Wicket Keeping Concerns - Solution
WICKET KEEPING CONCERNS – SOLUTION
While we presently have top order and fielding concerns wicket keeping is also an area we seriously need to look into.
Rahim though showed a lot composure and grittiness with some fighting innings in some
recent matches his wicket keeping is an area that needs improvement.
We already saw the fruits of having a specialized coach - Champaka Ramanayake in the bowling department where Mashrafe has shown tremendous improvement followed by Nazmul Hussain and young rookie Rubel who is improving though has a long way to go.
When a wicket keeper lapse occurs at critical stages it shatters the hopes of the team, nation and it could be very demoralizing for the suffering bowler.
That is not say the wicketkeeper will have a 100 % clean record. No wicketkeeper can claim that.
The point of my post is not to pinpoint Rahim’s shortcomings as a wicket keeper. We all know that. It is nothing new . I am trying to suggest a solution.
The solution is very simple .
We all know two Great Wicketkeeper Batsmen of the Subcontinent – Syed Ali Kirmani ( India ) and Rashed Latif (Pakistan).
We need to Hire one of these guys on an Ad hoc basis may be 1-2 months to fine tune the wicket keeping skills of Rahim and other Upcoming ones like Mithun Ali and others.
Just for record the great Kirmani in a recent cricket function in India said that the present Indian Captain Dhoni was flawed so far wicket keeping is concerned though he is a master leader and was instrumental in bring India within the top three Cricket nations of the world . When asked by a Reporter what flaws he noticed in Dhoni ‘s wicket keeping he said that it cannot be sorted now as he is in a matured stage. What I am trying to say is that the flaws of Rahim and upcoming wicketkeepers ( I am sure there will be many) needs to be addressed and fixed now as they are in the formative stage before it is too late.
In conclusion Rahim’s job as a key member of the team a team is 50% job done. No worries about his batting skills and abilities. He is a proven customer on this aspect
His wicket keeping – worrying for Team, Fans and the Nation. Also he is a potential captain being an Active member of 5 Musketeers run leadership we have. Unless he improves his wicket keeping skills he will eventually lose his spot and also deprive the nation of a potential future captain.
So BCB please consider hiring Kirmani or Rashid latif to hone skills of Rahim and upcoming wicket keepers in the better interest of Tigers, Cricket fans and nation.

Rahim iso our best test batsman. So it would be fantastic if his keeping skills improved. I agree with the hiring the two keeper batsmen. That would be great. And we shouldnt replace him with anybody either in the recent future. At least not for ODI or Test. If Dhiman was here, would've been different but...

Now this is what i dont understand. I hear people pump up his supposed batting skills all the time. He's average at best and is certainly not even close to our best test batsmen. In fact, he may just be our worst.
I'm interested to hear why you believe he's our best though. Maybe you know something the rest of us dont. Because all i see is a batsman with an average of 21 and no hundreds...The sad part? He averages even lower in ODI's (somewhere in the mid teens last i checked). Thats tailender category. The funny part? Brett Lee's batting stats are nearly identical.
I just dont understand why they give him so many chances. It drives me crazy! Is it because of his babyface? Maybe remind the selectors of their children?

farhad bhai how about taking a look at some of his recent test innings...and compare them with the rest of our top order batsman in those matches
i'm not saying he is our best batsman..but in the last few series he has shown improvement and consistency..i believe he should play as a specialist batsman only in test

Welcome back ehtesham.
I don't think hiring a specialized coach for one player only is going to be the solution. Think of the financial aspects, it's folly. It'd be better if BCB arranges a sort of conditioning camp for all the premiere wicketkeepers with one of the mentioned names being the coach. That way all our keepers learn something.
I remember Pilot said (In one of his interviews) how helpful it is to compare techniques and tips with other keepers. Till date there's no rule book of wicketkeeping and everybody has to develop there own skill.I don't think a full time coach will be that much effective for a keeper. If Rahim needs help(as he evidently does) what's stopping him from going to pilot? Pilot's our best keeper and not too much behind the worldclass either. He can help Rahim become a better keeper.

Hello Siraji,
Thanks for welcoming and your inputs.
If you closely read my post I did mention that the coaching would not only inlcude Rahim but also Mithun and upcoming wicketkeepers as well. So you idea is pretty much in line with my thinking. Also I have suggested that the Hiring of Wicket Keeping Consulatant would be on an ad hoc basis say a 1 to 2 month and not as a full time coach.
You are abosutely right when you say why not go to Pilot who was also a highly rated Wicketkeeper Batsman. But I guess BCB won't like the idea of Rahim doing that as you can perceive from the shoddy treatment he got from them with regards to his farewell when he has given so much to Bangladesh Cricket ( I wonder how can one be so ungrateful)

I'll give you that. His recent test stats have been impressive relative to his previous performances, but going from that to calling him our best test batsman is a bit of a leap IMO...

