I think it is easily Federer... His dominance of tennis is just amazing. Lance Armstrong is the best at the Tour de France but he hasnt been winning every race.....As for Tiger he might be good at gold but still his greatness in golf isnt the same as Federers in tennis.

Roger Federer! If you want to beat him you better bring it all, even than it might not be enough.
Tiger sucked last two years but he did win the Masters.
Armstrong only good in Tour de France.
Ff you asked this question two years earlier, I would go for Tiger Wood.

Has to be Tiger.
The game of golf is way different than any other sports. Even the best of all time in his prime can be defeated by a no name since you are not playing against any player but playing against the golf course. but in tennis you are playing against another player. Need to make less mistakes than the player and make more winners than the opponent. Game over. Those who have never played golf I would suggest if possible just go out to a golf course and try to putt a 4 yard putt and see how difficult it is.

In Golf it is considered a life time achievement if someone wins a major. Golfing prime age is in 30's. thats where all the knowledge of the game helps out the good ones to win the big one and be among the greats. Tiger won 10 majors (all 4 majors 2 and more) before even he turned 30. Jacks 18 major is in sight now. He dominates where the course is long, he dominates where the course is short, he dominates in every possible lay out.

Federer I am aware of federe's 7 for 7 grand slam finals record. But he hasn't won the french, highly unlikely will win it in his career (like pete). Not only in the French open, but in any clay court, Nadal and host of others has his number. choosing carefully and avoiding most of the clay court tournaments makes the stat look so damming. Obviously he is the best player in Hard/grass court.

Armstrongs only knock is he participates only in very few tournament other than Tour-de France. He had great teams to help him to win the tours. But he is the best fighter sports have ever seen. May be better than Ali.

Phil Taylor at the PDC darts.
Greatest darts player ever by a mile.
Best British sportsman.
MUST be added to this poll.

If this was 5 years ago - I'd have said Efren Reyes in 9 ball pool.
