Default NCL 2016

Our domestic season is scheduled to start with NCL on Sep 25.

Khulna picked a killer squad. However, 8 of their players are unavailable due to national duty (plus Fizz out with injury).

Looking forward to see another good season from new sensation Mahedi Hasan (not Miraz, but the opening batsman).

A busy season is coming up for Bangladeshi cricketers, both at international and domestic stages. I hope our fringe players will use this opportunity to raise their hands up, both for a chance in the national team and also for a lucrative offer in BPL.

Quote:
Following the home series’ against Afghanistan and England, Bangladesh cricketers will get down to business in the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20, which precedes the tour of New Zealand.

After returning home, the Tigers will barely get the time to rest as they will fly off to India for the lone Test match in February next year.

The Tigers are also likely to visit Sri Lanka before heading off to Ireland in May for a 50-over tri-nation series against Ireland and New Zealand. They will then leave for England for the Champions Trophy.

Following the eight-nation tournament, Bangladesh will host Pakistan for a full series before flying off to Australia in what will be their first tour down under since 2008.

Rajshahi, Rangpur target promotion in NCL

Quote:
Rajshahi
Perhaps the most sincere side in the NCL, Rajshahi had a disappointing finish last year. They won two matches to go level with Barisal in tier two but the latter were promoted to tier one, courtesy a better points finish.

Rajshahi are blessed to have a sound cricket infrastructure that not only ensures that their divisional cricketers are on track but also produces cricketers for mainstream cricket.

With the presence of experienced campaigners like batsman Jahurul Islam and all-rounder Farhad Reza, the side are looking forward to living up to their reputation this year. The players are aware that they have not given their best in the last two seasons so there is enough will in the dressing room now to return to the glory days of the past. Considering the youngsters in the team, the side are expecting Nazmul Hossain Shanto to deliver. At the same time, they will also place high expectations upon the 31-year-old right-arm pacer Abdullah al Mamun.

Rangpur
Rangpur finished last in tier one in the 2015-16 edition of the tournament to emerge as the first team to get demoted to the second tier. The side, filled with cricketers who have a lot of experience, had a disastrous season last time around, losing two matches and drawing four. The side feature renowned names like Naeem Islam, Dhiman Ghosh and Sohrawardi Shuvo.

This year’s preparation has been minimal as until yesterday the side had failed to group up. According to team members, many are undergoing personal training while there are a few who have practised in a group. They will begin the season against Chittagong in Khulna with only one target in mind – to stay at the summit of tier two and achieve promotion.

Green-tops wanted for NCL

Quote:
Once again the selectors asked for green-top pitches for the four-day National Cricket League (NCL), which will start from September 25.

Although their track record of keeping this promise is not encouraging, Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB's) director and tournament committee chairman Saiful Islam Swapan said yesterday that they have prepared bouncy tracks in all four venues in Bogra, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet as per the selectors' desire.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin was also hopeful this time. “We were asking for green-top pitches as we have the New Zealand tour after the two home series against Afghanistan and England. I am hopeful this time the matches will be played on pitches prepared as per our desire.”

Selector Habibul Bashar echoed the sentiment. “The NCL is going to take place on fresh pitches as the season will start with this first-class tournament. And there is a three-day gap between matches, so we can hope for the best. I think the national players will be benefited if they can play some matches on green pitches ahead of the New Zealand tour.”

Swapan informed that they have decided to increase the match fee of the players from Tk 21,000 to Tk 25,000 this year.

Shanto (Rajshahi) gone early too. Is not Abu Jayed one of the better swing bowlers we have?

Maybe this new cat will be ready for the tour to NZ or at the latest our home season in 2017.

Cricinfo says Ebadat is 22 yo...I thought he was 25, 26...good to see he's young. Can build his pace and also has time on his hands.

Chittagong handed debut to 18 years old Hossain Ali - another exciting pace prospect to watch out for (too bad he won't be eligible for next U/19 WC).

That's the other debutante pacer -Yasir Arafat Mishu. He is not even 18 yet (birthday coming up in 9 days). Yeah, definitely one to keep an eye on.

He should be eligible for next U/19 WC.

Liton Das injures shoulder in NCL match
Quote:
Liton Das has injured his right shoulder during Rangpur Division's National Cricket League match against Chittagong Division in Sylhet. He sustained the injury on the first day of the first-class season when he dived awkwardly during Chittagong's first innings an did not bat for Rangpur after that. He returned to Dhaka the following day.

He is likely to be part of Bangladesh's Test squad against England but if the injury is serious, it could put him in doubt for a timely recovery. BCB's chief physician Debashish Chowdhury said they were maintaining conservative treatment on Liton's shoulder and an MRI scan on Wednesday would reveal how long he could be sidelined for.

"For now the treatment is conservative but an MRI scan could reveal if he has hurt his AC joint. If it is just a sprain, we can expect a recovery within a week," Chowdhury said.

Liton has so far played three Tests, nine ODIs and three T20s for Bangladesh.

That is not tall (6'3" on up is) but its always good to have quicks at the 6' mark. Taskin, Mustafiz fit the bill, fortunatley.

Did Ali take a fiver on FC debut? Cricinfo showed him taking 0 for 29???

Thats impressive on our dead tracks for a 17 yo. I'm sure he's bowling at least 125-130. Impressive height for a kid that age, although Taskin was as tall at the same stage.

Hossain Ali is also apparently tall and quick.

Sohag Gazi scored 142 against Dhaka metropolis, on the other hand Mohammad Ashraful took 4 wickets bowling 21 overs with an economy rate of just 2.95.
