The way I see the QF lineups and beyond.

Bangladesh v Australia
AUS strengths: They are at home, on familiar territory, with their crowd behind them. Their pace battery is good with Joel Paris and Gurinder Sandhu leading the way and their leading wicket taker is an off spinner.
AUS weaknesses: The top order batting hasn't been to good. Despite playing in a group with 2 minnows, they didn't break the 300 run mark, and Against both England and Ireland the top order got into trouble early in tiny chases.
BD strengths: The strongest point is middle order batting from #3-6 with Bijoy, Ratul, Saikat, and Al-Amin in tandem. All are capable of playing a blazing, match-winning, solid, or rear-guard innings. The spinners are decent individually, and together Noor, Naeem, Al-Amin, and Saikat display a synergistic effect. The pacers can be decent on their day.
BD Weaknesses: The opening batsman haven't really clicked apart from one semi-decent knock from LKD. Soumya needs to step up.

Bangladesh can win if they use their bowlers + fielders to put pressure on the Aussie's fragile top order. Given their bowling strength, Bangladesh will want to keep Australia to the 200-220 range maximum to have a host at making the semis.

England v South Africa
RSA strengths: Opening batsman de Koch and Bowes are perhaps the two best batsman on display in the entire tournament. Their bowling is also very solid, with the most runs they've conceded being Bangladesh's 161 all out. Overall probably the single best team in the WC.
RSA weaknesses: They don't seem to have any apparent weaknesses that other teams are likely to exploit. Unless they choke, they should win the whole thing.
ENG strengths: Pace attack is solid with Overton and Topley comprising the quickest pair in the tourney.
ENG weaknesses: Like the Aussies their top order has let them down massively. Bell-Drummond needs to start producing or he will risk losing his reputation as an over-hyped talent.
Prediction: South Africa to win comfortably.

Pakistan v India
PAK strengths: The batting is good enough to challenge, and as always the bowling is spot on.
PAK weaknesses: One gets the feeling that the batting relies a bit too much on Babar Azam and Sami Aslam, but no team has been good enough to test that theory as of it.
IND strengths: Chand and Zol enter with sky high reputations, but I get the feeling they've been a bit hyped like England's DBD. They will need to be at their best from here on out to keep India going.
IND weaknesses: The batting apart form the big names has just been atrocious, the lowlight being bowled out for 200 odd against PNG with 5 overs to spare. The bowling is also nothing to write home about.
Prediction: On paper it isn't even a contest for the Pakistanis, however the added adrenaline of this iconic clash means the game will likely be uber-close with Pakistan edging their eastern neighbors by a whisker.

West Indies v New Zealand
WI strengths: The pace attack is solid and the top order batting is solid too. Opener Braithwaite is the only Test-capped boy in the tournament.
WI weaknesses: Another side that didn't have too many weaknesses exposed in the group stage, but if their pacers go for some runs, it might be that they don't have a well-known spinner to try and keep it tight.
NZ strengths: They don't seem to have any obvious strengths.
NZ weaknesses: There appears to be a lack of talent at this level for the Kiwis.
Prediction: WI wins by a landslide.

Good post Asaad. I think other than the WI-NZL match, we'll have upsets in the other 3. I think our top 5 will click, RSA will choke and India will continue to add to their winning record against Pakistan in big tournaments even at this level.

I think we are in a good chance to beat the Aussies at their own ground. Ofcourse, they are the clear favorite in this game, but I won't rule us out just as yet.

It will be a game between their pace v our spin.

Though Australia topped the group, they had two associates, Nepal and Ireland and the only other formidable team was England. None of these teams are not known for their spin attack. So, the Aussie strength against spin wasn't really tested and that's where our strength lie, if we can extract.

Now, the ground of the QF, Endeavour Park 2, saw only 1 game so far between WI and Zim.
Not surprisingly, pacers from both sides dominated the proceedings but one thing interesting does come up.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-unde...ch/554540.html
If you see the bowling figures, spinners from both sides were very economical.
The W.Indian SLA AJ Hosein gave away just 16 runs in 10 overs and claimed 2 wickets.
The other WI SLA also did fairly well, giving away 34 runs in 10 overs.
From the Zimb side, their offie Bently also were equally good, giving away only 14 runs in his 7 overs.

So, may be there is something on the pitch for the spinners as well and that's where we have to strike hard. Our spinners have been doing so far and hopefully they can get on top of their game.
A good performance from Noor is also due in this tournament and hopefully he can deliver it right on time.

We all know how tough it will be for our boys against their pace and to negate that effect, our spinners will also need to be equally ruthless if we are to make history for ourselves.

I expect this game to be a low scoring thriller, going either way.

great analysis all...but remember this is BD junior tigers you are talking about....last match the great display against Namibia should be a good baseline to predict what we will expect from them in next match

Very happy that we've made it to the QF. Here's to an upset.

GO BANGLADESH!

Why would it be an upset if we beat the Australian U19 team? I mean, do we still think that our team isn't good enough to play the QF level? Every team is strong at this stage and Aussies are not invincible either. At the age group level, no game is that predictable at this phase..have faith in our boys, they aren't all Liton Dashs!!

Nice intro for a thread. It might be hard to beat Aussies at home. We have talent in the side, but i dont see any vibrant talent like Tamim, Mushfiq and Shakib when these 3 players were in their 18-19 yrs old. Let's hope for the best though.

save some for Sri Lanka, too! 14 wins for us vs their 8!

And, Aussies haven't beaten us at this level. Hope the record will be even better after the big QF.

Why will it be an upset if Bangladesh beat Australia. Australia U-19 never beat BD U-19. If BD U-19 win, it will be a normal affair.

You'll choke on it. The one we did not win was the one that mattered. The T20WC QF that we lost to them after we had banglawashed them earlier in a home series. They had the last laugh.
