It is truly mind-blowing how Alok did not get selected for the 3 tests.The more I look at his NCL results the more I am amazed.We desparately need performing all-rounders.If he was at Lanka now we wouldn't need to play a specialist spinner.He has proven his class in the international arena before.Moreover, if he still doesn'tget picked after such a superb NCL,he ,and players like him, might soon quit cricket and go Canada or wherever they can go.It's important to reward good performances

Alok Kapali is not one of my "favorite" players BTW. It is his raw talent and the merit of his recent performance in the NCL that make me passionate about his selection, or lack there of, into the National team. He was dropped due to a string of failures while many others were not due to theirs, and he has aptly demonstrated an ability to learn by putting together remarkable performances - most of which I have been fortunate enough to witness first-hand - in the only domestic first class cricket we have available. My alleged bias has nothing to do with it. Those who unreasonably question my sense of fairness should take a good look at their own.

My favorite active players, for the record, are (in order):

1. Mashrafe Bin Murtaza
2. Md. Ashraful Matin
3. Shakib Al Hasan
4. Ricky Thomas Ponting

Mushy and Tamim will get there soon enough.

A leadership is a rare quality that few of our players have at current squad. I don't doubt Ashraful's ability but he needs to develop still, Mashrafee might have but not sure he might be struggling for health reason.
Though offtopic but I also agree with Sohenl_NR that we should sent the recent performers like Alok,Sezan (old rejects from national team) along with the new ones more often to the A team. Our A team needs to play more matches. I am so surprised that they are not touring recently. Could be monetary issue, but to sustain the infrastructure and maintain cricket standard, we need to send both our national and A team to practice more often. As I am looking towards WC 2011, we can only know who will be drafted to our depleted national team from the top A team performer, if we can make these A team players play more and perform.

I have had this discussion with Sohel bhai in another thread too. In that hread itself I conceeded that Alok's performance in 2007 domestic league has been spectacular. That being said I had alos mentioned that I am still not convinced by him. Maybe the string of failures in the past and the kind of chances he got on the trot despite those regular failures have made me biased against him. I think Alok needs to play in the A team, perform consistently in that level against the other test playing nations before any thought of a recall can be entertained. Performance in our domestic structure should not result in elevation to the national team because of the obvious quality of cricket at the domestic level. As an example someone like Faisal Hossain scores pretty well in the domestic league and he has one of the worst techniques for a player to represent Bangladesh yet. Performance in leagues should result in a call up in the A team. However there are some who perform in the A team but still choke when given a chance for the national side( ie Tusar imran) but I am willing to give Alok the benefit of the doubt only after he performs this well for the A team.

Not only Alok but a few other national team discards need to be called up to the A team too. Unfortunately, our selectors don't realize this, and are happy injecting fresh blood at all times in all levels.
