রুত ট্রাক নিয়ে চলে যায়।
ট্রান্সকমের জ্যেষ্ঠ প্রকৌশলী মোশারফ হোসেন বলেন, ‘এ সরঞ্জাম পাওয়া না গেলে যথাসময়ে কাজ শেষ করা কঠিন হবে। অক্টোবরের মধ্যে আমাদের কাজ বুঝিয়ে দেওয়ার কথা ছিল।’
বিশ্বকাপ আয়োজনের প্রস্তুতিকালে এ ধরনের ঘটনায় চাঞ্চল্য সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। গতকাল সকালে র‌্যাব ও পুলিশ স্টেডিয়াম এলাকায় গিয়ে ঘটনাটি খতিয়ে দেখে। এ ঘটনায় ট্রান্সকম ইলেকট্রনিকসের ফোরম্যান জাহাঙ্গীর আলম বাদী হয়ে রাতে নগরের পাহাড়তলী থানায় একটি মামলা করেন। এতে লুট হওয়া মালামালের দাম প্রায় চার লাখ টাকা উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।

পাহাড়তলী থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) বশির আহম্মদ বলেন, এ ঘটনা নিয়ে তদন্ত শুরু হয়েছে। জড়িত ব্যক্তিদের খুঁজে বের করা এবং মালামাল উদ্ধারের চেষ্টা চলছে।
