this is interesting. i like the pictures for their visual content and i really hate to point this out but the quality of photography is a little poor to say the least. inadequate depth of field, lack of contrast, total disregard for framing, lack of sharpness in some of the flowers make it quite unpleasant to look at. i am sure there must be better examples of the same subjects somewhere or other?

BTW, isn't this swimming pool near the Maulabhibazaar England-Bangladesh tea research center? This closed compound also houses the cottage residences (with stone pathways) of some great folks from England, SriLanka and India, and a fantastic club building. I was fortunate enough to be taken their with my friend in 1990 (his dad was some Project Executive or somebody).

Wow ... BD has changed a lot since the last time I've been there ... 6 years ago, to be exact.

These photographs have been collected by some members, and specially Imtiaz bhai. It's not taken by any BC member, and I'm pretty sure maximum of them aren't taken by any professional photographer either. For us, living abroad, this is the only source of satisfaction.

The ones you're talking about are the ones that are professionally taken, and those you can buy for $400 a photo from www.GettyImages.com.

hello kabir,

i appreciate what you are stating, my comment was principally concerning the 'flowers of bangladesh' pictures. as for the architecture and general streelife pictures, their content justifies the postings.

as for copyrighted pictures being presented in a forum, having run a successful forum the same amount of time as this seems to be going on, i sympathise with your concerns. unless there has been complaints of rights infringement, you could perhaps allow contributors to post pictures from wherever they like. if there has not been a commercial exploitation which certainly would not be the case for a forum like this, anything goes! that means better photography too!

i should add that i am hoping to visit dhaka towards the end of next year. while much of the time spent would be with immediate family, but i intend to spend two days doing street photography. hope to take my Mamiya RZ67 with me as fast films are useless through x-ray machines. does anyone know if they allow you to carry film stock in hand where it would not be x-rayed?

this is a good link actually. all the pictures are heavily manipulated in photoshop and some very clever touches of HDR as well. its not my style of photography but nonetheless very interesting.