Hiring pakis as coaches was the first disaster in our short history of cricket. Tweedle dee and tweedle dumb put our cricket development behind by 10 years.
Hiring cheating, lying Rashid Latif is completely out of question. Cheaters are not great, they are not even good. Our Rahim is a better sportsman than Rashid will ever be.
Never again.

Wrong info there ehteshamul.
Pilot was given a hero's farewell, at the SBNS, at the beginning of an international event. It was very nice. There was no hard feelings. Pilot is still very close to BCB. He is working on his own pet project - an academy of his own.

We need good slips as well... and good running for the wickets. Hey let's get Inzamam! He'll improve our running between the wickets!

Hello Billah Bhaiyya,
By farewell I meant a farewell match in his honor either One day or Test match.
That would be befitting to a man who has contributed so much to our cricket. it never happened.
A farewell match is a proper way to show respect and honor to any sports person anywhere in the world . If it had happened it would have made everyone of us including Pilot very happy.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Hello Billah Bhaiyya,
I understand your sentiment and no doubt a genunine one . Well I had 2 names proposed as wicketkeeping Consultants - Syed Ali Kirmani and Rashed Latif.
Qualitywise Syed Ali Kirmani is far better than Rashed Latif.
I hope you don't not have objection with Kirmani.
Cheers!

THANKS EVERYONE!
Thanks everyone for their valuable inputs and interactions which is what the forum is about.
Here some highlights of great fighting knocks of Rahim which deserves special mention here.
First Test, Bangladesh vs South Africa at Three Ws Oval, Nov 2008.
Mushfiq’s contribution: A Fighting 48 of 63 balls with 9 fours out of team total 153 in the first innings.
The next highest was Kazi Shahadat Hossain with 23.
Second Test, Bangladesh Vs South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion, Nov 2008.
Mushfiq’s contribution: A Fighting 65 of 86 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes out of team total 250 in the first innings.
He was the second highest scorer after Zunaed Siddique who top scored with 67.
First Test,Bangladesh Vs New Zealand AT BSSRAS, Oct 2008.
Mushfiq’s contribution: A Brave and outstanding 79 of 210 balls with 12 fours and I six out of team total 245 in the first innings.
He was the second highest scorer after Mehrab Hossain jr who top scored with 83.
First Test, Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh SBNS, Dec 2008.
Mushfiq’s contribution a fighting knock of 61 of 111 balls with 7 fours out of team total 413 in the second innings.
He was the third highest scorer after Ashraful who top scored with 101 followed by Shakib 96.
So the aforementioned knocks clearly confirms Rahim as a one of the best reliable middle order batsman Tigers have.
He is a Great Fighter – a Grafter , Can stay at the wicket for long periods and build an innings.
As rightly pointed out by Bangladesh_sy Bhaiyya he can purely play for Tigers as a specialist batsman.
But as I said if we help him to hone his wicket keeping skills with a Specialist coach and with his good leading capabilities(He has lead BD under 19 to fifth position in the Youth World Cup held in February 206) he will be a force to reckon with in the near future.
Let us all help him to achieve that.

I dont see the harm of hiring a specialist wicket keeping coach. Big football teams have their own keeping coach, so why not with cricket?
And as far as mushfiq's batting is concerned, i think he is technically and mentally one of the strongest batsman in our team. I think he can be in the team as a specialist batsman alone. But if he has to survive in the team as a keeper/batsman, his keeping skills need to improved, i know people make mistakes, but a keepers mistakes must be minimized. Its a great idea of hiring a keeping coach, hope BCB hires someone, even for short term [1-2 months, during off season]

Pause…
PAUSE…
Despite good responses from readers on this thread the Rating displays monstrous look.
I do not dwell or entertain any negativity in any form of life. This is no exception.
So time for PAUSE

Ehteshamul bhai, when will the pause be over? Please put it on play so that I can finish reading this thread. Right now my brain is getting stuck after the first line of the first post.

I wonder, why would one capitalize PAUSE? Is it meant to be loud pause? Or dramatize it?

I don't get this guy ehtesham. He knows what will be general reaction to his posts and if he hates negative feedback, why bother coming back? Has he challenged himself that oneday he'll win BC over? Weird.

Dude......seriously...just because someone does not agree with you does not mean he should go away....
I am truly ashamed for some of you that rated a good quality thread negatively and i like to apologize for my fellow members' immaturity
ehtesham has said a few valid points and he has taken the time to discuss an important aspect that a lot of us have been ignoring for quite some time.
Lets first acknowledge that there is a problem and we have not dealt with our seniors in the most respectful ways in the past....
When an Indian veteran, Australian or Pakistani veteran players bows out, the whole stadium gives him his last standing ovation....
When a Bangladeshi veteran steps out...well we never know...they are just stabbed on the way out of the pavilion really...
