Looks like Mr Hathuri can spot a talent seeing anyone in practice. Shabbir was pushed by him, Likhon was pushed by him after seeing him when he was called for practice bowling against tigers. Likhon was even wanted by Mr Hathuri for the last WI series. Selectors wanted to wait. He probably did the talent picking the same way in SL.

If soumya is so talented and being picked for being a bowler who can bat then how come he hasn't been more talked about as a bowler? Clutching at straws to get a pace all rounder. Soumya is a batsman who then became a part time bowler and now is becoming a more regular bowler. Look at his record, 18 wickets from 32 FC matches, 9 wickets from 24 list As, 2 wickets from 17 t20s, this is not someone who should be picked based on bowling, even his batting he averages 27.5 in FC cricket, 23.8 in list As and 17 in t20s.

Picking on talent is one thing but only if they shown at least some sort of consistency and not before the performing players. Also bringing in a young player who barely plays the role he's selected for just before the WC in hope he's the answer in the WC in foreign conditions in Australia is just strange selection.

I hope soumya can pull it off, it's a lot to expect from him.

We need a pace bowling all rounder. Not only for the WC vut also for our cricket team.it ll give us more options and completeness.

Abull and Mash can hit the ball occasionally but they are not genuine all rounder. Farhad and Hulk are below par and failed repeatedly. Not sure about S Sarker. Do we have any genuine all rounder in our local team ?

I'm not saying a pace all rounder won't. Benefit the team but if you don't have one there is no point of picking a below par one the try and fill the gap, develop them properly, bringing in soumya as an all rounder now isn't really the time, he needs more time to develop. He's only bowled 54 overs in list As from 24 matches, that's less than 3 overs per match in average, ok he's only bowled in 16 innings but that's still less than 4 overs on average.

I be never seen soumya bowl, but I reckon if he was such a bowling talent we'd have been talking about him a lot on here...we most talk of him as a batsman though and even in hat regard mainly as a future prospect if he can get his consistency tiger rather than a current prospect.

Hopefully he can perform in this match and handle the expectation that's put on him if he's picked for the WC.
