Rise of the Southpaw : A column from Cricinfo where Bangladesh is everywhere

How much of the world's population is left-handed? There's no exact answer and figures have varied over the years but recent studies have estimated that left-handers account for 10 to 13% of the adult population. That's not much at all, around one in ten. Therefore for a team of 11 players to have among them more than one left-hander is already over the average. Today's list is about teams with the most left-handers and matches in which they've dominated the proceedings.
The Bangladesh team that beat India during the group stage of the World Cup had six left-handers; four bowlers and the two opening batsmen. The XI that upset South Africa in the Super Eights had one less, with Shahriar Nafees making way for Javed Omar at the top of the order. The three left-arm spinners, Mohammad Rafique, Abdur Razzak and Saqibul Hasan, along with Syed Rasel, the medium-pacer, accounted for eight of South Africa's wickets while the other two were run out.

Great...if our SN,Tamim, Saqib could have scored few more runs...they would have been also included. But great to see some highlights on our players.

south paws tend to be more intuitive and right brained and thus creative .... i honestly think our players should pick up juggling: it activates corpus callosum the nerve fibers connecting the two hemispheres which in turn results in better communication and thus better brain processin and better overall performance in game....

the actual list doesn't make any qualitative remarks on bangladeshi cricket. its just a comparison of right hand to left hand bowlers. and also most of our exploits are against rank minnows at home.

apparently our openers are better than sri lanka's by a wide margin in test match batting in countries were seam bowling is most conducive. we have less than 1 run average than pakistan, not even 3 runs behind india, and rate fairly competiviely against new zealand as well.

We actually have too many left handers. We should balance a bit (Left ight combination) to make some trouble for the fielding side.

BD national team used to hire left hander for net practice in past

This stat is more than 1 month old. Our average was boosted mainly by that Tamim / Zunaed record partnership. In you include the SA series, then we may end up at the usual position.

month old or not, if u take out all record partnerships everyone will suffer a drop. might not be as big a drop but oh well.
btw, spitty, SA series is not included because Rajesh's articles were concerning subcontinent openers in aus, sa, nz, and eng only. SA series is home series.
and if u factor out our 161-0, we are still above the lankans. but barely.
