Some good comments from Faruque
faruque
Here is some highlight:
• NCL would struggle to pick up as a prestigious first class competition unless the financial package for players improved
• It was not a good practice to rely on the under-19 squad for back-up players all the time.National League could become the best platform for talent to flourish.
• The participation of the top cricketers of the country in the NCL has to be ensured to inspire the youngsters and to lift the image of the competition.
• The chief selector was happy with the quality of pitches this season (NCL) but said that a lot of work still needed to be done.
• Selectors will consider National League's performance when they select the A team for the important tour of England in July. However one season is not a convincing enough reason to call someone to the senior team.
• He pointed out four players for their good performance: Golam Rahman, Forhad Reza,Nazimuddin and Alok Kapali

WHAT?
Alok Kapali?
How about Hasanuzzaman? Alamgir Kabir? Mehrab Opi? I could name atleast 25 more before Alok comes in the radar screen.
I think Alok is using Azmeri Baba. Alok's brothers live in London, you know.

hehe...and the only reason he stayed back was cricket.
yes, i don't think alok deserves to be named as one of the top four performers in the league.

Faruq said he is happy with quality of pitches.
Out of thirty 4day matches, 16 were drawn. This season 39 centuries are scored. Four players scored more than seven hundreds runs, when only two person scored six hundreds plus runs last season playing same number of games.
Pitches don't seem to be sporting at all.

hard to believe sanwar represented our team on the tour to australia. Now he's a steward. Anyway, everyone has to earn money in some way.

our players will love one of their old team-mate's company while travelling, so it's a good thing

selectors love with alok kapali needs to stop. what was so good about his performance this year in NCL. he had 2/3 good games. former national team player musfiqur rahman also had few good games in NCL but that doesnt mean he should play in the senior team. kapali and musfuqur should play in the a-team. golam rahman and farhad reza also doing great job. another guy is shamsu rahman. he has been performing well for the u-19 team for awhile now. i would like to see him in the a-team. for england i would like to see enamul haque jr in the a-team too. because this guy can be our best spinner in the future so we should give him as much practice as we can. beside enamul i want to see few national team players in the a-team tour to england in july.

yeah even hasibul hossain and the left medium fast boler manjurul islam did good in the NCL. but that really doesnt meant that they have to be in the A team too. i think it is going to be a hard task for BCB to choose this team. because they have to pick players from the NCL league and also from the U19 team and probably players from the current national team who will fail to prove themselves. hopefully everyone will be able to prove themselves.

I like his comment about the need for a buffer zone between the national team and the A team. That is the way to go. We had to dip into the U-19 pool too early beacuse of the lack of players in the domestic arena, the buffer players, so to speak. U-19's should make way to the A team and from their they can come to the national team, with a few special exceptions off course. Now that we have NCL up and running, we will be able to stick to this policy of "natural progression" without much circumnavigation or leap-frogging. I think, we will realize truely in the future the impact of McIness that he is leaving behind. He has instilled fundamentals, ethics of hard work to the very impressionable teen-aged players at a time when they are very coachable. With that background, they will make fine A-teamers first then to the national team in due time. I just hope that our future coach in that level, whomever the BCB picks, is able to continue on the fine journey that McIness had initiated. Deviating from that process will be unacceptable.

I have now read that paragraph thrice and I still can't see where he named Kapali as one of the top four performers in the league! He said he was delighted with the performances of Golam Rahman and Farhad Reza and said that talented players like Kapali and Nazim got their rhythm back. Now saying that a couple of players got their rhythm back isn't saying, they were among the top four performers in the league, or does it? He didn't even put the four of them in the same category!
Kapali had another highly disappointing season with the bat but ended up being the fifth highest wicket-taker this season. After a few good performances with the bat, I wanted him to put in a strong finish, but he ended up with a few more disappointing performances in the last two games. Sylhet had a strange couple of games in the 9th and 10th round. In both, they scored a lot of runs in the first innings and took a first innings lead, only to put up pathetic scores in the second innings to lose both matches. At one point, it seemed likely that they might be fourth this season, but ended up last. Idiots!!

Usually, our domestic cricket's pitches are of poor quality and standard (very low bounce, turning, unplayable wickets - where normal bowlers seem to be like extraordinary bowlers), where low totals and low individual scores are a general trend. In that respect, the pitches have become a bit better than last few years' and which is why there are so many centuries and so many big totals.
