Your pics are a delight btw, had my dinner an hour ago and now hungry again, I blame you lol.
Oh, you are absolutely right. Sinhalese food has a lot in common with Kerala. They use coconut milk / grated coconut kernel in Kerala too, just like we do.

P.S. Sorry about making you hungry again. I'm sure you've just returned from an under cover visit to the kitchen.

I had this like a million times in a Tamil restaurant near my place, they call it Kottu parotta though, chicken kottu parotta with Rum is life.

More on Gamini Silva:

Quote:
Silva is a Sri Lankan who is now Bangladesh Cricket Association’s (BCB) chief curator. He has been here for the last four years and is in charge of all seven cricket grounds in the country. Cricket allows him to relax, and this bit of relaxation he deserves thoroughly, for he led a life of enormous struggle, danger and pain during his youth.

This preparation without Maldive fish is called "lunu miris", which is the version I eat.

I hope he doesn't read this post before the match....hmmm, maybe I do want him to read this and get more pumped up than ever. A reason for inspiration.

Inspire the Tan-bear. Wake up the Tan-bear from hibernation

Food is universal my brother. It is the only universal language I know.

Don't worry about supposedly hijacking. In the match thread anything goes. I have read the fine print

Indian food is very popular in Sri Lanka as in many other countries.
Being vegetarian, I like the paneer dishes such as palak paneer.

True that lol, but seriously thanks for giving such an amazing insight about SL cuisine, this is what I like about internet as a whole, you end up learning about something or the other everyday.

I thank the third umpire for declaring me not out. I hope the ICC anti-corruption unit wouldn't come after us !

.. absolutely and we also end up making friends from around the world. You are very welcome mate.
It is also great to discover so many aspects which are common to Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and other countries in this region. Cricket happens to be the lowest common denominator though.

Dried fish mixed with coconut. what do you call that thing? The Sri Lankan food I have had, that was mixed with every other dish(you have to sprinkle it) and it was absolutely delicious.

That is pol (coconut) sambol.

Pol sambol with roast bread. Now that's something you should try.
Note: In this pic, you could see an omelette too included. Not really necessary as the pol sambol will get you the runs.

Who cares about cricket when there are so many tasty dishes flying around. On my next visit to a Sri Lankan restaurant, I will bring up every single one here, if I don't see any on the menu.

So many ideas you are giving me.
