Biman aircraft’s wing catches fire during takeoff

A wing of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft caught fire during its takeoff from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday afternoon.

Biman sources said the left wing of the national flag carrier’s aircraft
(BG078) caught fire around 3:00pm while leaving the airport for Hong
Kong.

However, no one was injured as the firefighters doused the blaze immediately.

Later, the flight has been rescheduled for 10:00pm on Friday.

Just saw on fb that Biman will be taking delivery of the last 2 777-300ERs soon. Wiki says early 2014, with the DC-10s being retired by late 2013.

Also read on fb that Biman will be starting services to Toronto and Melbourne via Sydney but having problems getting their JFK flight back. I think Biman could make some real money off of those routes.

Biman now flies 777's between LHR <>DAC and it also has a simple onboard entertainment system.

As I was taking off from Dhaka recently, I saw lot of DC10s being unpainted.

Its official!

Biman will be resuming DAC-JFK service 2x weekly via BHX with the new 777-300ERs that are coming in in a few months. They have also dry leased two 777-200ERs from Egypt Air and are looking to dry lease a 777-200LR as well.

Kevin Steelse says they will open service to LAX on the west coast within a year. Interesting news...

BBC News Online
Biman Bangladesh Airlines - the only commercial carrier still using the DC-10 - will replace its remaining aircraft with a more fuel-efficient Boeing 777.

It made a final international journey from Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Thursday, and will carry passengers for the final time on a one-hour pleasure flight at 15:00 GMT.
