I would field B team under Riyad in the series, no point fielding a full strength team against Zimbabwe in their current state.

My XI would be-

Liton
Soumya/Zakir
Shanto
Mushfiq
Riyad
Mithun
Saifuddin/Arif
Miraz
Roni
Nazmul
Rubel/Rahi

Hope RahTamSha

And MaMir, and MustBel, and MaTon(not to be confused with mutton) are all available with a surprised MahPu duo providing back up in the spin department.

Shakib out of the picture for three months. He needs atleast three weeks to recover from his current infection, another two months for surgery and rehab.

^ Tamim also is like to miss the series against zim. This is a great opportunity to test the young generation under low pressure situation.

Even Mash has an injured finger. He should not be risked in this series unless he fully recover.

I'd rest the seniors. Tamim and Shakib suffering from injury and Mushy also played with rib injury through Asia Cup. Rest Mash and Fizz as well, both deserve a break. Make Riyad the captain. Knowing that WC is so near, we really need to give some of our youngsters game time and make them have responsibility without the seniors.

This would be my squad:

Liton Das (wk)
Soumya Sarkar
Nazmul Hossain Shanto
Mosaddek Hossain
Mahmudullah Riyad (c)
Mithun Ali
Mehedi Hasan Miraz
Mohammad Saifuddin
Abu Haider Rony
Nazmul Islam Opu
Rubel Hossain

Bench: Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Ariful Haque, Abu Jayed Rahi

The strength of the Zimbabwe team has dwindled quite astonishingly. It would be a great time to rest Mashrafe and string the captaincy on one of the up and comers...the young blood.

India usually does this...with Rahane, and Rayudu...sending a weak team to tour Zimbabwe.

But then again, WC is right around the corner and you want to have a squad of players playing together.

It's a gamble

A lot of players are carrying injury. You must rest them to recover fully. We have a busy year ahead.

This is what I was stressing on. A perfect opportunity for the youngsters.

This series should be purely looked at as a chance to give experience to youngsters, shakib and Tamim are injured so they miss out, mushy put in a big effort in the Asia cup and mash has to be preserved wherever possible to make it to the WC healthy.

I say make riyad captain at least for the shorter formats, if mushy plays it should just be tests. Get a youngsters to be test captain as riyads spot in tests still isn’t permanent (well if it is it shouldn’t be).

I wouldn't just go into this series to test our bench strength but use this series to look for a proper no 3 and a 7.

My plan:

Shakib - already out
Tamim - needs to play the Tests but only if fully fit
Mashrafee - rest him unless he wants to play
Mushy - no need for rest unless he's hurt
Riyad - ditto
Fizz - play him in the first 2 ODIs rest him for 3rd before the Test series begins
Rubel - rotate him with other pacers, should not be in the Test team to begin with
Hider - should hopefully get some games under his belt

Test pace attack will be Fizz + Jayed.

But in ODIs I'd like to see Hider and perhaps also Mishu and or Shoriful given a go as well which will help rest Rubel and Fizz and Mash.

We could try Nurul out as a WK-batsman in ODIs. Shanto, Mosaddek should get a proper long run as top order ODI batters.

ODI XI

Liton
Soumya
Shanto
Mushfiq
Mosaddek
Riyad
Nurul
Miraz
Ariful
Rubel/Fizz
Hider/Mishu/Shorif/Mrittunjoy

Test XI

Tamim
Liton
Mominul
Mushfiq
Mosaddek
Riyad
Nurul
Miraz
Taijul
Jayed
Fizz

I said many times I won't watch this Zim series, but then again I just might. It made me think of something, how strange it is that in cricket, the highest level is int. And because so few countries play this sport, you can get bored with the same match ups.

I would hate to play WI,SL, NZ,PAK,SA and ENG too. Can't say why, maybe because we have played against these nations, especially the first three quite a fair bit in recent times.

The only two series I would love is IND and AUS.

We should play a 7 match ODI series against India. Keep playing them to know if you can beat them or not. And Australia because it seems like we haven't played them in a series for so long. And when we did face them in a tournament last time, the game was washed out I believe, so could not assess ourselves.

I would love it if we field our A team and rest the seniors. Perfect opportunity to experiment and find the solution to the top order as well.

In regards to the World Cup, shouldn’t we push Riyad up to one-down where he was so successful at the big stage?

We should open with both Liton and Nazmul. Give chances to players who failed to make an impact in the Asia Cup and didn't get enough games. Rest Mustafizur, Mushfiq from the ODI and give players like Abu Hider and Mosaddek chances while dropping panic inclusion like Sarkar and Imrul. While we should also try to use this as a way to find a Shakib back-up and I can't remember any left arm spinner all-rounder aside from Sunzamul.

Keep in mind this 11 is find a 3 and 7. Mossadek looks like a tailender imo, he's not a candidate for 3 or 7. Give Mominul a run of games at 3.

My 11:

Soumya
Liton
Mominul
Shanto
Mithun
Riyad
Zakir
Ariful
Saifuddin
Miraz
Rubel

Apu, Imrul, Shoriful, Afif

If looking for a number 3 shanto should be the one getting the chances imo, he’s the most qualified for the number 3 spot as far as experience in that position and he’s already in the squads for the national team so to me it’d make sense to play shanto, he definitely needs to play this series even if it’s as opener.

I like the inclusion of afif, mainly because because he and mehedi are probably (at least at current) the two most likely youngsters to have any chance of filling shakibs void in future as far as an all round perspective. Thing is it’s probably too early for afif, probably best to groom him after the next WC, I’d probably leave him alone from any format other than t20s until then and I’d def tell him to work on his bowling.

And this may not be a popular opinion but I’d play Liton and soumya as the openers, sure soumya still looks out of sorts but there is no denying his talent and no denying what he has shown in the past against some really good attacks, if they can get him back into form then he’ll be a huge asset in the WC.

I guess they should give ariful this series as well to give him some experience and have a better look at him, I still reckon al Amin the allrounder is worth a look at though but since he hasn’t been around the national team I’d say that just like with afif they should now prob leave him until after the WC.

Bowling needs mehedi, give him even more experience. Abu hider needs to play to get experience .

Basically this series should test out bench strength and give them experience so really anyone who isn’t in the WC plans shouldn’t be here, only pick and play players in the plan for the upcoming WC. Talking the ODI series when I say that. In tests we play the best team unless some of them need rest and in t20s they can still test out some other young ones if they want to.

T20s, play guys like zakir and afif, they’ve already played a couple of matches in that format so go with them, perhaps even give al amin a look. But the series needs to be WC focused imo.
